I had been to DR Chaffoo a few years ago for the cutest nose I could have ever hoped for ! We did a 2 in 1 for the deviated septum , he included this in the quote which is unheard of !!! I think we did the surgery right before Christmas ~because I have a vivid memory of calling him Christmas Eve , late at night , to get permission to sleep on my side . Second, they yanked me around just trying to get me scheduled - moving me around three times, apparently thinking that their time is significantly worth more than their patient's time. I get it, money is important to you. BUT after getting rescheduled three times, each time being informed how super busy and wonderful they are, I opted to pass. Attending a consultation here is like visiting a used car lot, filled with slick salespeople who fawn over you like they can smell the contents of your wallet. Even after explaining repeatedly that the services they kept trying to sell to me would not be effective on me, they kept on trying- everyone I spoke to prior to coming said they DID offer what I was referred for, and yet more than 3 weeks later, I've still not been given any details, and I'm bored of trying to get what should be basic information out of them. Heaven knows what hell if have gone through if I'd been naive enough to actually use them. I was also prescribed a medication without being told about any of its possible side effects- I shouldn't need to rely on a pharmacist to fill me in on things like a guaranteed drastic decrease in fertility! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Stuart for quite some time for skin cancer screenings (as I am fair-skinned with a lot of freckles and moles). She is always friendly, manages to make me feel comfortable even without my clothes on, and is great about letting me know when I should and should not worry and when I should get something double checked just to be safe. Last time I went in, I also casually asked her about some hormonal acne I'd been having. She prescribed me an oral antibiotic, and even gave me some samples and a coupon to make it more affordable. She also gave me a topical cream that she has specifically compounded for her, which, at $40 for a bottle that has lasted me 5 weeks already and isn't running out yet, is much more affordable than the name brand options out there. After the first couple of weeks using both, my skin is actually CLEAR. As somebody who has always had at least some level of acne, going weeks without any blemishes is a BIG DEAL. Her office staff is also great--efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable. They don't push anything on you that you don't need, but are there to offer anything you ask for. I was recently treated with Botox by Dr. Stuart and I can't overstate how good the results are. What's particularly impressive with the results was the fact that this was the first time Dr. Stuart had ever seen me. Previously, I had visited a couple of spas where the results were inconsistent, always required repeat visits, and the service subpar. At this practice, I was meticulously assessed and treated by Dr. Stuart herself, in contrast to other places where an assistant might do most of the work. The office, which is well appointed and well staffed , is within one of the Scripps hospital building, so give yourself an extra few minutes if you're a first-time patient. I'm been coming here for about a year now and I'm really grateful I found this place. The receptionists are always welcoming and happy. The reception area and office is well decorated and maintained. The couch is comfy though I haven't had to wait there more than ten minutes. Dr. Stuart seems like a really nice person and even though I'm sure she sees dozens of patients every day she always seems like she remembers me and is happy to see me. My one complaint is that usually Dr. Stuart is running a little behind schedule, but I'm pretty sure you'd be hard pressed to find a doctor in San Diego that was 100% on time all the time anyway. read more

I know that getting botox injections is a pretty simple procedure, but it makes the world of difference getting it done somewhere where the Dr. doesn't rush you in, stick needles in your forehead, take your money and call it a day! Botox is pretty generic these days, and hard to mess up unless you are getting is in Mexico. But when you find a Dr. that pays so much attention to detail, it will change your life. My skin has never looked better thanks to Dr. Stewart's knowledge, experience and artistic ability to properly inject botox in the perfect areas. Thanks to her, I still get carded which means I look pretty young! Also, the prices of her services are extremely fair for the level of service and attention you are getting! I have been getting botox for 3 years now and have bounced around from different dermatologists and plastic surgeons because I don't like feeling like a sales transaction while I'm getting a needle injected into my face! Normally everywhere else I have gone, I am in and out within 15 min or less and feel like they aren't very thorough in the process. Each time I go to La Jolla Skin, Dr. Stewart takes the time to see what my needs are at the present moment. Whether I need more, or less, or in different areas, she always makes sure we discuss all of my options before we proceed. She also doesn't try talk me into getting more if I don't need it. We also discuss ways to improve my skin in the future and goes over steps to achieve my goals over time. She STOLE $100 out of my purse after moving it without my permission. Unfortunately this was not the first time. Months before I lost another $100 but did not think an employee from a respectable establishment would be a kleptomaniac. I had a gnarly rash on my torso, and most disturbingly all over my chest for 3 months. 2 primary care visits (no offense to her, it's not her specialty) And an appt with a Derm at SRS-that the doctor dismissed my symptoms and insisted "it was just dry skin." NO medication or recommendations, just to be patient as it "would eventually go away." Well, it didn't. It got worse and more unnerving. I contacted Dr Stuart, she felt my angst, told me to come in That day! She took one look, prescribed an ointment, advised 2 weeks it would clear and within DAYS the disgusting brown patches began to disappear!! Unfortunately I had a pretty bad experience with my appointment so I feel its important for people to know what to expect from this establishment. My treatment was supposed to start at 1p.m. and by 2:15p.m. I was still waiting. The person who was assigned to do my treatment was not wearing scrubs, failed to wear gloves, the chair was broken so I had to be moved to another room, then the assistant broke part of the equipment by not being careful, and on top of that, she didn't seem to know what she was doing. Scary! I felt so uncomfortable that I decided to get up and ask for my money back. Incredibly disappointing. I'll never go back there again and most certainly won't recommend it! read more

From my initial consultation, to my final checkup, they made me feel like I was family. Dr. Chaffoo even remembered my name each time I came in to see him. Everything in regards to the COOL SCULPTING procedure was thoroughly explained to me to the point when I had my first procedure, I felt like I had already experienced it, as the attention to detail, information & education that was shared with me was unsurpassable. Dr. Chaffoo and his staff are so welcoming. He was the first (and only) dr. I visited. I went in for a consultation for my nose. He was very specific with his vision. And showed me imaging before and after. I was unsure about the sizing of my nose so I came in for a second consultation. I had scheduled the surgery a couple months later. I came back in for some pre-ops just to go over some things before the big day, nurse Nancy was so sweet she gave me a detailed explanation of what to do, what I should take, swelling what I should eat etc. days before surgery I got a call from the surgery center, and soon after I was in surgery (knocked out of course )I had some pain getting up and the day after I had to go back so dr. Chaffoo could check it out, he was very gentle, (the oxycoden also helped the pain). And a week later he had taken the cast off, now I'm two months post opp and my nose looks amazing and so natural, it's better than I expected! Very professional staff and dermatologist. The office is elegant and there was no wait time. It's a major improvement from my last derm (see review). I would give it 5 stars except for two things: 1-when I have a consult with a derm, it should be with the dr, not the "beauty consultant" on staff. 2- I paid $400 for v beam and so no improvement whatsoever. Yes, i was told it would take a few tries...but for that much money I would expect at least a slight improvement.......anything at all! BEWARE!!! I received cool sculpting here from Robert, who supposedly has worked for Cool Sculpting themselves prior to working under Dr. Stuart. I received my first treatment in 2016. After seeing no results from Robert, I received a second treatment a few months later. Following my second treatment, I had a huge rectangular shaped mark on my lower abdominal area clearly due to being burnt!!! I contacted Robert and I was told that it will go away in a month or so, and here I am 7 months later with the exact same scar. After contacting Robert numerous times, he told me that I signed a consent form and that there is nothing I can do, except wait and hope it disappears. I am absolutely embarrassed by the permanent scarring. It is very noticeable and I cannot wear anything at all that shows my stomach!!! Every time I look at myself in a mirror i am reminded of this hideous scar. Not one person from the clinic has called me out of concern, not even Dr. Stuart who is in-charge of the clinic. I don't like going to the doctor until I absolutely have to and whenever I am having a skin issue, this is the place I always want to go back to....Dr. Susan Stuart is one of the BEST dermatologists around. She has a wonderful bed side manner and has always made me feel totally comfortable when I am at my most vulnerable. I also had my first facial at La Jolla Dermatology with Vicki Shulte, the Registered Electrologist & Esthetician who is also FANTASTIC. Lately, I have been suffering from stress-related acne which is a challenge because I get anxiety if I break out and then the vicious cycle continues. I was searching for a top dermatologist and I went to La Jolla Dermatology thinking they were one of the best in the San Diego area. Unfortunately, I couldn't have been more wrong. I spent more than $2k for two laser treatments for Melasma. When I did my initial consultation, they guaranteed the treatment would be successful. I followed their instructions to the letter, including buying several hundred $$ worth of their lightening creams. The first treatment was extremely painful and didn't even recommend numbing cream. About 2 weeks after the treatment the skin had completely peeled from my face and the dark spots were a little lighter. I went back for the follow up consultation and was told that because it was hurting me during the treatment they had to "turn down the strength" of the laser and so it was not as effective. For the second treatment I requested numbing cream and they prescribed a mild pain reliever for the treatment. In this treatment I was led to believe with the numbing cream and pain medication, they would be able to go with a much higher laser strength and it would get all of the spotting on my face. Again after 2 weeks the skin peeled and this time there was no change at all. I went back to the office to follow up and express my dissatisfaction with the treatment. They basically ignored me and blamed it on the supposed lower laser strength from the first treatment. I requested an additional treatment, having paid so much with no positive result. The only thing they would offer is to give me another at almost full price. I was very surprised that a medical practice with such an apparent good reputation would act this way. I did not go back and do not recommend this dermatology office to anyone. There are far less expensive options that will give you the same or better results. To top things off with this place, I never had an appointment that I didn't wait more than 45 min after my appointment time to be seen, without even an apology for being so late getting to me. I still regret spending so much money with this company with nothing to show for it. I highly recommend AGAINST using there services. read more

I truly had the best experience with La Jolla Skin! I was referred here by a friend who received micro needling and raved about how amazing her skin looked and felt after. This friend of mine recently moved to La Jolla from Beverly Hills and is definitely picky when it comes to all things beauty, so I completely trusted her recommendation. I had been wanting to do something more than just your standard facial to help the texture and appearance of my skin... acne scarring, pigmentation from the sun, large pores. I called to schedule my appointment and spoke with Jennifer who was SO sweet and helpful. When I went in for my appointment I have to admit I was a little nervous, but after consulting with Tracy I felt much more at ease. Nancy was the RN that preformed the micro needling and she too was amazing! She calmed my nerves and was just so so great. After having numbing cream on 30 mins prior to the micro needling I literally felt no pain or discomfort during the service. The machine is loud which sounds scary, but honestly it's nothing.
