LaHa is an Avon staple, it is the best Mexican food in the county I dare say. Huge portions, great service every time, and good food. I think this is my favorite restaurant between the one on West 38th Street because the staff displays more personality, promptness, and checks on their customers often. West 38th still has great food and good service and is still worth visiting. Don't write 38th St off as the differences are miute and depend on the servers' personality. It's just friendly servers that aren't as consistent as Avon. The menu has many of their own specials and worth trying. You'll find all the standard menu options as most Mexican restaurants. My husband loves the Steak ala Hacienda. It has many hot jalapenos which he loves. I do enjoy the chicken ala Hacienda, but you have to request it as the chicken is not on the menu. I have a tendency to lean toward the Chili Rellenos or enchiladas. The tacos are good here, too. Don't pass on dessert as the Flan is excellent. The restaurant has a large dining area with booths and tables. They can handle large groups easily. They is a bar with an additional dining area to the right when you enter. Just let the hostess know you're interested in the bar. In the evenings, especially, you'll find families and various groups having a great time. Sometimes, it's very loud with conversation and laughter. I love to be in a spot where folks are enjoying each other, plus having fun. This is La Hacienda. It's been a few years since I dined at La Hacienda. My daughter and I stopped in on our way home from Plainfield. I ordered the Arroz con pollo con blanco and my daughter ordered the burrito la hacienda. The food was well cooked and plentiful and came with chips and salsa. There was less salsa for the amount of chips they give but with that much food, I didn't even touch the chips and salsa. I will say their restaurant size is bigger than what it looks on the outside! Their margarita flavor options are pretty limited. They had strawberry or mango (that I saw anyways) . She asked if I wanted a large, and unknowingly I said "sure," to which someone at our table (thank goodness) asked the size. 42 Oz! I ended up ordering a 27 Oz medium. I think customers should be told this by the server, instead of just asking if the size is okay. I would've had to be wheelbarrowed out of there! The margarita itself was delicious. For my food, I ordered my usual Mexican dish which is enchiladas Mexicana. Theirs comes with chicken, beef, and beans, but I asked to replace the beef with cheese and they were accommodating. Unlike some mex places, they serve the mild salsa. I didn't have to ask for a milder salsa. The chips were plentiful and fresh. I ordered two cheese enchiladas with the rice and beans. The beans were very good as was the rice. The enchilada shells might have been a little tougher than usual but still very good. The entire order was not too spicy which is what I like. Service was fast with frequent check-ins. The restaurant is well decorated. They play authentic Mexican music. We probably visit this resturant at least once a week .the owners are amazing they treat everyone just like family. We go so much they almost know our kids and also our drink orders. I've been to several La Hacienda Mexican Restaurants across the city and this location seemed to be the same as the others. Great staff, quick service, clean space, and good food. I could tell this was a popular location because it opened at 11:00 am and it was packed with the lunch crowd around 11:30 AM. We were seated immediately and the hostess brought us a small wooden bowl filled with homemade salsa and tortilla chips. I only order water, but my friend ordered the Strawberry Margarita. As soon as it came, I wished I had ordered one too. The drink wasn't too strong and had a good balance of flavors. Our food came out within 10-15 min from ordering and it was hot and ready to enjoy. I had the lunch combo that included a Chicken Taco, Beef Enchilada, beans and rice for $5.95! The only thing I did not like was that my the chicken in the taco and beef was a little salty. But we were starving and heard great things about this place. This place is fairly large and can accommodate large parties of people. My friend ordered the arroz con pollo and I order the Hacienda Steak and Shrimp Special. The food arrived about 15 minutes later. You can tell each meal was made with fresh ingredients. this location is set back and doesn't look like much everyone knows those are the most spots! i had plans to try this place all week. it's pretty close to my new home so i figured i'd be making it a new regular as i love mexican food. no one was at the stand when we arrived but a woman came out asked how many and seated us right away. our server came out and took our drink orders. the restaurant was a little busy for lunch and loud! my mom and i decided on drinks and then looked over the menu while we munched on salsa and chips. the chips were warm and fresh. the salsa was good not very spicy. our server didn't speak to us much at all and never stated that he would return. we weren't checked on and i had to stop him when he sped by our table. my food was dry although it was suppose to be smothered in white cheese and the chicken inside was so overly cooked and crunchy that i was taking bites thinking it had bones in it. the chorizo on top was flavorful. my mom's sides that accompanied her dish were good but the meat did not taste or look appetizing. since we had never been here we had no clue that we needed to pay at the front and our server of course did not tell us he just dropped the bills and left. we spent unnecessary minutes sitting at the table waiting on him to return :/ i can't imagine coming back just for drinks because the service was bad. i feel awful that i brought my mom here on her trip onto town. read more
