From the moment we walked in, Pasquale and his colleague made us feel welcome and walked us patiently through his favorite menu choices. After being on the road for a couple of weeks in chain eateries and locals, it was lovely to be looked after by a pro. The food is delicious with fresh ingredients and long standing recipes. This establishment has hospitality mastered after 45 years of experience. We had the Stracciatella Romano and Italian salad, followed by a three meatball appetizer, for a light dinner. All delicious. We found La Guardia by accident. We had just crossed the border and found the closest place to eat that looked good. Luck was on our side! La Guardia was delicious from start to finish. Our party of 5 over-ordered and we delighted in sharing appetizers and entrees. Mine was the Tortellini La Guardia and it was spectacular! The best part was the service we received from the staff. Danielle was the greatest server - very personable, professional and she knew the menu backwards and forwards, which I love! Danielle and the other waitress (didn't get her name but she's in my photo) really cared about our experience. We enjoyed their conversation and we felt appreciated for being there. there are few restaurants that I wish I could give 6 stars -- this is one of them. Oh. My. God. The best dining experience I've had in a long time. The food was amazing. I went with a group of 3 girls and all of us were able to get exactly what we wanted, accommodating allergies and special preferences. Melt in your mouth chicken, perfectly crafted pasta, and oh my god did I talk about the bruschetta? You have to go there just for it. Cocktails and recommended wine pairings were beautiful. I got the very berry cosmo and it was so smooth and delicious, a must have. On top of everything, the part that took our experience from great to amazing was the service. Danielle was our server and she was so great at making a connection with us and ensuring our needs were taken care of. At one point, she could see we were having a moderately serious conversation and so she waited until we were done to check back. As well, our waters were never empty and we were always taken care of. Wholeheartedly, it was amazing. The manager also checked in and was super helpful. I LOVED it here (and regret not taking pictures) - guess that just means I'll have to go back and take them! This was an accidental discovery thanks to Groupon, and I'm glad we found it. I love the decor, it really looks like the scenes of the Italian countryside that you see in movies (since I've never been to Italy myself). The bread at the beginning of the meal wasn't just your standard fresh baked bread, it was a half loaf of very well seasoned bruschetta, with slices of tomatoes topping each wedge. The calamari was great, they were very tender. I had the Vitello alla Pizzaiola. The veal was perfectly cooked, and I thought the sauce was great, it was much more flavorful than your standard marinara sauce. I also had the creme brulee, and I thought it was a lovely dessert. The lovely layer of burnt sugar was what made the dessert extra special. I do have several complaints. First of all, I didn't know there was going to be a Rehearsal Dinner crowd that took up more than half the restaurant, making the wait extend from what could've been 5 to 10 minutes to almost an hour. It was partly my fault because I didn't bother to call for reservations. Secondly, the parking situation around the restaurant was atrocious. I suppose that was due to the large party as well. Lastly, despite the good service, they gave me someone else's leftovers. So, I was pretty disappointed when I got home and found something other than my Vitello alla Pizzaiola in the takeout box. :-( Will I go back? I honestly don't know. It's not even because of my particular experience. It has something to do with the fee of $4.75/$4.50 to go to and from the tunnel and that I can get Italian food that's even better at Moro's in Allen Park, 10 minutes away from my house. read more

Came here with my boyfriend with a groupon we bought. It's tucked away on Pitt in downtown Windsor. Walked out from Caesars casino, which was a nice 7 minute walk. Made reservations on a Saturday night as it was packed. It's nicely decorated with walls decors, nice black table cloths. Ordered a vegetarian pizza and chicken breast with mushroom and balsamic infused sauce. It was with complementary bread with topped with tomato and brushed with some herbs. It was fresh and hot out of the oven. The pizza had lots of toppings, cheesy, and had about 8 slices. The chicken breast was moist and the balsamic reduction had a nice sour kick to the dish. Got a creme Brulee for dessert. This was a little disappointing. I think there were too many egg yolks because it wasn't creamy in the middle, it was pretty stiff in the middle. The service was good, and they refilled my water 2 times and cleared out the dishes soon after we were done. I did find that it was really noisy in the restaurant though, seems like the sound just bounces off the walls and echoes. read more

My history with this place traces back to 1984. And for years they cooked, I ate and paid. Although it's changed from nicely appointed and romantic 85'ish period to now. The food was pretty well on-par with what you expected to get. Flash forward to 2018-19? Run... just run away. There is a perfectly great steak waiting for you just 1 block away at The Keg. I know... you feel/felt like Italian tonight. Just let it go and have that meat instead. Too pricey for the gamble that may hit your plate. I chose this restaurant based on positive reviews and the proximity to Windsor Coliseum. Overall, very disappointing. Bruschetta was good but salty. Calamari was overbreaded and tasteless. I ordered the house Pinot Grigio which was excellent so I asked for another to go with my entree. My date ordered the pesto gnocchi and I ordered the fish of the day, ahi tuna. He ordered a half salad as my entree came with a salad. The entrees arrived and I inquired a second time about my wine and the salads. The waiter apologized and we started dinner. The tuna was excellent but very large. Should have shared, especially since it was $40. Served with over cooked rice and beans. Gnocchi was over cooked as well. Almost finished with my dinner and once again asked for my wine. Waiter finally brought soggy salads and my wine with the offer of a free dessert. We declined. Will not go back read more

I was staying at a hotel nearby and was taking some clients out for dinner so I decided to run to Yelp to figure out where I should go. Since i was buying, I of course choose italian because it's my favourite and you cant really go wrong. I chose La Gaurdia because the reviews were great and it was super close to where we are located. It was about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Upon arrival we were all fairly impressed by how nice it was. I wasnt able to view the menu online (it said "under construction") so I wasnt sure how expensive it was. The decor was beautiful and I really liked the feel. There was a large group of women seated in the middle which made for a bit of a louder environment but it wasnt bothersome. We enjoyed some beers on tap (Stella, Keiths, Bud Light), and received our pre-dinner bread which was actually a make-shift bruschetta which was really fantastic. Just some bread with garlic, a slice of fresh tomato, and topped with dried basil and oregano. I'm not a fresh tomato kind of girl but I loved it! It was free too which made it even better. We ordered the tortellini, the manicotti, and the filet mignon and we all really enjoyed our meals. The pastas were less than $20 each and the filet was $34. Fairly standard for a higher end italian restaurant. The service here was quite good but it was a tiny-bit slow at times. The group of women at the other table had some jokes with another patron, which then we got roped into it, so it was pretty entertaining overall. La Guardia offers a good relaxed atmosphere without being overly casual. This would be a great date spot or a nice place to bring some family members for a great meal. Suggestions to call ahead for reservations are well merited... there was definitely a wait. The appetizers (bruschetta, free with the meal, and calamari) were both fantastic. Went to LaGuardia for lunch before a 2 PM meeting with bank representative in order to use an expired Groupon. They were very accommodating about letting me use the Groupon but sadly the lunch menu does not compare well to what we had for dinner theire over a year ago. I tried the veal parmesan special and my wife had the italian meatball sandwich. The veal parmesan had been sitting and was microwaved and thus dry and rather lacking in flavor. Wow what a classy place. 5 stars all around. I got the insalada caprese which was soooo good. A little bit different than I'm used to but so delicious. I also ordered the eggplant parm, and that too was different than the normal Italian restaurant which usually is heavily fried and breaded. This was very lightly breaded and a much thicker chunk of eggplant. It was delightfully fresh and light. I would also recommend the risotto del-mare. They pack it full of lots of shellfish! Update: based on the rude response from someone who has never eaten there calling me stupid and saying that I don't know what authentic Italian food is, I should mention that I lived there for a year and go back for a month every summer with my family so I know what "authentic Italian food" tastes like. If you're looking for authentic Italian food and good service this is NOT the place. We had a Groupon and it's the only reason we stayed after it took 15 minutes for our waiter to arrive after he took orders from tables that arrived after the two of us. Then the bread. We should have left after they gave us toast with miserable looking pink and refrigerated tomatoes sprinkled with dry oregano. We should have left after we spent 14 bucks for a plate with four olives, a slice of eggplant, a slice of zucchini, and some raw peppers. Instead we stayed for our mains and the saltimbocca my wife ordered could have attracted deer with how salty it was. I ordered veal parmigiana and the waiter let me eat most of it before he told me they accidentally gave me chicken. It was so salty and drenched in a garlic tomato sauce and terrible cheese that I didn't even notice. After waiting an excruciating long time to see our (way too young for a place like this) waiter the bill had veal parm instead of chicken parm, which of course costs more. My wife and I got married over the weekend and La Guardia catered our wedding reception. We absolutely loved the food served and so did all of our guest. Many people honestly said their meal was one of the best they've had at a wedding. From the moment we went to the restaurant to inquire about their catering service we had a pleasant experience. Joe, the chef who walked us through all of our meal plans for the evening, went above and beyond our expectations. He attentively answered all of our questions with great detail and made sure that our evening was perfect. Our entrée's for the evening were personally tailored to our needs from start to finish. We had the chance to taste our meal ahead of time to make sure we enjoyed what would be served. Dishes for the evening: - Bruschetta - Primerva Salad - Tortellini La Guardia - Veal La Guardia - Pollo Limone - Steamed vegetables Our meal was served buffet style prepared for 135 guest and arrived the day of our wedding fresh and ready to plate. The food did not waiver in flavour or quality from when we first sampled our main coarse weeks before. Portion sizes were also generous and the overall price was quite reasonable. We can't describe enough in length how incredible chef Joe was throughout our entire process. Our wedding would not have been as successful without his help. We called a few hours early to make reservations for 7:30pm. On the phone they confirmed our reservations. Upon arriving at 7:30 we were told it was going to be another 10-15 minutes. We told them we would walk around for 10 minutes and come back and we were told we would have a table waiting for us upon our return. 10 minutes later we returned and the table we were told was to be ready for us was taken by another couple. We were told that friends of the owner had arrived, and because they are given priority, they were given our table instead. Next we were told it would only be another 10 minutes for a new table so we waited. Almost an hour later we sat down (in hindsight it was a mistake to wait that long). The service was very slow and poor. We each ordered an appetizer and an entree and when we were only half way done our appetizers one waiter came and quickly took our plates away (we were obviously not done eating). This is by far the worst experience we have had eating out in Windsor. This place is unprofessional, sloppy, and discourteous. When we told the waiter about the very long wait even with reservations and the slow service we were only told "it was busy tonight". Not only will we never return but we will be sure to tell everyone we know to avoid this place like the plague. read more

You would think that ANY review, either positive or negative would be kept on the site so that the general public can make their own choice on whether to go or not go to the restaurant. Anyway, with regards to La Guardia....for the most part it's a great restaurant. But it sure gets noisy.....so don't expect a quiet fine dining experience!! A dress code might be nice....especially since they say it's fine Italian dining. When there are people in shorts....t-shirts and baseball hats in the restaurant....you pretty much know what you're in for; with regards to the atmosphere!!! STAY AWAY. This is not authentic Italian food; it was terrible. We dined here after purchasing a team buy style coupon, and thought it would make for a nice meal out. We were taken aback by the food and the yard sale decoration atmostphere. We ordered beef tips as our appetizer - they were covered in a beef broth that the restaurant called "roasted red pepper sauce" and were highly overcooked; had the broth not been there, they would not have been edible. The bread is brought to the table with a tomato slice on each piece; this was odd, because if you're going to put tomato on it, do it the way Italians do...with some basil or fresh mozerella with it. The seafood risotto was almost a soup - it was absolutely swimming in liquid, and the liquid tasted like what collects in the bottom of chowmein...a weird and salty chicken broth flavour. The shrimp had a highly discernable previously-frozen taste to it. The other entree ordered was lamp chops (two are served), and these were accompanied by potatos and vegetables that were just meh. Lesson learned - next time that we want Italian we will not stray from Erie Street. Nearest parking is garage at the corner of Pitt Street and Goyeau - was about $1 for an hour and a half. read more

I love this restaurant! Everyone in our party of 6 had a great meal. They start off your meal with their own version of bruschetta and let me tell you that bread is delicious! I had a tender and rich gnocchi in a pesto sauce that I would eat any day of the week. My sister tried everyone's meal and found them all to be delicious. They have a great selection of creative cocktails. and the wait staff is professional and attentive. If you want a great Italian meal you should try this place! We had such a beautiful evening! We did make reservations even though it was during the week and we were coming from the USA. we left in plenty of time as we did not know how the traffic would be. Well all went so smoothly we arrived much earlier. We were greeted very warmly and made to feel, no problem. A nice way to start! From there every thing went uphill. The service was really lovely. Our waiter Don was gracious and so very accommodating. All our food was really lovely. We dine out several times a week and my husband is 100% Italian and I cook 99% Italian at home. The food was excellent. They did have a Groupon which I am thankful for as it was a nice introduction. We will definitely be back soon. I can see why they are voted one of the best. I live in Toronto and have a few favourite Italian places there, but La Guardia is definitely in my top 5 Italian restaurants anywhere! The tomato bisque soup and gnocchi were excellent.
