I made the biggest mistake of my life getting a rhinoplasty with Dr. Kolstad in 2021. He didn't properly remove the hump on my nose, and worse, he left my columella deformed. He did not properly stitch my columella back together, leaving a flap of cartilage hanging off my nose, in addition to a grotesque scar. After the initial surgery, he attempted to re-stitch my columella two additional times, leaving it in even worse shape. By that point (a year later), I no longer wanted him to touch my nose. Upon my last email to the office, in which I asked for compensation due to the undelivered results, Dr. Kolstad "left me on read." He didn't even have the decency to respond and say no. I ended up paying so much more money to address the problems he created. While my new surgeons were able to fix the cartilage flap hanging off my nose, the scar has unfortunately persisted to this day. Three years later, and I am still cleaning up his mess. I am currently seeing a scar specialist and hoping to improve the scar as much as possible. His mistake, which he did not take accountability for, has caused me so much mental anguish. During my time with Dr. Kolstad's office, I asked his staff multiple times for my before/after pictures. Each time, they insisted they would send me the photos. They never did. I did some digging, and found several people on other platforms who had experienced a similar issue with their columellas after their rhinoplasties with Dr. Kolstad. This seems to be a recurring issue with his surgeries. It took me a long time to finally sit down and write this review. Dr Kolstad is a wonderful physician. I had a consultation recently for a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates which I thought were my main sinus congestion problems. Dr K explained to me that turbinates expand and contract as necessary depending on how dried out your nostrils are. Then, he recommended a humidifier in the bedroom while I am sleeping to keep my nostrils from drying out. Most doctors just go straight into the procedure that you asked about and then the cost, etc. but Dr. K wanted to help me heal long-term, not just do a procedure. He is honest he is professional. He is knowledgeable and if you have problems with your nose, I don't think there's anyone else I would recommend going to see first. Can he make your nose, beautiful ? Absolutely. I will make a summary of what I am upset about after mentioning the details. I came across doctor Kolstad on Google as a plastic surgeon. I wanted his opinion about an eyelid surgery ( wasn't done by him) I had a week prior to the day I saw him and one of my eyelids wasn't opening all the way. I went on his website to make a consultation appointment. It is said it was free and it is one hour long. I went to the appointment to find out after I filled out the paper work that this is considered " a second opinion"which I didn't know what that is to begin with, and there for it will be $215. I told the girl I wasn't told that on the phone. His office manager came immediately out of her office to do the talking. She said because you had a surgery already and need his opinion so it won't be free. I said you guys don't make that clear neither on the website nor on the phone when I called to see if you got an earlier cancellation and it was confirmed it was free. There was no good excuse at her end other than this is what it is. Since I was there already I agreed. The doctor saw me and said the area is still very swollen but unfortunately this is not his specialty cuz the muscle that lifts the eyelid wouldn't be something he works with. That requires an Oculofacial plastic surgery doctor therefor he refers his patients to doctor and he gave me his card. The whole talk lasted 8 minutes. I timed it actually. I called the other doctor just talking to his office manager was a whole other experience. She said first of all, ETHICALLY we wouldn't want to charge you $200 for the consultation ( I am familiar now with what a second option is!) Since your surgery is fresh and there is a lot of swelling there. To get an accurate opinion I suggest you wait few weeks because it might not be working well due to the swelling and it might work on its own. If it doesn't, you can come in but it is up to you at the end. So, before getting to my opinion, any one who reads about both experiences with the two offices would be able to tell what is the problem. 1- Doctor Kolstad's office should be clear about different types of consultations either on the website or when people call. 2- when he found out it was not his speciality i should have been offered to get part of the money 3- how can the one hour consultation charge be the same amount as the 8 minutes one?I basically paid $215 for 8 minutes At the end, yes I could have walked away when they said the number. But I thought I am getting what the money is worth. And they could have been more clear and more importantly honest about what 8 minutes is worth specially that it is something he can't even help with. So, even if I liked his work photos I will never recommend that place for any of my friends or clients. Also I will never consider going there for any future services. Work ETHICS show starting with small situations like this. PS. The doctor who did my eyes is in TJ and he doesn't believe anything is wrong. Just a matter of time. Will see. read more

Dr. Kolstad performed rhinoplasty in 2019. In the months after the surgery the swelling helped mask the final result. They tell patients it can take up to a year to see that result and I must admit that it took a bit longer than a year. My nose, which had a small bump on the bridge, was transformed into a bumpy, crooked nightmare. I reached out to the office on two occasions to let them know how dissatisfied I was and they told me I could go back to have an injection done. Injections, however, are temporary fixes, so I declined their offer and have been looking for reconstructive surgeons to correct this terrible, embarrassing and expensive mess. read more

I am almost 2.5 years post septorhinoplasty. Overall, my experience was good. To try to sum it up: I wanted cosmetic fixes to my nose, including removing a hump and hanging columella. I chose Dr. Kolstad because he was calm and honest, even though his price was higher than others I'd consulted with. The surgery and healing went well. He and his office were responsive. My profile looks great, and my breathing is improved (I didn't even know it needed improvement!) However, from one 3/4 angle, there is a bridge concavity that looks a little unnatural/odd. I also still have a very small bridge hump (but this doesn't even bother me since it's so small). There is also some cartilage that hangs down from one side of my columella that he was unable to fix in 2 (painful!) in-office procedures. This makes my nose still look long and like it's "hanging" down. He agreed that my results warranted a full revision which he would not charge for, but I would need to pay a facility fee and anesthesiologist fee (around $2500). I knew this would be the case for a revision, so I'm not complaining. It sounds like a small amount for a revision surgery, but remember it is in addition to the original amount I already paid. Unfortunately, this isn't in my budget so my nose will stay like this. I am glad my nose looks better than it did, and I don't think I expect perfection, but wish I didn't have these remaining issues.
