I have only been there at random times during the day, and it is always surprisingly busy, neighborhood joggers/bikers stopping by to enjoy the view at the top. Or couples stopping by to enjoy a romantic moment. There is a nice view up top where there is incredibly limited parking (maybe 3-4 spots depending on how everyone parks). But it's best to go down the stairs to the rocks. It definitely feels like you can have a little mermaid moment at the tip of the rocks as the waves crash. You can walk left towards a very small beach, or enjoy exploring, depending on the tides. There is also incredible food along the pier and it is spacious which allows many people to walk, run, bike, skate, roller skate or do whatever you want! This location is great also because it has the most active lifeguards of all of the beaches. They patrol and guard the waters well. I have also seen them interact professionally with beach goers. There is a surfer's side on the right and a swimmer's side on the left when you walk down the ramp. The checkered flag marks the middle walkway to each side. There is a beach shower at the base of the ramp for washing off the salty water after having fun in it. There are many eateries, restaurants, grocery stores, apparel stores, and dessert places nearby within walking distance. The area is super lively and there are great vibes.

It was an 80 degree day and a Saturday, so was packed, but it still wasn't an issue to find ourselves a spot. It was hard to find a group that wasn't a family, which we welcomed seeing because we brought our 2 y/o with us. This beach is much more family friendly than some of the other area beaches. There's a paved ramp next to the bathrooms to walk down to the beach on, which was a nice surprise because we had the stroller and first thought we'd have to walk down some super steep steps. At the bottom of the ramp, they have 2 working showers to get the sand off. There were plenty of surfers and wake boarders here, but the waves were minimal, so it was mostly just a bunch of swimmers. This was our toddler's first time at the beach as a walker and he quickly warmed up it it and just wanted to sit in the low waves and slap at the water lol.

I am amazed at the Pacific Beach Rec Center based on comparison to other rec centers nearby. A few…read moreyears ago they used funds wisely (with community donations as well) to update the building, painting, and general improvements in a timely successful manner. It looks beautiful. They have a variety of programs that other recs centers nearby don't offer. Their basketball program draws from Pac. Beach, Mission Beach and La Jolla. It is well attended and standing room only during competitions. The Pacific Beach office staff (thanks Ms. Sandoval) is helpful, resourceful and goes out of the way to find solutions to questions and requests. Recently, I asked the La Jolla Rec Center employee about Spanish classes and the answer was nope don't have them - and the conversation ended. Ms. Sandoval said what a great idea - we don't have Spanish classes but should, and I'll talk to my supervision about making it happen if we can. This is how improvements in services happens.

We lucked up on Crystal Pier. My sweet baby's selection. More of a locals hangout. Parking is competitive and paid parking is a grip, but we had a beautiful time! The common theme among every person there was the pause to take it all in. Great vibe! Lots of restaurants. Great walking path up and down the beach. All kids of people. Dog walkers, surfers, people in the sand laying, playing volleyball, all kings of things. By the time the sun was ready to slip away, we were in the perfect spot at the end of the pier. We lucked out of the best weather imaginable. The lightest cool breeze, not overly humid and clear. What a special time!! Holding hands. Sweet kisses. I loved it. Romantic. Refreshing. Relaxing. All the things I love and a fantastic way to start our evening.
