This is my favorite La Madeleine location. The atmosphere is so cozy and the staff is very professional and friendly. I absolutely LOVE their French coffee. It is always delicious and fresh. I've been to two if their other locations and this one just does it right! My go to order is the cafe sampler. I get the Tomato Basil Soup, Caesar salad and a half chicken Florentine. Any of their pastries and desserts are fantastic too! I truly enjoy and appreciate the variety of La Madeleine's main menu and fresh bakery I items. If I could afford it, I'd eat here every day. Perfect place for breakfast! I love to eat here after I get off of work in the mornings. This cute little French cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day. The ambiance is wonderful. Lots of seating area, inside and out - self seating by the way. French music playing in the background. They even have a fire place that they light up during the winter months. When you order your food and pay, they give you a letter on a stick and when your food is ready they drop it off to you. So far I've never had a bad experience! My favorite thing to order is the chicken pesto pasta and the chicken friand, which always sells out! I've waited 20 mins for a fresh batch! Their French onion soup is delicious as well. I almost decided to leave and visit another spot, but my young son was losing patience with brunch experience. We waited in line about 15 minutes. I ordered two eggs and a croissant, along with a potato galette. The folks behind the counter were moving quickly. It was difficult to get the attention of someone to get the galette. Then, it was difficult to get the attention of someone to get a water glass. Then, we were informed that they were out of water glasses. We took our seat and started with some of the sourdough bread and blackberry jam (which is delicious!). Unfortunately, the jam containers were sticky, leaving messy fingers at our table. We waited over twenty minutes for the scrambled eggs and croissant. Judging by the warm temperature of the croissant, they may have been waiting for it to come out of the oven. The eggs were not so warm. That morning, it seemed they were busy and working hard to serve a large number of guests. This is not the first time my family and I come to this location or this restaurant. We came today my dad stopped by to get a potato soup he asked the server for some bread. Was told that they did not have any even though they had it on the tray he also asked for a large soup and they only gave him half of the container. This review is just based on their dessert. I didn't have a chance to grab lunch or dinner. I went there with a friend after dinner for desserts. We both wanted cakes! However, by the time we were there, most of their desserts were gone. They're very popular so get there early if you want variety of cakes and tarts to choose from. We only got to choose from a whole fruit tart, mini lemon tart, or a mini chocolate tart. We both chose a mini lemon tart (bite size). I also picked up a bag of chocolate chip cookies on the counter (6 per bag). Lemon tart was really good. The sweetness and tartiness of lemon flavor was well balanced. However, I felt it tasted a big refrigerator taste. What that means is that I felt the tarts were in the refrigerator for a long time. Pie crust was not crunchy as I wanted it to be. The inside is like you walked in on a little piece of Europe, and the bathroom has Music/learning French words. Once a month I visit La Madeleine with my family. The food quality is excellent, and the menu items are reasonably priced. The restaurant environment is OK sometimes is too busy. The service is far from good. The food service speed is very very slow. They seem to have a hard time cleaning the tables and fulfilling orders. The dishes are sometimes missing ingredients because they run out of them or the cook forgot to add them to the recipe. I get the same thing each visit, and the lack of consistency in the meal preparation is striking. La Madeleine seems to have a lot of restaurant employee turnover that makes the delivery of memorable hospitality difficult to be achieved. The location of this place is sort of weird. It's at the far right side of a huge parking lot area where Staples is. Nevertheless, this place is cute and cozy. They have a nice little fireplace with real fire burning, and friendly workers. When you enter the cafe, there is a menu stand in the middle. Choose your entree, and when you're ready, order at the front of the line. As you go down the line with your tray, you can choose to add soups or desserts. At the end of the line, the cashier waits patiently for you to pay for your food. If you ordered something that may take a while to prepare, then you are given a big spoon, which helps the workers locate you. There's a little section after the register with utensils. A few steps ahead, there's [complimentary] bread with delicious homemade jam (the raspberry jam is delish), and butter. Then there's the coffee section, because the coffee is self-service with a wide selection of creams and sugar, as well as honey. The bread is delicious with butter and a drizzle of honey. But that's just my opinion. The complimentary bread is awesome because it's like an appetizer you eat while waiting on your main entree! Very smart. I have tried the Pesto pasta with chicken and another time with shrimp. The Pesto with Shrimp pasta was really good. The only thing that I was disappointed in was the overcooked pasta. Tasted mushy. I've been going to this place since I was little and it never gets old. Located off the Pleasant Hill exit (104 off 85). The set up is different from most restaurants, it's more of a "cafeteria style." When you walk in you can see the French cafe theme, before the line to order begins there is a couple menus sitting on a table and a bench nearby to give people time to order. The fireplace is cozy in the winter and the outdoor seating makes for great lunches in the spring. The tomato soup is The GOAT, I cannot express my love for this soup in words, and the fact that you can buy it to make at home is wonderful. The aura is tranquil here and I love catching up with friends here. It's also so close to many other food spots and coffee shops. The chicken friand, croque monsieur, and tomato basil soup were rather rich and heavy. However, the menu also included some lighter options, which were helpfully labeled with their caloric values. My favorite is currently the vanilla fruit parfait, which is light and refreshing! The fresh fruit tart was semi-sweet and decent, but I would try the other desserts before getting that one again. La Madeleine: Imagine a slightly French Panera Bread and that's what you get here. What makes this restaurant charming is the interior layout and small-town café theme. It all made sense and made feel like I was in Paris. The menu even boasted quiches, crepes, and pastries: all of which sounded wonderful on paper. The thing that made this experience subpar was the food itself and the cafeteria-style with which we got our food. When ordering, you go through a line with a tray to order bread, quiches, salad, etc, and then you take a seat. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind cafeteria-style food and cafeterias in general, but I did not like this at all especially given how fast the food came out, which makes me think the food was pre-made or microwaved. The quiches were disgusting, so I would recommend not getting those unless you're getting them for your dog. The chicken pesto pasta however reminded me that not all things at this café were bad. It was creamy and the chicken was excellent. The sauce on the crepes were almost identical to the chicken pesto sauce, and I would not be able to tell the difference between the one here and the one in Ikea in a blind taste test. They will give you a number so the food runner will indicate who to give the food to. Yup! I got talked into coming here. I have to admit that l liked the chicken crepe. Naturally being French food it was loaded with cheeses and other creamy sauces. I liked the Tomato Basil soup too. The tomato basil soup has a very lively flavor. It has a deep richness to it. The tomato adds a sourness to it but, basil, cheese, and other ingredience balances this out well. Yes, I said cheese again. Complement it with a litte freshly cracked pepper just for the bite. I gave it a few quick turns on the grinder which did it some justice. The potato galette(hash brown) tasted pretty good. This is more of a place to hang out. Perhaps this is not the type of french food I am used to. I realize that French portions are small and are cooked to be very flavorful, having a "burst" of flavor. With exception to the soup the portions only met the first criteria. Great place. I loved the ambience, service and warmth of the place. Location is great, right on Pleasent Hill Rd; so very convenient for me. Plenty of parking, as it's in a huge plaza that has RTG, Toys R us and On the Border etc. I got here based on a review from one of my friend on yelp This was my first visit. So after burning 600 calories at the gym, I was looking for a breakfast with protein and some carb punch. I ordered custom omelette and replaced croissant with baguette, and a coffee. Pretty casual and friendly environment; you place your order at the counter, pay for it and sit at a table. They will bring food to you. The order came out way sooner than I expected. I wanted to try something different so I ordered a potato galette, which looked like a potato patty to me, turned out to be French version of hash brown, with very strong taste of cheese and I believe green onion. All of this, with free coffee refills and 2 hours of cozy and relaxing surrounding on a lazy Saturday morning costed only $13 bucks.....can't get any better.
