I think PH Locksmith is turning into A Core locksmith. This is what a friend told me. Correct me if I am wrong. The phone number and address have been transferred to the new owner. My review is for A Core. I needed two backdoor locks replaced. I called on a Thursday and made an appt for Early Monday morning because we were on Spring Break. Joe was the technician that did our locksmith. A very polite guy, showed up on time. My husband wanted the inner door locks changed as well as they were super old. So we ended up having 4 locks replaced. I thought the price was reasonable. I didn't want to pay to replace doors. That can wait. I was very happy with A Core and will be calling them again. read more

I use a lockbox to leave my electronic key fob and gate key for my dog walker. The box would not open with the keys inside even though three people tried multiple times. I figured I needed a locksmith to get it open. I called PHS and talked to the locksmith. He told me to use a mallet and tap on the box on all sides to dislodge the stuck keys. He said that is what he would do if he came out and if it didn't work he could open the box but it would destroy it. He said try the mallet first otherwise if he comes out he will charge $115. I used a hammer (no mallet available) and did what he said and sure enough I was able to get the box open. This was an incredibly kind thing to do and it shows they are really about customer service, not just making money. If I ever need a locksmith, I will be sure to call PHS. read more

My doors open like silk. Until now, I never realized how much my quality of life was being impacted by sticky locks. How many times have I apologized about my "touchy" lock? How many times have I explained to someone about how it needs to be "finessed"? And how many times, when there was no one to apologize or explain to, have I sighed and struggled, or how many more times, not even that... just silently accepted that this was my lot in life. Of course my life was impacted by this! I did this every day of my adult life! I accepted this subtle but constant tyranny without question... with only occasional passive-aggressive complaints. Here's my excuse. I didn't know better. I didn't know how much happier I would be without this incessant reminder that I wasn't worthy--a reprimand in the form of a deserved daily suffering. Then, Joe came, and rekeyed my new house... which is an old house with crazy, old locks. He made it so I only needed one key for all the locks--no longer do I need to carry around a pound of metal. Then he made it so a key did what it was supposed to. Nothing extra. It doesn't cook dinner or clean the house. It just opens the doors. Yet, it was magical. A whole new world opened up for me because I now have the energy I used to be wasting on fighting with my door every day. In fact, here I am, apparently starting to write a novel. The title is, "The Locksmith." You should definitely get it when it comes out. New York Time Book Review will gush and say, "the most non-magical magical realism story of its time." My buttery locks made me think--what other indignities have I allowed in my life because I didn't think to question it? And if I addressed them, how much more productive will I be? Even if you don't need new keys, call PHS if you find yourself in a rut, or feel like there's something out there waiting for you, but you just don't know what. They will change your life. read more

We thought we had a problem with a lock, but it turned out it was that the door was misaligned. Showed us how to correct that with a few turns of a screw on the doorframe hinge. BIZARRE! This company is located in Oak Park. They've been around long enough to know the drill. But the woman who answered the phone started complaining that they would not be able to make an appointment with me unless I could guarantee that there would be street parking near my place. I explained that there were places to park, but as any Oak Parker knows, the approved spaces change by day part, and you have to pay attention to the signs, and place your car in the parts of the block that allow parking during that time of day. She did not accept this, and went on to say that she could not commit to making an appointment because I was unable to tell her what parking would be available on a particular day later in the week. Way to kill business! I actually wound up booking a competitor of theirs, who had no such qualms. read more

Hired them when the key broke off in my double security floor safe. (You unlock the combination lock with a key.) They had the broken key piece extracted, and the lock tumbler repaired on site in just under 30 minutes. :) I highly recommend them. read more

Really nice place. They do more than just get you back inside when you lose your keys. They have all sorts of doorknobs and locks. They give lots of good advice on DIY installation. they helped me rekey my locks so that I can use the same key for many doors. They have an array of skeleton keys, and they sold me a few so I could open a china cabinet I got from Gramma, and then I returned the ones that didn't work. They sold this neat plastic template guide to drill out the holes to install a door lock, though at a higher price than the same one at Dressel's. They have two sweet dogs behind the counter. Everyone I've talked to here has been really helpful and friendly and you can just chat with them. I will be using these guys for all my dook/lock/key needs. read more

We have a warped front door and a back door with hinge issues. Joe was great about communicating the challenges that went with adding locks to these doors and explained all the options available to me. He was able to get one door done and the new lock works perfectly (despite the problematic door) and is now super secure. One door will require some handyman repairs. With a cheap lock on a side door, a broken lock on the garage and an old mortis lock on the front door with a different key, it seemed to be time to replace all of these with a set of matched locks. When i first planned this i thought it was going to be difficult and maybe require a lot of back and forth with a locksmith, but after 10 minutes in PHS, they explained exactly what i needed to do and i had a new set of locks in my hand that afternoon. I called them on Thursday at the end of the day and they were able to come fix a broken lock on Friday. It was not an emergency but it sounded like if it was they would've been able to come Thursday evening. Felipe was who I spoke with and who I sent pictures via text back and forth with and he was great. I appreciate his urgency. Just moved in to a new home in Berwyn, and needed rekeying all my doors. I called and from the initial call everyone was very professional. I schedulled an appointment for service and the technician arrived exactly on the time scheduled. He was very professional and proficient with his work. I called and provided information on what services I was look for with the receptionist/someone in the store, then spoke directly to Joe, and texted him pictures of the problem/issue needing to be resolved so he had a heads up in what could be the best solution. Fil was just fantastic. He installed two smart locks in my condo. We started with a consult and he was able to tell me that the locks I was looking at would work - my doors have some unique characteristics, which he was able to thoroughly walk me through - and provided a quote the next day.
