    Law Street Beach

Law Street is a 5 Star LOCAL beach. Great place to spend the day surfing and hanging out or having a sunset bonfire. Locals only.

This beach is near and dear to my heart. We frequent here weekly. Beautiful sunsets are watched on the cliffs overlooking the beach. Great waves for novice to advanced surfers! The sand is soft, if you're there and it's hot the sand can burn the bottom of your feet so be sure to wear your sandals. The showers are nice, and the bathrooms located at the top of the hill are usually kept up okay. There have been times I didn't want to use a stall because of the cleanliness. Very close to down town PB. Parking is an issue, as there is no assigned parking lot for this particular beach, it's located in a neighborhood so you may have to park far depending on how busy if a day it is.

Law street Beach is Awesome! That being said, if you can find parking, walking up and down about 25 steps each way, and carrying your beach needs that far too! There's a loooong and wide cement path if that's easier, but it is steep. They have several restrooms, two outdoor sinks, Md a water fountain! The grassy area at the top is great for reading your favorite mag or book, then again if you can find parking. It's a Long Beach but entryways are a bit far apart. You can walk along a boardwalk and watch large numbers of surfers catching the waves!

LAW STREET is a particularly beautiful part of the Pacific Ocean, where the Pacific Ocean meets Japan, directly on the other side of the globe. Then the sun shines on Japan while we sleep. You can see the meeting of Pacific Beach and when you go farther North a few blocks, it turns slowly into La Jolla. I like Law Street because it's at a centrally located part of both towns, where you can look to the South, and see the beach rental cottages at the Crystal Pier, which rambles out over the ocean, and if you walk North toward La Jolla, you'll eventually be at The Cove. You also can walk South, all the way to Ocean Beach. The ramp there takes you down to the sand, where you can be with nature and the sea. The only drawback is that there is not much parking (maybe 7-8 spaces), not including street parking down Law Street. So if you have coolers, chairs, umbrellas, etc., it can be a challenge getting all your gear to the sand without a long walk. There is a tendency to see a lot of runners, swimmers, sunbathers, sungazers, and walkers at this beach. I've captured many photos from here. I've walked this entire stretch of beach, about 7 miles in one day. THE BEST PART IMHO? Law Street has an actual bathroom that's fairly large with 4 stalls... AND REAL TOILET SEATS!!! But don't sit on them! YOU HAVE TO - Always hover! Not like some along these paths, with no seat at all. And they have a filmy mirror, but not sure if it's full length. (I think it is.) It's also a good place to change into swimsuits cause it's REALLY LARGE, and clean enough to change in. Probably because there's a pricey high-rise hotel next door (actually there are several).

The beach at Law Street is one of my favorite locations to catch some sun and peaceful ocean vibes. There are bathrooms at street level and a few easy paths to walk down to the beach from here. Being north of the PB pier makes for a quieter, less crowded beach location to relax. You can people watch, catch some of the surf school participants, or just relax with friends. Of course on really hot days it will be busier, but generally speaking, I love this area due to great sand, low key locals, and beautiful ocean breezes to enjoy the afternoon.

Well I guess it's a decent beach for surf. Enough variety if you go north or south a few hundred yards if you don't like what's happening right in front of you. Usually what's happening is a pretty slow wave, usually 2-3 feet and if you can catch it in the morning during the offshore breeze, it can hold a decent shape. If you head south toward the pier (Diamond St area), you'll get a sometimes taller, and steeper wave that tends to close out in knee-high water. So if you're not paying attention you'll get dumped right onto the sand. There also is a high concentration of pier rats that think they own the water. Just keep a little north of the Crystal Pier and you should be able to avoid them. Go north and you'll find Tourmaline, more of a longboard beach because of the rocky bottom and small cove, which at its point can create a deeper primary break before you come back closer to the rocky shoreline. I've actually avoided this area for a couple years now, since the last time involved a sting ray and my foot. But overall it's a pretty mellow beach compared to those south of it. Why do I go here most of the time? Because it's close. Just a couple of blocks from my friend's house. Not need to drive to OB or Del Mar or La Jolla or anything else. Sure, it may not be as desirable as some of the other breaks, but can you really be unhappy with any day on the water? ...well, unless there's a shark involved, I suppose.

There is a beach shower at the base of the ramp for washing off the salty water after having fun in it.

Had to squeeze one last beach trip in before heading to the airport! I was visiting early August…read moreand read that this time of year friendly leopard sharks come up to shallow water for breeding season so I had to check it out! I heard a good spot was near the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club near The Marine Room and this turned out to be true! Took my snorkel gear and saw a ton of leopard sharks and stingrays so close to the beach! There was plenty of people around and lots of groups trying to catch a glimpse of the leopard sharks as well. The beach had a ton of people but it was very safe. There was a long wall where people were leaving some belongings while they were in the water so I also left my towel, shoes, etc there and I had no issues with my stuff even though I was by myself so I didn't have anyone to watch it. I also lucked out and got a parking spot right in front of the beach even though cars were circling quite a bit to find spots. I actually was going straight from the beach to the airport so I had my suitcase and all my belongings in the trunk of my car and it was safe while I was at the beach all day (a miracle for someone coming from the Bay Area LOL). The beach also had lots of rinse of stations so I was able to rinse off, get dry, change, and head to the airport!

A SAN DIEGO GEM This was my 'go-to' beach in the late 80s…read moreand 90s as a teenager for sun-worshipping and beach bonfires. Now in my 50s, I go less now -- maybe once a year, but on a recent visit we enjoyed a nice long walk from end-to-end and back and were lucky enough to catch some spectacular marine life in the tide pools near the pier. LOTS TO EXPLORE On one end of the beach, you will find the Marine Room restaurant and La Jolla Beach and Tennis club, along with mansions on the cliff edge, while kayakers from nearby tour and rental shops get safety briefings and enter the water. At the other end, you'll find Scripps Pier, Scripps Institute of Oceanography and if you're there at the right time, numerous tide pools with bright orange starfish and sea anemone. In between, you'll find grassy Kellogg Park, a tot lot, showers and restrooms, sinks and hand dryers. LOCALS AND TOURISTS The beach is about a mile long and comfortably deep in low tide. It attracts an international crowd, families, couples, surfers, teenagers, lovers, sun-worshipers, surfers, joggers, strollers, you name it. WHAT WOULD MAKE IT 5 STARS? There's a limited parking lot immediately adjacent to the beachfront, but I usually have to find parking on the street, not an easy task in peak season. As with all beaches in San Diego, it lacks vendors along the beach, so if you need a shop or get hungry or thirsty, either bring your own or seek out one of the clothing stores, restaurants or cafes along nearby Avenida de la Playa. La Jolla Shores is one of San Diego's nicest beaches in my opinion. Helpful?

TikTok took me to Blacks Beach for a hike and I had no idea what I signed up for…read more The hike itself was actually scary but so fun. We took the route that involved a little rock climbing, super slippery paths, and at one point we literally crossed a narrow plank with ropes and I was questioning my life choices lol. But once we finally got down to the beach... wow. I was SO excited. All that hard work actually paid off. The beach was beautiful and it felt so rewarding getting there. Then we started walking further down and suddenly... I realized there were a bunch of completely naked people everywhere. I had NO idea Blacks Beach was a nude beach. I was shocked for like 2 seconds and then started laughing because out of all the things I expected after surviving that hike... that was not one of them. 10/10 experience. Scary, fun, unexpected, and definitely memorable.

A great place to be on a sunny day. The hike down the cliff is a bit of a hike but well worth it…read moreand actually its a fantastic leg workout. The beach is really clean with most beach goers carrying there picnic trash back up. Volley ball games usually take place in the summer. The views are not to be missed. The sun reflecting on the water in the late afternoons is mesmerizing so bring your best sun glasses & suntan lotions. For the shy person the RIGHT side as you climb down the cliff facing the water is for those who prefer bathing suits, Speedos & bikinis. To the LEFT side of the beach facing the water is clothing optional. Usually its a bit farther. Great that nobody bothers you & its a safe space for that all over tan. Sometimes beverages are sold on the beach discreetly, however, I'd recommend bringing your own & lots of water. Its a good idea toto bring food, snacks, fruit and sandwiches... insect repellant if needed. *True, sometimes it is a bit overcast so its best to check the weather report before leaving. *Free parking is available above the beach. Please be considerate while parking in an organized fashion in consideration of others. Thanks. Enjoy the beach & surf!!
