Overall, an okay Mexican restaurant. I was passing through Dothan, Alabama around lunchtime and this place was directly on my route home so it was a great and convenient location to grab lunch. I was seated relatively quick and just as quickly, chips and salsa were placed before me. I scanned the menu and while some of the lunch specials looked inviting,I ended up going with their burrito chorizo. My server was okay, though she never really checked up on me nor offered to replenish my salsa. As I said, the service was okay, but did really nothing to enhance my dining experience. The place has a cool enough vibe. It has the almost stereotypical ambiance that I have seen in countless Mexican restaurants across the country. This is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I find it kind of comforting to be in an atmosphere that I have been in countless times. The burrito chorizo was also okay. That seemed to be the running theme of my dining experience here. Also, be advised that this restaurant charges you an additional almost four percent if you opt to use a credit card. read more

Dothan has several Mexican restaurants. La Leyenda is on the opposite side of town that I live so I have never made my way over. Well, after experiencing La Leyenda, I think I will stay more on my side of town. The service was a little slow. There were times when I needed something and had to wait for a few moments. The salsa was very, very mild. I usually don't ask for a spicier salsa, but I did this time. There are 2 more spicier salsas. I asked the waitress which one was the hottest. She said the red one so I asked her to bring me the green one. I mixed the green one with the mild salsa I had and it made the salsa to more of my liking. I ordered the Burrito Chorizo. These burrito came with chorizo and pico de gallo on top, smothered in cheese, and was stuffed with beef, beans, and rice. I think the burrito would have worked better without the beef and beans. It seemed like it was just overwhelming with the chorizo. I wish I had picked another entree. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. Overall, I would give La Leyenda another try if I was with people. I just need another entree and make more salsa more flavorful. But there are other Mexican restaurants I would pick over La Leyenda. read more

drinks tasted like soap. never came and checked on us once. when we were ready to check out our server was sitting with her friends st another table just talking and having fun instead of checking up on us. and I asked my food to not have certain things on it but couldn't get that fixed bc server was to busy hanging Out to do so. I like what they have going on at this restaurant. The happy hour is right during prime hours, so that is a huge plus! The service is polite and friendly. I love their spicier salsa. You have to ask for it but it's worth it. The house salsa tastes weirdly like marinara to me. That is the only part of my meals that I haven't enjoyed. Get the housemade guacamole. They gave us a HUGE bowl of it and it was fantastic. I ate a bunch of it then saved the rest for my burritos. The burritos here are my favorite although I've seen plenty of other dishes I'm curious about. The menu here is gigantic. Incant wait to work my way through it. read more

Is place is on one of the main streets that circles the city. Unfortunately, there's lots of road construction in place. That makes it difficult to access if you're driving northbound especially because the left turn traffic is highly used as a transition onto the westbound cross street. You'll probably have to wait a couple lights just to make a u-turn so you can get to this place. Once there, there's plenty of parking spaces in their lot. One of my favorite go-to tools in deciding whether or not a restaurant gets an extra star, is to order something not on the menu....or to ask for a change in the way something is listed on their menu. I really enjoy flautas....which are traditionally made with a flour tortilla. But some places, like La Leyenda's, make theirs with a corn tortilla. For me, those are taquitos. I asked my waiter if I could get the flauta but with a flour tortilla. He said he'd check with the cook. "Yep, they could be made with flour tortillas!" So that's what I ordered ( with chicken). Meanwhile, I sipped on my Coke and tried not to munch too much on the chips & salsa. Now the salsa was weak...I added lots of pepper to it. It was OK after that. The chips were nice and crispy. Pandemic protocols were in place, but none of the diners were wearing masking as they entered or exited the building. When my order arrived, it looked delicious. It tasted even better! I even topped my flautas with a little of the peppered salsa and it just tasted really good! So for me, the overall service was better than expected and so was my food. I definitely would recommend this place to eat if you're in the mood for some Mexican food. read more

Stopped here on a Wednesday night to get my Mexican fix. Was immediately seated and brought chips and salsa. Chips weren't warm- but it was an hour before closing and they were fresh. Salsa wasn't over spicy- just about right for me. Ordered a beer and a chicken burrito supreme. It came about 5 minutes later. I'm from Texas- so the food was pretty good to my standards. The nachos were so nasty for $11. It was microwaved cheese with shrimp on top of nachos. My husband got a chicken quesadilla and the meat had the texture of tuna or already chewed meat.....The waitress also had an attitude from the get-go. Myself nor my husband will be going back there. read more

Okay, so. Drinks are strong! But that's the only thing. Food is subpar at best, and service is awful. Very expensive for the quality of food you receive. My server was very rude to us. Five stars because this food is priced very low, good size portions, and the flavor is the best in Dothan. This place just opened in April 2017. There are quite a few Mexican restaurants in town but only a couple good ones (none great but we used to live out west so we're snobs about it). This is really good. Not overly Americanized, but everything we had still had a really good flavor. The carne asada steak was really good as well as the the choriza . I had a $10 burrito that could easily be two meals. My wife had three tacos with beans and rice and that could have been two meals as well. The free chips and salsa are slightly above average. Nothing special. I like thinner chips. This salsa also did not seem to be freshly made. The guacamole app was fresh and very good. I asked for it a little bit spicy and you could tell the jalapeños had just been cut in the kitchen. The atmosphere is nothing special, but that's why the food is priced so well I guess. Service was amazing. Only our first visit but they were on top of everything and seem to have plenty of staff around. I have heard they have a really good lunch special that is only like five bucks. I will go back and try it out. My family will also be back soon. read more

Stopped by for a meal while visiting Dothan Alabama. The restaurant is large and has large windows with lots of natural light. The server was persistent to take my order and after the order was placed the food arrived within a short while. Service is pretty quick here. I had the veggie quesadilla which was loaded with cheese, mushrooms, onions and peppers. The quesadilla was good, nothing impressive...just good. So we stopped here on our way back from the beach, and it was kind of weird experience. First off, the salsa was a little weird. It tasted like they took marinara sauce, watered it down, and added Southwest sauces to it. The chips were good, and the cheese dip was as well. The guy that took us to the table didn't speak much English, which was fine, except he got some of our drinks wrong. The food came out quickly, and it was actually really satisfying. The rice wasn't dry and everyone seemed happy with what they ordered. I got the enchilada with a taco, rice, and beans. The food was good, but the salsa was weird and the hostess didn't really know what he was doing. Other than that, everything was good. read more

Amazing food! Great service. I moved to Dothan from San Diego almost 4 years ago and this is the only place in our area that has authentic Mexican food. Claudio (the owner) is incredibly talented and makes sure all of his dishes are of the highest quality. The portions are generous and the food is perfectly seasoned. Granted it has been quite a few years since I have lived in Dothan. But I did spend my first 18 years of life there and visit family numerous times throughout the year. And in my opinion, this is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Dothan. This is yet another case that Yelpers and the Yelp app led me in the right direction. I was in town visiting my grandparents who can be a little picky when it comes to places to eat. They don't always like the same thing and therefore decisions can be tough. That along with the fact that is was past 7 and a lot of our options were closing at 8, made our decision even tougher. La Leyenda was five stars, hot and new, and popped up towards the top of my search. My grandmother is not particularly fond of Mexican food, so this was passed over a few times. But eventually she decided since she hadn't tried this place, we all would go. The layout is still much like the layout of Shoney's that was the original tenant of this building. But obviously the decor is much different. The servers were extremely attentive and friendly. Always a good start. The chips and salsa were nothing great, but they certainly weren't bad. My grandmother did think the salsa was a little too spicy, so the waitress was more than happy to bring her a good substitute. The menu is overwhelmingly huge. I think there were close to 100 items on the menu to choose from. Many of them sounded good, but nothing sounded perfect. So I opted to try the a la cart menu. This is the first a la cart menu I can remember that had a minimum number of items you could order. It was very odd that it had a set price for the four items, but each individual item had its own price. Not sure how it worked out on the check. But it was not very expensive in general, so I couldn't really complain. For my items, I got the chicken quesadilla, beef taco, rice, and beans. Everything was fantastic. None of the meat was dry and had a ton of flavor. The portions were also huge! And the rice might have been some of the best Spanish rice I have ever eaten. I feel like I eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants, and this was one of the better experiences I have had. And for it being in Dothan where my expectations for Mexican are low, 5 stars no doubt. My grandparents also raved about how good everything was. And my grandmother (who I remind you is not overly fond of Mexican) thought it was very good and planned on coming back. Wow! So glad we stopped here for lunch on our way through town. So sad we don't live nearby to come again. Doesn't look like much from the outside but inside is super clean, A/C is good, Horchata drink was really fresh and delicious-the best I've ever had and huge! Complimentary chips and salsa-salsa was really delicious. Draft beers, glass bottle coke. Food came out super fast-very good service. Excellent taco salad, chicken fajitas and kids beef burrito. Our family really enjoyed this place. Prices are super reasonable too. Would've paid more at fast food instead we got fresh and healthy here. Five solid stars!! read more

I can't believe this place has 4.5 stars. I wish I would have paid more attention we were starving and just needed to get some food. The service was poor. Outside sign states happy hour from 4-8 but server stated there was no happy hour. The food- um Taco Bell tasting and quality. Nothing special, very bland. Their salsa tastes like pizza sauce. The enchilada sauce tastes like pizza sauce. I did get a lot of food for $9 which is why I'm not giving it 1 star. We had to ask to get check. Visited during lunch time, week day. Prices are low. The salsa is poor quality. It tastes like they added tomato sauce to a salsa. Chips taste scorched or old. Not sure how to properly describe that. The beef in the taco and enchilada had a scorched taste as well. Rice and beans were bland. My date described the chicken in the chimichanga as over cooked, "scorched." There's a theme here is guess. Margaritas were inexpensive, but low quality mixer and tasted like all mixer. Will not return to this restaurant. read more

Stopped in on our way home from PCB. The salsa was gross- plain & simple. The bean dip was delish, but no heat. The food came out quickly, but very bland. I tried this place because I recently discovered the very low score at Labamba, where I've been going. La Leyenda has a high score and better reviews. I was excited and expecting greatness when I called in my order and she said "give me 5 minutes." I gave her 7. I got there and had to wait 5 minutes for the food. Then I had to ask for the drink I ordered. They were not busy at all. I left, had to go back inside for plastic ware/napkin. She handed it to me and kinda shrugged like "idk".....I feel like I experience this incompetence everywhere in Dothan. Is it something in the water here? Food was good. I won't be back. read more

The Michelada drink was really good and their happy hour deals are nice, but they don't give you as much freedom to choose what you want to eat. For example, you have to pick four different items a la carte if you even want one side item. That's ridiculous. I have a love hate relationship with La Layenda. It was one of my favorite places to eat in Enterprise in 2013, so I was thrilled that they had a Dothan location near my office. I ordered my lunch togo; chicken and cheese quesadilla, side of sour cream and guacamole, cheese dip, chips and salsa. The quesadilla was a bit soggy. The guacamole was nothing more than mashed avocados, which was really disappointing. The cheese dip had a good flavor, but was a bit on the runny side. The salsa seemed to be just crushed tomatoes with a little cilantro. It seems like they're trying to cut costs all around, very disappointing for those of us who have loved this place for years. read more

We had to choose a restaurant within walking distance and this one had great reviews, so we decided to try it. We were not disappointed! Overall, the food was great! We had fajita nachos that we added shrimp to. The seasoning on the meat was delicious. I liked that the chicken and steak were cut in thicker strips which made the meat more moist. I would recommend to the chef to remove the shrimp tails and perhaps add a few more peppers and onions, but overall awesome flavor! One of my sons had the Burrito Three Amigos which was HUGE and delicious! My other son had the Fajitas Texanas which were also huge and delicious! The salsa was okay, but didn't taste like regular salsa. It almost tasted like it had a lot of oregano in it. Our server, Claudette, was super sweet and very attentive. We would definitely stop here again the next time we are in Dothan. read more
