I have really enjoyed all my meals here. This is probably one of the nicest formal restaurants in town. If you're looking for a place for a formal occasion, or just a great meal with your spouse this is it. Unfortunately, after they left Eastchase, they downsized and lost their fantastic lunch (a real disappointment). What they lost in size they've made up for in quality and ambiance. They're usually filled up -- don't expect to walk in on a Tuesday night and expect to be seated. I think this speaks volumes about the quality of the food they serve. If you like burgers, and the La Jolla burger is on it, don't pass it up. They have a small selection of bottled and canned local beers, but, alas, don't expect fresh draft beer with your meal (a real bummer). read more

We've ordered take out from La Jolla several times this last year and have been thoroughly impressed every time. Everything is well packed and preserved that even after a 10 minute drive home, it's as if we're being served at the restaurant! This last visit, my husband got the creole gulf shrimp and I got the pan seared red snappers with asparagus and Brussels sprouts. We were both part of the clean plate club, that's for sure! What happens when excellent ingredients meet talented chefs - I guess you'd call it La Jolla. Everything about our visit was perfect. Our server knew every detail about the menu and made suggestions that were spot on. If you want first class service and food that you would expect in a metro area, then eat here. Of its contemporaries- Central and True -this is hands down the best fine dining experience in Montgomery. Oh, and like our waiter recommended, get the scallops! read more

La Jolla is hands down my favorite pick in the Montgomery area! The menu has some adventurous gourmet options, but still has plenty of "safe bets" for the picky eater. Their steaks are in the top 5 I've ever had--grilled on the Green Egg gives tons of flavor and texture! They have a great ambiance and wine selection, too! Well priced for the quality and portion of food is also a big plus. I personally recommend you request Damian as your server--he is phenomenal! It's very hard to find good service in this city but La Jolla's staff are all professionals and the food is delicious. Just ok. We've been before and had great experiences, but this time missed the mark a little. The server never even gave us his name, and virtually ignored us the whole night, though our drinks did stay full. We ordered the calamari and the 3 small pieces we had were delicious, but the rest of the plate was just fried breading/batter. When I pointed this out to the waiter he offered to bring us bread, which normally comes anyways. The filet and chimmichurri sauce were wonderful, potatoes underdressed but yummy, and the gumbo was good, with awesome shrimp and oysters though the fish was overcooked and quite dry. Not sure if we'll go back. Paying $120 for a meal for two is only really worth it if the service is superior and the food is perfect. Neither was the case read more

Wife and I went on suggestion from friends that this was one of the best dinner destinations in town. Upon arrival, we were treated with wonderful and warm service, and enjoyed the nice atmosphere. We are both early 30's and were probably the youngest people in there, it is an older crowd for sure. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and drink options, was VERY nice and patient with us, some of the best service i'd ever had. We were excited about our meals, and they looked fantastic when they arrived. This is where things turn south. I am a huge fish nerd (both fishing and eating), my "North Carolina Speckled Trout" was anything but. For those that aren't in the know, a NC brook trout should have red flesh (like salmon) and a nice rich flavor. What I was served was bland rainbow trout that probably came from Publix, not the Carolinas. The sauce on it did not complement a single item on the plate, let alone the trout that was drowned in it. My wife was also less than pleased with her meal. Overall it was quite disappointing to have had such a wonderful experience up to the actual meal, and especially at the prices they are asking. read more

Let me start by saying the food was fresh, well prepared and most importantly it tasted good - not out of this world good, but good nonetheless. Portions were moderate. The negatives, we arrived around 4:20 for an early dinner. Even though they open at 4, the wait staff seemed annoyed by our presence- we even got an eye roll and huff from one who was sitting at the bar drinking when we arrived. Once we were seated, he cleared away his drink and changed the music to something more appropriate - neither the drink nor the music bothered us, however the attitude did. The atmosphere, temperament of the staff, pricing, and food all clashed. It's like this place is going through an identity crisis. Upscale decor, nicely dressed wait staff, appropriate plating, fresh ingredients, and prices to match these aspects. Then you have televisions in the dining area, and seemingly unknowledgeable waiters, who at first were clearly annoyed, short and uncaring with their responses, but later warmed up. For atmosphere, price and professionalism I deducted 2 stars. read more

The food here is very good and has interesting takes on their dishes. The atmosphere was just right, a bit trendy yet comfortable. The Tuna spring roll was stuffed with tuna and served with wasabi. I wasn't expecting the roll to be fried but it was excellent nonetheless. I then had the lamb chop, perfectly prepared with a slightly sweet southern taste. They have a good wine menu and I enjoyed sitting at the bar. I can't say that the bartenders were the most friendly, they spent much of their time chatting with friends. Went there for our anniversary and had a terrific time - wait staff was outstanding: went out of his way to make our experience unforgettable. The lamb on the small plate menu was absolutely terrific!. Next time, I'll order it twice and make it my meal. My wife had the tuna with "pad thai" noodles. Avoid this dish or ask to substitute another side. The tuna was an excellent piece of fish, but under-seasoned. When we complained about the extreme saltiness of the Pad Thai noodles (which were not the type of noodle usually associated with Pad Thai, BTW), they quickly brought out cheese grits (excellent). I had the scallops; seared to perfection. My wife and I both believe both entrees would have benefited from more seasoning, but that's probably a personal taste thing. We'll be back, which is our way of saying that, regardless of price, we thought we were getting adequate value for our dining dollar. I'd like to rate this at 4 1/2 stars, with the deduction of 1/2 star for the Pad Thai, but I've got to choose between 4 and 5 and so am underrating with a 4. read more

I love La Jolla it's hands down the best restaurant in the Gump! I lived in Montgomery for almost 9 years and tried almost every restaurant while living in the area but La Jolla just proves to be superior to everything else that's around. Everything is always fresh and seasoned well and the service makes you feel like you're family. Every time I go with my family we HAVE to get the tuna nachos and I personally ALWAYS have to pair my food with their pomtini martini. The menu changes for what's in season which I also like because you're not always having to pick from a list of the same things. They don't allow children under 12 but I like that because it makes for a more mature and peaceful atmosphere. My family will never go anywhere else for special occasions because La Jolla is our spot. I just recently moved back to my hometown of Houston and La Jolla is one of the only things that makes trips to visit Montgomery something to look forward to (besides seeing family, of course). I definitely recommend La Jolla for everyone! read more

This was my first time visiting this restaurant and it was an excellent experience. The waitress I was with, Tanner, was the best. She was very friendly and helpful when choosing what I wanted to try. I started by ordering a Pomtini for my beverage, which was delicious. While I waited for my food I was brought a small warm basket of bread along with a plate of a olive oil & balsamic vinaigrette mixture. Once my food arrived, I was in awe by the presentation of the lamb chops. They were cooked med-rare and came along with baby russet potatoes, & asparagus. The flavor of the pork chops was awesome. They had a sweet grilled bbq flavor to them that went along very well with the potatoes and asparagus. For my dessert I chose the Chocolate Tart w/ Nutella fudge and hazelnut brittle. This is the perfect dessert for a chocolate lover. Overall this restaurant is small but it packs a lot of punch with their menu items and drink menu. Also if your a sports fanatic they have multiple televisions that play sports around the bar area. This may have been my first time here but it definitely isn't the last.... read more

Best restaurant in Montgomery. We have visited twice without a reservation, the first time (Saturday night) the service was amazing and we didn't have to wait to sit at the bar. The second time (Friday night) we did not have to wait for a seat at the bar either but because the regulars on both sides of us at the bar we're definitely favorites we didn't get the best service...which I guess is expected. The food is OUTSTANDING! We don't live in the area and searched on Yelp for a good restaurant and found this. It did not disappoint. Service was terrific (our server was a pro and knew his drink and food menu well), It had a sophisticated vibe and again the food was great. My husband had the macaroni and cheese with duck and I had the grilled shrimp wrapped in bacon with the cheese grits - both dishes I would recommend. Set in a shopping strip, their signage doesn't pop out at you so it is easy to miss it. ( It is next door to the Papa Johns by the way) Chose LaJolla due to the excellent reviews posted. Its fairly small so if you plan to go during prime time you might make a reservation. We arrived prior to dinner rush on Sat evening. The Mister ordered the lamb chops and house salad, The Missus ordered the veal piccata and house salad. While the veal was very nice, those lamb chops... I know others have raved about them. As they SHOULD. Holy COW they were fabulous!!! We shared the cheesecake for dessert. It was fine but not rave worthy. Service was prompt and attentive, never had to ask for anything.
