POINT LOMA IN SAN DIEGO IS BEAUTIFUL ================================== My husband and I visited Point Loma, San Diego, on Monday, August 28, 2023, on the last day of our anniversary weekend trip. It isn't too far from South Mission Beach where we were renting an Airbnb. We got to the gate right before the park opened and we were first in line behind a cyclist to get in. I think the charge was $20.00 for our vehicle to enter. There was plenty of parking by the Visitor Center. I believe there is more parking up by the lighthouse too. You can take lots of photos outside the Visitor Center, the Cabrillo National Monument or the Point Loma Lighthouse. On a clear day the view is spectacular. Wear tennis shoes so you can walk up to the lighthouse or on some of the trails around the area. You can go inside the lighthouse, but not up to the very top. There are snack and drink machines by the Visitor's Center, but it might be a good idea to bring your lunch and just hang out for awhile. We were hungry and wanted to go to lunch, so we left before going down to the tidepools. We ended up driving to Coronado Island after our visit for lunch. I would imagine it get's really busy on the weekend, so definitely try to go on a weekday like we did. read more

Point Loma is the perfect place to catch a sunset. The only drawback is the parking lot closes at 5pm and there is an attendant there to kick people out. They have hiking trails that take you down to the water and tide pools. Entrance is free for active military and veterans, otherwise you have to purchase a pass. read more

We visited the CABRILLO NATIONAL MONUMENT, and LIGHTHOUSE a couple of weekends ago, and had a fantastic time. It costs $20.00 per vehicle, but we are JRC MEMBERS, at $35.00 per year. We began at the lower level, where we stayed for about 15 MINUTES. Fortunately, we found a disabled parking spot, and a bench overlooking the ocean. We then went up to the Visitor Center. We saw something that we had never seen before, a plane carrying a political figure into North Island. We visited the JRC STATUE and then the LIGHTHOUSE. read more

I heart Point Loma in beautiful San Diego, CA!! And so does someone else, since their license plate reads "PTLOMAH" (Btw, how cool is that?!). Raised in San Diego, I briefly attended Point Loma Nazarene University and met my husband when he was stationed at Naval Training Center (now Liberty Station). My, how things have changed at NTC. If I were to ever move back to San Diego, would love to find a place here. Convenient to the San Diego International Airport, the area is military friendly, offers an abundance of land and sea for outdoor activities, an Arts District for creatives, quirky restaurants for foodie adventures, and it is adjacent to Mission Beach and PB, as well as Old Town and Mission Valley. Other key landmarks you won't want to miss are the Lighthouse and Tidepools, Cabrillo Monument, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetary, and Sunset Cliffs. My all time favorite restaurant was Yakitori II, a Japanese restaurant, which was near the Sports Arena. Sadly, it's no longer there. :-( But, there's Hammonds Gourmet Ice Cream a few doors down! The flavors are to die for!! Also, you must visit Point Loma Seafoods, which is also near and dear to my heart. They've gone through a spectacular renovation which includes balcony seating on a 2nd floor with gorgeous views of the Yacht Harbor! Order their Fish N Chips and a Crab Salad with the Classic Louie dressing! Point Loma is easily accessible from I-8 and Nimitz Blvd or I-5 and Harbor Drive. read more

The review that I am submitting is the military background and the many places that tell of the many years of the military locations that are currently at the Point Loma Light house area. Through the many years there have been places that have had the history were the many places which were prepared for the use of costal watch and the many places that were used as the protective harbors for the many ships that tied off to withstand storms and hurricanes. Here in San Diego and the many areas along the coast have much more history and the background history with the testing of the Saturn Rockets that were fired from the Calif Coast. Calif was a place that helped in the many areas of the coastal watch programs with the war that was ragging in the Pacific the many areas that started from the Calif coast to the state of Washington state there have been many places when you look you may never know it was a gun battery. When you take a look about the many areas of Point Loma you may see the many military buildings and the many bunkers that line the many parts of the mountain hillside that overlooks the base yes Point Loma was the ephah center for the United States Navy and the many ships that makes the strength great. When you take a look at Point Loma and the lighthouse you look back to the year 1943 to 1945 the large area of Point Loma and the many areas of the harbor and the bay which had the many fleets that had made the bulk of the United States fleet here. The walk about the hillside you will see the history of the coastal watchers they had the longest time position they were there to watch the coats to keep a keen eye out for stray ships that maybe not American to radio and identify them. Armed with only a long-range telescope and field radio that would be in contact with the many fields or beach locations. Point Loma and the many locations that occupy the many areas of the City of Point Loma there are many advanced defense companies and the defense companies that work with the United States Navy. Point Loma is the longest running history and the developments of the many ships and the many of the submarines that leave from the shelter of the Naval Base that is there to the areas of the open oceans. You may see the many radar dishes cameras that scan the oceans and scientific Instruments that measure wind and the currents of the Oceans of the Pacific. As a Yelp Elite reviewer, I had taken two days and walked over the many areas of the overlook and the many things of the history of Point Loma reveal so much of what the history of Point Lomna and the many areas were all about. Entering Point Loma is like being transported to a coastal New England town. Well, except for the things that make southern California, California. Oh, and it doesn't have the harsh New England winters where the hawk is out and the cold wind is biting you as you make your way down a slush-covered cobblestone sidewalk hoping to make it home before your soaked feet freeze over. Wait, where am I? Oh yeah, cool breeze flowing, cloudy mornings, sunny afternoon with amazing sunsets on the Pacific, Point Loma. It's a nice sleepy town with a strong military presence thanks to the US Navy which makes up a large portion of the real estate. Speaking of real estate, some of the homes are on prime spots with beautiful views of the San Diego skyline, harbor and ocean depending on which side of the tall hills they happen to be situated on. And some of these streets are pretty steep. Take a drive up hill for some excellent vista panoramic. Point Loma has its share of places to eat. You'll find everything from seafood to burgers, Mexican food and pizza. Lots of mom and pop spots. Shopping is light. They also have some boating and beach access. Enjoy! read more

So worthy of your time!! A beautiful drive that will have you pull over to take snapshots. But not yet. Not yet because when you get to the tippy-top you will have full 270 degree view, wide open. Once you park, there are several great lookout points, making it fairly easy to take award-winning photos. You are so high up you get practically aerial shots on all the the San Diego coastline. If that's not enough, a lovely lighthouse is there. Next to it, a museum that explains the history of it, and those that made it famous. Seriously, a drive and destination that's so worth it. read more

One of my favourite places in San Diego. We were here on the most amazing clear blue day and it showed us the beauty of the Pacific coastline many times over. From the drive in to the last moments we had in the park at the tidal pools, every minute was a wonder. I would recommend to come here either first thing in the morning or a few hours before close provided you're not coming here on the weekend. My late Tuesday visit was calm and not filled with people. I'm not sure that would be the same on a Saturday. The park has a simple entrance fee of $10 and that covers everyone inside it. Just drive straight to until you reach the parking lot area because this site is still have active military secured areas and also military cemeteries. The Point Loma area are mostly 4 large sections... the lighthouse, the Cabrillo monument, the views across the bay to San Diego, Coronado, and Mexico, and the tidal pools on the western side. They are all probably worthwhile to do but I would say that the views from Cabrillo and the tidal pools are just wonderous and a must do for anyone in San Diego. When I spent 2 hours here, I must have stood a lot of the time in awe on how San Diego is blessed with the gorgeous landscape that I saw. For Cabrillo, if you're lucky like me, you'll have the deep sapphire clear skies to take the most amazing shots and perfect selfies with him or San Diego as your backdrop. It's best at low(er) tide to head to the tidal pools because you would see the most gorgeous russets and oranges come out of the cliffs and see the cool sea creatures that live beneath the surface. The setting sun gives the entire tidal pool area a warm golden glow. It's truly stunning. I am completely jealous of everyone who lives in San Diego. I have yet to find anywhere else on the Western coast that has this combination of breathtaking ocean views, incredible cliff landscapes, and majestic sights of the city below. read more

Beautiful Point Loma is an area located in southern SD. My younger daughter was in junior naturalist heaven. Check when it's low tide so you have a better chance to see sea life. Urchins can crabs, fish, and I heard starfish ( but we didn't see any) can be seen. It was pretty crowded the day we went, and sadly we saw a lot of visitors who allowed their kids to stomp, grab and disrespect the natural inhabitants. We ventured across the cliffs farther away from the crowds and we're happy to explore and sit on the cliffs and enjoy the ocean views. *** be careful, a family standing on the cliff next to us had a terrible accident, the dad slipped and fell 20 ft to the shallow tide below and broke his leg/ankle, busted out teeth and looked like he'd broken his arm or elbow. He had to have emergency services help him out of the rocky area below. read more

Point Loma is a beautiful place in the northern part of San Diego. Years ago, I had a coworker who grew up her, and she recommended I visit. Well, over five years later, I finally came here with a friend. The neighborhoods here are what you'd expect to see out of California suburbia. Family friendly neighborhoods, and well kept houses. In and around is an abundant of greenery, including parks to take in the nice ocean breeze and beautiful sights. The big landmark here is the Cabrillo Monument and the Old Lighthouse. They sit a short drive down a two-lane street. I wrote about them in other reviews, if you're looking for more insight. If you're visiting SD, this is a place to visit. I recommend it. read more

Really enjoyed this place. We paid about 10 or 15 dollars to get in and the pass was good for multiple visits. The first time we came on the Navy base it was partly for work purposes. My brother was going to be working at this location for a few weeks so we said why not do some exploring. We tried to go to the tidepool area but there was no parking spots left and it was closing soon so we left. We came back the following day a little earlier this time. We went to the Lighthouse Museum, Cabrillo National Monument, and Tidepools. We also enjoyed some of the gorgeous views just by walking around. My favorite part was the Tidepools. We found a parking spot (drive a little car if you can space can be tight). The Tidepool is the area were the tide recedes and then during other parts of the day the tide rises. They have employees out in the tides discovering sea life and they will point it out to you. You can also discover your own. Wear good griping shoes since this area is a wetland and is very slippery. It smells like the sea (seaweed) . I am funny about smells so after about an hour it was time for me to go I didn't want to get sick. The views are absolutely beautiful all over and there is history to be learned as well. Spend some time here and really just take deep breaths of fresh air and feel good knowing the beauties you see are made by mother nature herself. No effort from man can match what has already been created. Take the family and thank me later! read more

Last time I was in San Diego, I drove all the way to this monument and was turned away since I arrived 15 minutes after closing. Note to self, call and check when places close. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get to this location from the freeway so allot time for the commute. This time around, it was worth the drive. It was a beautiful and picturesque national monument. The view from this lighthouse of the surrounding San Diego area and the Pacific was amazing. Also, going to the actual lighthouse and viewing the artifacts and living quarters takes you back to a more simpler time. Things to know: - There are no restaurants on site. - No food or water vendors. - No vending machines. - Bring a jacket just in case it gets cold except during the summer months. - Wear comfortable shoes. You was might want to take a stroll around the trails. - Pack snack and drinks accordingly. - There are no children activities at the monument. - Be sure to charge your camera or phone for photos. - Have fun. read more

This is one of the area where its quiet, but has a good view of the city and ocean. . Houses here are very unique, big, and nice! The neighborhood is friendly and know each other. Its a great community to live in. . I have noticed where ever i was to travel to in SAN, its been really quick to the destination. Average ride from where we are at costs about $5 to $6, and $20 late nights. lol unless you get to skip the surge charges from lyft and uber. lol... . Its close to ocean beach, Sea World, and liberty market Public Place. Close to DownTown as well. . Overall its close to everything. It is quiet and gets away from the crazy traffic and people in downtown on late nights. This neighborhood really makes me want to move here in the future and just enjoy the weather SAN area. read more

This place is definitely one of the landmark in San Diego! No admission fee, only parking fee per vehicle. There is Cabrillo National Momument. They are showing documentary film about Cabrillo. Point Loma: where you get a brief history lesson while enjoying a gorgeous ocean view. If you drive here, the entry fee is $10 per vehicle and $7 per motorcycle. If you get dropped off or park outside and walk in, it's $5 a person. Driving here is your best bet! Take as many people as you can fit in one car, and your ticket will be good for the next 6 days (free entry for 6 days after your first visit). There's a visitor center, cabrillo statue, various restrooms around the park, multiple parking lots, and a short drive to the tide pools. At the visitor center, there's an auditorium and a room of historic displays. The people in these displays look freakishly real, just saying. You can also watch the ships sailing and airplanes and helicopters flying overhead. The lighthouse is also a cool feature. You can't go to the very top, but you can go inside. As for the ocean view, it's awesome. But if you want a free ocean view, you can get that at Sunset Cliffs, Torrey Pines State Reserve (if you find parking outside that is), or even La Jolla Cove. It is neat that you can climb down to the tide pools though. The tide pools section closes at 4:30pm and the park rangers and volunteers are very good at closing on time. read more

Yelp 2015 Challenge #74 These next couple reviews are gonna mesh together, as you don't really know where the lines mesh. Cabrillo monument vs Point Loma? I don't know. The general feel. A great place to go and pass by. It's not like Downtown San Diego where streets are one way and there are tons of people looking for the beach and walking around. Nope! The northern area includes the Southern tip of the 8 Freeway, but you have Phil's BBQ. I think :P There is however the wonderful residential district and you can look through the quaint houses. But then comes the Southern tip and you can find Cabrillo National Monument. Hehe. You can see the two lighthouses and the tide pools (and maybe the secret beach). I'm not gonna comment more b/c there is more to set in another review! read more

This is a cool place with a lot of history! It is a hilly peninsula connected to San Diego and surrounded by the Pacific ocean and the San Diego bay. It is one of the few places left that have tide pools that you can actually walk out on and look, but don't disturb the little sea critters that have gathered there. ( Put that starfish back! ) Home of the Cabrillo Monument, the Mexican founder of Point Loma, Juan Cabrillo in 1542. Home of the Point Loma Lighthouse ( you were able to still enter and go up one flight of stairs when I was there last ). The Old Point Loma Lighthouse has been safely guiding mariners into the harbor of San Diego since 1855. The Point Loma peninsula forms a natural protective barrier at the entrance to San Diego Bay, rising 422 feet to provide strategic views of the harbor and ocean. In 1852, the government of the United States recognized the importance of this sandstone rampart and designated the area as a military reserve. read more

I use mobilegeographic.com's website to check high and low tides for the day. * The Old Point Loma Light House - walk up the stair case and stick your head in the little peep hole at the top, pretty neat! * Whale Watching - a little south past the Light House is the Whale Overlook (best to come out around Jan & Feb) * Take in the view - from here you get beautiful vantage point of the city of San Diego, Mexico & the Pacific Ocean * Check out the WWI radio station and view the "They Stood the Watch" exhibit * Pay homage to those that have served for our country - Fort Rosecrans Cemetery - rows and rows of white headstones on 8 acres of land overlooking the majestic Pacific. Really lovely to drive through and pause to take in the views. Since it was Memorial Day the Point Loma cemetery had flags on all the headstones which made a remarkable photo op. We then drove into the gates ($5 -- and you can go in and out for a whole week) and parked so the boys could go play in the tidepools. You should stop here especially if you have kids! read more

Point Loma is on a US navy base and the gate closes at 5 PM. You will have to pay $10/car for entrance fee. Once there, there are several things to check out. To your immediate right after the toll booth, the road will lead you to the tidepool area. There are two parking lots so don't fret if the first lot is full. The tidepool is great for all ages, especially the kids. It is a bit difficult to walk down to for those with weak legs/knees so go at your own pace. The other attractions would be further down the road from the toll booth: the lighthouse, Cabrillo statue, and the historic museum. All are neat to check out, especially if you have time and enjoy reading historical facts Point Loma is a neat spot to check out if you're in SD, probably will need a good two hours or so to check out the entire area. read more

BEST place to view San Diego from above. Bring the family and friends.There are several fun things to enjoy here as well as plenty of history to soak up. I just love the FRESH AIR rolling off the Pacific and the fantastic views in all directions. Been here several times in the last 30 years and always leave feeling refreshed. You can sometimes see the whales or porpoises swimming at a distance during certain seasons. It is also fun to count how many different languages are being spoken while doing the tour. French, German, Japanese, Chinese, you name it and they are here. Nice! Don't forget to visit their visitor center with their interesting gift shop. They have a large assortment of cool things you can buy to remember your visit. This place does require some walking. Bring your comfortable shoes and take your time. Located in the Cabrillo National Monument Park. Currently $5 per car to get into the park. Keep your receipt if you run out of time. The pass is good for several days. Einfach Wunderbar! read more

If you appreciate light houses you will love this quaint 1855 Cape Cod style light. Walking shoes & camera & water and your on your way. The grounds & and light house are very well maintained.authentic replication of life inside the light. Miniscule fireplaces, furniture, lamps, art, etc. Tiny interior (people of the 1800s were small lol) Mini but informative museum. The highlight is the impressively beautiful French Fresnel crystal lens & lantern is now priceless. It's impressive that the lighthouse has been run my a series of woman! Be sure to walk around to the point as there is informative places about the natural fauna, sea life and foliage. Spectacular views! read more

The lines blur between Point Loma and Cabrillo National monument. Read below for my comments on the lighthouse and switch over to the "Cabrillo National Monument" page for my comments on the National Park museum and Cabrillo monument. This is a bit out of the way for a tourist to get to, but it is well worth the effort and time. There is a public bus that goes out here, but Uber works just as well and completely on your schedule. You have to pay $5 to get a car through the gates. The lighthouse itself was minimally interesting. The rooms that were the living quarters for the lighthouse keeper are furnished in period fashion, but have their doorways covered in Plexiglas. You can walk all the way up the spiral staircases of the tower, and can even get a few feet on the ladder up to the actual light, but a grate covers the opening leading to the lamp. You can stick your arms/camera up there though and get some cool shots. There is no museum or reading material in the lighthouse itself. Next door is the assistant keeper's building. In here is a museum relating to lighthouses and lighthouse lights in general, there is also information on this specific lighthouse, its use and history and the history of its keeper and information on the time period. It was interesting information, but requires no more than 20 minutes of inspection. If I had to pick between visiting Point Loma as described above or visiting Cabrillo National monument I would pick Cabrillo. The museum in the Cabrillo visiting center just a few yards away is just a tiny bit better in my opinion. The view is also much better as you are closer to the city. I'm glad I came here, but just don't go expecting too much. I recommend adding a visit to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery onto your trip up there. If you have a car you can drive there - there is mulch parking lots along the road. If you Ubered you can walk there - I did. It is less than 1 mile away and there is a smooth downhill bike lane for you to walk in. read more

People who don't like Point Loma are probably crazy. There are two lighthouses (TWO!), plenty of postcards to stock up on in the gift shop, and some incredible views. What's not to love? You'll learn some interesting tidbits and factoids about Cabrillo, the Spanish dude you'll see in statue form, who was the first European to set foot on the west coast of the USA back in 1542. You can explore the tide pools, if the time is right (pro tip: check to see when low tide is before you go!). You can snap shots of the sea, and errant whales or sea lions enjoying the waves. You can go for a hike down the side of the cliffs, and back up again, or just tool around the top if you're feeling lazy. Don't forget to take a bird's eye photo of the spiral staircase inside the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, as it makes a really artsy snap - especially in B&W. Good place to go view downtown SD bay area and the ocean. There's a lot of history too if you're into that sort of thing ;) The views were unbelievable. The pictures I have do not even begin to capture the beauty of Point Loma. Make sure you check out the lighthouse and go inside to take a quick look around. Also, head down to the tide pools! You can walk down by the rocks which can get a bit dangerous, or you can drive to keep its safe and see the same great views. I took an out-of-towny here and we simply loved it. It was my first visit too actually, and I'm not sure why I haven't ventured out that way before! Only $5 for cars to pass through to the peninsula, and it's worth it! read more

It's a cute little place on Point Loma! I love historical places and it's nice to see the city keeping its history. To get to the lighthouse, you'll have to go through the Cabrillo National Park. My husband and I went on a Friday so it was $6. Not sure about weekend prices, but our $6 admission allowed us up to 4 days!! The road there was scenic. Very beautiful ocean views. We also passed a military cemetery, also beautiful. From the Visitor's center there, you can see a beautiful view of San Diego harbor. You can see submarines and the ships from the port. But such a great view of Downtown San Diego skyline. The lighthouse was small. Not tall. There were two buildings, the lighthouse and a little museum on the side with information on the lighthouse's history. When you get to the lighthouse, you can go all the way up but not to the light because it's gated. However, you can walk around and see the different rooms inside. read more

Now this is what San Diego is all about! It was so cool to see the original Point Loma Lighthouse and all the history it has to offer! You can go inside the home level by level! It makes you feel like you are on a secluded island and the world only consists of you and mother nature. What is astonishing is the Military bunkers from War World II that are still enclosed in the mountain that you can walk down to view. Exploring the grounds here will leave you in amazement for about and hour or two so bring your walking shoes! read more

The view from this landmark is spectacular. I remember coming out to Point Loma as a little girl for Navy Base services and for adventures with my Family. We so hoped to see the passing of some gray whales, but alas not this trip, even though it is the time of year that they pass by on the arduous trip south to bear their young and mate again. I love lighthouses. Both of the lighthouses are beautiful. It is sad that you cannot go up into the light any longer. I stuck my iPhone up there to get a shot, but it's not as good as being in the light section. If you are in San Diego, this little trip out to the Point is well worth it: fresh ocean breezes, views for miles and beautiful scenery. read more

Honestly, Point Loma is kinda boring. Tide pools are okay, but are not as accessible nor as interesting as others I frequent. I witnessed an elderly woman take a nasty spill trying to get down to them. I was expecting more. Most of the views were so high up and distant that you need binoculars to see ocean life. I did enjoy the view of the city. But overall it left my family bored and disappointed. Oh well, they can't all be winners. read more

What a beautiful park! We checked low tide so we could enjoy the tide pools. I loved the cliffs, the shells, the photo opportunities. The lighthouse was fun to see and be able to go inside. The views were AMAZING by the visitor center. The visitor center and lighthouse close at 5 pm. The tide pools closed at 4:30. I don't know if that is year round or just because of the day. read more

This is a nice place to come if you need to kill some time. The view of the city is great, however your pictures are highly dependent on the weather. The lighthouse museum stuff was really interesting! The tide pools were nice but there weren't many creatures. Staff was very friendly and informational. Point Loma - Parks Near Me - San Diego, California

Everything closes early--around 4:00 to 4:30 PM! Viewing the ocean from Point Loma is rather different than enjoying it from the rest of the beaches in San Diego. Not only can you get a panoramic view of San Diego and Mexico, but on the flip side, you also get a view of the Pacific Ocean. Point Loma is by far the most serene. I didn't get a chance to go on the 2.5 mile trail along the coast, nor did I get a chance to see the tide pools before closing, so I'll have to return at some point. The lighthouse is quaint and offers much history to learn. I enjoyed learning about the various elements to the lighthouse and seeing the preserved homes of the lighthouse keepers. One warning I will give you is that the lighthouse gets pretty hot and humid inside. There's plenty to do at Point Loma. The mysterious Juan Cabrillo monument is not as large as I expected, but the history here is pretty interesting as well. On the way to Point Loma, you will also pass Rosecrans Cemetery. Although I didn't stop, the rolling hills of the cemetery are like nothing I've seen before. This is definitely a touristy spot, but I recommend coming here at least once during your visit in San Diego. read more

If you like hikes, a great drive, and great views definitely visit Point Loma when you're in San Diego. It's a $10 fee for their National Monument. It's 10 minutes away from Sunsetcliffs (Also, has a great scenery & saw many surfers). And, there's plenty of parking! The downside is one of their hiking trails do close a little early (4:30pm). So, I suggest to go early. read more

Located at Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego. This little lighthouse is very cool to check out. Just climb up a little ways from the visitors center and you're there. As others have mentioned, the views from here are beautiful. Aside from that, the lighthouse is open. So you can go inside and see how the lighthouse is. Make sure to visit this lighthouse while you are at Cabrillo National Monument. Don't be like some of my relatives. Some in our group said that it's too far! It's just a light hike, though. They were just being lazy. read more

Very awesome tourist spot. Be sure you wear comfortable shoes (I learned that by the mistake of wearing sandals...) It's really beautiful when you get here and there's a lot of plaques that tell the history of the lighthouse, how San Diego was discovered, etc. There is also a cute little gift shop here too. If you are in San Diego, this is a great tourist spot I highly recommend visiting. You will not regret it. read more

We love coming here to hang out, hike around, look at tide pools and toss rocks to the ocean. There is a $10 fee to enter park but the pass is good for several days. The ranger will provide a map. If you stay west on the road it'll lead to higher ground where the Point Loma lighthouse and Carrillo National monument are located. Interesting museum and beautiful views of the San Diego harbor. If you head north off of Point Loma Blvd after ranger station you'll go down to the beach and tide pool areas. There is a lighthouse down below that is not accessible to public. The tide pools are a short walk down a path. It could be difficult for handicap. (No wheel chair access). There are 3 parking lots. I highly recommend the first one if available because of access to tide pools. There are portable pottys if needed. Tip: bring food and water with you; you'll want to spend time here and there are no food options. There's a subway and coffee shop about a mile outside of the park so stop on your way. Also, plan to take sunscreen and good shoes with rubber soles. It's a slippery area. read more
