    Burrito Chorizo....not all that great
    Rhett B.

Dothan has several Mexican restaurants. La Leyenda is on the opposite side of town that I live so I have never made my way over. Well, after experiencing La Leyenda, I think I will stay more on my side of town. The service was a little slow. There were times when I needed something and had to wait for a few moments. The salsa was very, very mild. I usually don't ask for a spicier salsa, but I did this time. There are 2 more spicier salsas. I asked the waitress which one was the hottest. She said the red one so I asked her to bring me the green one. I mixed the green one with the mild salsa I had and it made the salsa to more of my liking. I ordered the Burrito Chorizo. These burrito came with chorizo and pico de gallo on top, smothered in cheese, and was stuffed with beef, beans, and rice. I think the burrito would have worked better without the beef and beans. It seemed like it was just overwhelming with the chorizo. I wish I had picked another entree. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. Overall, I would give La Leyenda another try if I was with people. I just need another entree and make more salsa more flavorful. But there are other Mexican restaurants I would pick over La Leyenda.

I like what they have going on at this restaurant. The happy hour is right during prime hours, so that is a huge plus! The service is polite and friendly. I love their spicier salsa. You have to ask for it but it's worth it. The house salsa tastes weirdly like marinara to me. That is the only part of my meals that I haven't enjoyed. Get the housemade guacamole. They gave us a HUGE bowl of it and it was fantastic. I ate a bunch of it then saved the rest for my burritos. The burritos here are my favorite although I've seen plenty of other dishes I'm curious about. The menu here is gigantic. Incant wait to work my way through it.

Stopped here on a Wednesday night to get my Mexican fix. Was immediately seated and brought chips and salsa. Chips weren't warm- but it was an hour before closing and they were fresh. Salsa wasn't over spicy- just about right for me. Ordered a beer and a chicken burrito supreme. It came about 5 minutes later. I'm from Texas- so the food was pretty good to my standards. No complaints. Service was good and I'll probably go again.

Love the food and atmosphere. My first time eating Mole and it was amazing. I think this is the best Mexican food in Dothan.

Service was fantastic, food was delicious and oversized portions. Can't beat the $1.50 Modelo on draft.

This has become a favorite spot for Mexican food! The service is always great. For this visit, Ruby…read moretook good care of us. Great personality and she was on top of things.. The food came out very quickly. We had barely started eating our appetizer when our entrees arrived. We ordered the La Parilla dip appetizer. It's a thinner cheese dip with steak, chicken and shrimp and is served with flour or corn tortillas. We ate the meat with some of the cheese sauce on the tortillas that came with it. We also dipped our tortilla chips in the cheese sauce. Hubby drizzled some on his Mexican rice and loved it that way, too. Hubby ordered the steak burrito again. It's covered in cheese and is served with Mexican rice and refried beans, which are both very good. The steak in the burrito tastes like it came from a good steakhouse. I ordered the carnitas platter which came with large chunks of pork carnitas in a green sauce. This is different from other carnitas I've eaten as they are usually served in the jus. It was delicious! It does have a little heat so if your taste buds are sensitive, ask if they can prepare a mild version. The carnitas are served with Mexican rice and their delicious Charro beans. If you haven't tried these beans, you should! Be sure to ask for a spoon for the beans. You won't want to waste a drop They have plenty of onsite parking on 3 sides of the building. We've never had to wait for a table here even when the parking lot is pretty full.

I tried asking what region of Mexico were the dishes inspired by. In reviewing the menu I was confused, there was a very small selection of traditional Mexican dishes. Where was the Chili Verde, Carnitas, Birria, Pozole, Lengua, Chili Colorado, Tamales, Tostadas, just to name a few. I ended up getting the Chicken enchiladas with green sauce, cheese, cream and fresh onions and beans on the side. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed. My order came out and the enchiladas were actually Cold!!! Sent it back, when the order came back out they were hot. They had very little green sauce, lightly sprinkled cheese on top, none inside and cream and onion also on top. The chicken was shredded with a red color. I have to say that, because there was no sauce in the meat it was dry and I felt, it did not have flavor. The beans were actually not bad, I ate those with the chips. There were several groups of people in the restaurant enjoying themselves and appeared to be enjoying the food as well. However I feel if you want traditional Mexican food, like you would get in Baja region this is definitely NOT the place to go.
