This is my go to park to walk to in the area to enjoy ocean views with my pastries/coffee from the various shops in the area. Whether it's foggy or sunny, the view is always nice. Multiple benches scattered around the park, facing the ocean. Lots of people walking their dogs, strolling, and biking around; pretty sure I happened to see a small wedding happening one weekend as well. read more

Fenomenal small park that I just discovered this last Sunday thanks to my boyfriend who used to do lots of bicycle urban trails around here. I found it so cool everyone with 'the box' (from Wayfair bakery) enjoying a brunch picnic on a Sunday morning. Just lovely..several people brought their towels for taking a nap of just picnic on the grass. Very nice mellow and lovely atmosphere. A few benches and total sense of cozyness. The views to the Ocean are so soothing. This is an awesome small park and you get to see amazing houses around. Check the. 'cromagnon houses'. I spoke with the owner and she told me that the magnific pieces decorating her mansion where made by her handyman! Never underestimate the power of creativity. read more

We love Calumet Park. We stopped here with friends and hung out before our SuperBowl party. Nice walkways and grassy fields here. Cant beat being right next to the ocean here. We say people walking their dogs, and walking their children in strollers. Nice family atmosphere in Lajolla. We will be out here again in the Spring and Summer. read more

Looking for a great day date? Go over to Wayfarer bread and then set up at Calumet Park for a picnic. The view is stunning and there is usually some kind of activity going on that's great for people watching. They have a few benches, but I'd suggest bringing a blanket in case they are taken. The parking has always been easy for me to find in the neighborhood, although a little harder on the weekends. I'd suggest planning to walk around a bit- the neighborhood has tons of little public access points among the multi-million dollar La Jolla mansions that have the prime ocean views. Grab Zillow and get nosy- it's pretty fun. Love this little spot! read more

We had out-of-town guests and we wanted a nice picnic spot with a sunset view. Yelp to the rescue! We decided on Calumet Park, and it was the perfect spot. Thanks, Yelp! Parking was a breeze on Calumet Avenue (this was a Sunday evening). Chairs were set up for a wedding, so we went to the southern area of the park. If you are looking for a place to hang out with a few friends while keeping your social distance, look no further. This is a very popular wedding spot, and the city issues permits for up to eighty people for four hours. No receptions, though. What's not to say about this little gem in bird rock area? I love that is rather private and not many people know or go here. There is a small patch of grass, so if you want to have a picnic, you may. There are benches, so if you want to sit and ponder the meaning of life as the waves roll in, you may. The grass area allowed for some game play if you so desire...I've seen small soccer games for kids and other games, too. Mostly, I love his place because it's where I got married exactly a year ago and it's absolutely perfect. It was a perfect day and there was perfect weather. Since it is a public park, people will pass by and may get in the way for some pictures...but overall, everyone was respectful and our wedding turned out perfect. Definitely cannot complain about that backdrop!! I'd recommend the park for a wedding, a sunset (doing that this evening to commemorate our wedding) or a picnic! read more

We came here for an outdoor wedding ceremony. This is a beautiful park surrounded by multi-million dollar homes. And with multi-million dollar homes you also get entitled millionaires who have no consideration for others. Seriously. A woman walked her dog right behind the ceremony, oblivious that she was photobombing the ceremony. How do I know she was oblivious? She smiled the whole way through. Thankfully Photoshop exists. There was also this older guy a short distance off talking on his phone. We could hear him clearly, and it was quite annoying. I wanted to say something to them, but nowadays rich people armed with cell phones scare me. read more

Lit-Uh-Ruh-Lee my favorite park in San Diego. I lived in San Diego for 3 years without a vehicle. I would traverse the land on foot, bike, and bus. There have been many destinations where I would post, but Calumet Park beats them all. I like small/intimate parks. Calumet is hidden among the nearby homes. I like dogs. Calumet is a dog-friendly park. I like beautiful sunsets. Calumet is on the cliff of the beach. For me Calumet Park hits every check mark for being a great park. Nearby there is a store where you can buy whatever you need for your comfort/enjoyment, a taco shop, surf shop, and healthy eatery. I currently live near Malibu and have a car. I drive up and down PCH practically every weekend, but I still reminisce on my favorite spot, Calumet Park. read more

This is a really small park in the community of Bird Rock. The day my bf and I went, we saw a lot of dogs playing on the grass off leash. There's plenty of street parking and the view of the Pacific ocean is just spectacular. There are many benches that face the ocean and it's the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset! Apparently, this park is a very popular place for weddings. You do need to get a permit though and it's good for up to 80 people. There's a popular surf spot down below called Rock Pile. We went on a chilly day so we only saw a lone surfer out there and even he came out of the water pretty quickly! Supposedly, there are no food or drinks allowed, but we saw a party getting ready to BBQ with a mini grill. It's a really great park for the people lucky enough to live in that neighborhood to stroll on down and enjoy the scenery. The sunset we caught was beautiful even though we didn't see the green flash. ;) read more

Also has ample space to fly a kite. Regulars have friendly dogs. Sunday's will sometime have a nice little wedding as it is so picturesque. I've also seen regular yoga sessions. I walk here at least 3 times a week and I never get tired of it. It has this breath-taking view of the ocean and has many San Diego locals. I have seen yoga, picnics, and marriages performed here. There are also a lot of people who come with their dogs and others who go there as they enjoy the surf with the reef break. All in all you cant go wrong here. Really small, local spot surrounded by beautiful homes. I bet this park hardly gets crowded since it is frequented more by locals than tourists. Great place to enjoy the ocean view and read a book. There are signs at most SD parks that say that dogs aren't allowed 9am-6pm certain parts of the year, but it doesn't seem to be followed by anyone nor heavily enforced. read more

This is a small neighborhood park in the Bird Rock area. It doesn't have direct beach access but instead overlooks the water. It was a gorgeous backdrop to our wedding and extremely cheap - just $40 for the park use fee through the city. Many of our guests drove themselves and didn't have problems with parking, but we did also arrange for a charter bus to pick people up and drop them off just in case. Because this is a small neighborhood park, a lot of locals take their dogs here. We left notes at all of the nearby homes letting them know we'd be getting married there in a couple days and asking them for their understanding about the noise, increased traffic and any changes they'd have to make to their usual routine. People were very respectful and courteous about staying on the edges of the park and not disrupting the ceremony in any way. read more

Great park, nice place to take in a sandwich, play with your dogs or watch surfers take on BirdRock (North), or PB Point (Southward). They have a water fountain and some benches. Parking is tough on the weekends. If you want a shower, bring a jug of water (after your surf). The walk down towards the surf is a bit steep and you'd benefit from reef booties but that helps limit the crowds. Always good on a big, long period South Swell. read more

Such a beautiful view! Nice sized park, not to crowded, mostly locals I would guess. Pretty dangerous to get the beach below, which is all rocks anyway. I saw animal control giving a guy with a dog a ticket even though it was on a leash. I checked the sign and sure enough, no dogs 9:00am - 6:00pm and must be leashed the rest of the time. Bummer. I have not seen people grilling there, probably because that's not allowed either. This is a park to relax, maybe watch the sunset and just chill. read more
