La Madeleine is one of my favorite lunch spots! I love the french onion soup, and the Turkey & Brie sandwich is a great choice for anyone who loves brie as much as I do! Such a terrible experience with this La Madeleine, even though it's one of our favorite easy dinner spots. We ordered pick up via the website and the confirmation said the meal would be ready at 6:55 pm, we arrived at 7:00. Staff was not very welcoming or friendly whatsoever, they seemed bothered to have to help customers. Upon being serviced at the pick up counter, it was clear that our order hadn't even been started yet. I had to tell the cashier what items we had ordered before she could even find the online order slip. It took them over 30 minutes to fill the order, the wait was absolutely ridiculous. Even more disappointing, the food wasn't even warm once we got home even though we don't live far from the restaurant at all. Overall poor experience and will not be returning to this location. read more

This feels somewhat ridiculous typing, but something seems to be missing since the restaurant relocated a couple of blocks. The new layout - and no outdoor seating - causes lots of awkward wandering around with trays of food. The silverware/bread/soft drink area is kind of a nightmare, but I suppose the previous one wasn't much better. I could get over all of that if the food still killed, but it just doesn't taste like the same quality from six months ago. Perhaps they're busier than normal right now causing kitchen issues, but it's getting frustrating. I'll keep it as a regular lunch option and hope things improve. read more

There are many great La Madeleines that I have been to. This one falls so short of all of them and gives the chain a black eye. We had to bus our own table so we had a place to eat. There were many tables that needed to be cleaned. I had to tell the staff the ladies bathroom needed service very dirty at 2:30 in the afternoon. There were no forks and it took over 8 minutes to get cream for my coffee even though there was abundant staff. So no one cleaning tables or making sure things were up to snuff. The coffee was good and the pastries were good but service was horrible. I had to wait 10 minutes in the take out line to buy an over priced bottle of water 2.50 for a 1.00 bottle of water every where else. Shame on you . read more

3.5 star worthy. Ordered online for pickup here and I honestly expected better. I got the Provençal Vegetable & Goat Cheese sandwich which was GREASY? It was good but greasy. And the half portion is TINY!!! I got the 1/2 portion with 1/2 potato soup and honestly the soup was not great. When I think of potato soup I want something hearty and cheesy, maybe even some bacon but nope not here. I also got the fudge brownie which I am led to believe is made at their distribution center & not even in house. My co workers food was just alright too. The Nutella muffin was small as hell for $3. If I could I would give zero starts for service.. i don't have any complaints about the food it was well put together and nicely done. Other than that my only complaint is the poor service, it took extremely long for us to receive our food. First thing we received was our sandwich after waiting 30 min we still had no drink or soup and by the time we were done with our sandwiches we still didn't have our coffee or soup, In total we waited 1 hour for a 30 min max wait for our meal. I do not recommend to dine in unless you have 2 hours to spare. I get they were busy but if that's the issue they need to hire more employees that way everyone would get a better experience. read more

I am very disappointed with la Madeline today. To start with I stood at the counter for several minutes before anyone actually talked to me to take my order. Several people behind the counter kept pointing us out so they knew we were waiting. When I got the food my Cesar salad had crumbs for croutons, the French onion soup was lukewarm and barely had any cheese on top. Then I had to clean my own table so I could sit. I seriously doubt I will be returning anytime soon. read more

Not a good place to spend money. One of the women that works at the front is very unfriendly and always gives a nasty look. I asked for extra cheese and she refused to give me any by claiming "it was out". It amazes me because I looked and saw extra cheese in the container lol. read more

In this post COVID-19 life and maybe I shouldn't say post because we're still in it, I can't believe that someone walked up to my car with the facemask under his nose, dirty fingernails to hand me my pre-ordered to go food. I was a palled! There is no way that they can think that this is proper in this time. I am posting this review two weeks late with the hopes that their practices have changed but I am definitely not going to give them another try someone else will have to review them. I felt that the practice was disgusting and filthy. why wear the mask at all if you're not gonna wear it properly. 20 minute wait for takeout in an empty restaurant and watching the staff dilly dally was super frustrating But their failure to keep masks on and wash hands between mask touching and food handling was inexcusable. Probably won't return!!! Went to la Madeleine's in Elmwood on Friday, 11/29/19 about 4:00PM, very few people in cafe. Ordered a sandwich on wheat toasted, got one with salad and croissant, returned, 2nd one, white bread, not toasted, finally brought sandwich back to food line 'MYSELF', told the cashier what happened, seemed to be irritated with me. There were 3 employees behind counter, no one other than myself to serve, 1 man cooking at grill and 2 women, 1 with hair braided down to her waist and constantly touching hair and BOTH ON PHONES, never looking up. Finally, I asked the cashier, can they get off their phones and help me??? Did get the order correct this time, handed me the plate, never saying one word, hear you go, sorry this happened, they just DON'T CARE!!! So far I've stopped in for breakfast and lunch at this new location. Seems bigger than the other location or this one has a lot better flow. As always the atmosphere is so nice, and the staff is very friendly, BUT the food hasn't quite come up to par with other locations just yet. Breakfast was a tad mediocre at best in comparison to what I've had here previously. Eggs were runny and there were hardly in veggies. Lunch was the same mediocre scenario with the exception of the salad and pastries. Salad was super fresh, and pastries are always spectacular. Breakfast service was slow, but that's normal. Lunch service was fast so this could be a great lunch spot if they can get the flavor profiles right. read more

I'm giving this 4 stars because it is normally a very pleasing experience with good food. This experience; however, was off putting. I ordered the pick three with a double salad. Before ringing the order up, the cashier called the lady who made the salad over to correct her on her portion size. I asked her to ring me up for whatever was made because the situation was uncomfortable. In the end, the .40 difference was worth ending a situation that should've happened without guests present. Maybe the lady was new, or didn't realize it was above the portion limit. Whatever the case was, the salad lady was pleasant throughout. Kudos to her! read more

Ive enjoyed La Madeline with my family for a long time but not anymore. The quality of the food as well as the service has gone downhill since they've opened their new location. The service was colder than the food and the whole place reeked of bleach. Their 'sweet' tea tasted like tap water and sewage, there was no ice in the machine and their bathroom was deplorable. Not sure why the chicken isn't made in house anymore, but we won't be back. $35 for chicken Parisian sandwich, which is now made with fake chicken that's bland and chewy. The bread is no longer made in house either. They don't even dress the sandwich with lettuce and tomato and crunchy bacon like they used to. The side pasta salad was extremely dry. I was working on a last minute event for my office, and we were in a time crunch to get some croissants and other treats. This location jumped into action and popped croissants into the oven for us and packaged everything up in beautiful boxes for our clients on very short notice. We appreciate them saving the day! If you're looking for quiet, chill, maybe someplace to read or study... take grandma for a Sunday brunch -- this is NOT your place. It's PACKED with a line and slow table turnover. Stacks of dishes on tables that no one clears while people stand around waiting. Only spoons left for silverware, which made eating super fun! The biggest surprise was its a buffet type setup, not a quaint cafe. Lots of volume and not a lot of taste. The croissants look... moist. But not in a good way. They're deflated and not crispy on the outside. Maybe the butter runs out of them but if you're looking for lofty and flaky pastries, this is not your place. They really need to work on their French bread and pastries. Nothing is crispy. The potato galette was a salt vessel and it was fantastic trying to eat with a spoon. There's a little bread bin to help yourself but no tongs, so people just use their hands. Mmmm, tasty. Coffee was not good. If you're looking for the high school cafeteria of French-ish food, this is your place. Went to la Madeleine for breakfast yesterday. Both hubby and I ordered the American breakfast with eggs over a little more than medium and bacon. Plates arrived with eggs swimming in what looked like oily butter. Eggs were definitely over easy, whites around yolks looked like runny snot! These were sent back with request for eggs to be cooked the way they were ordered. Plates came back with eggs cooked almost the same exact way! The bacon was precooked and very cold with congealed fat on each piece. The best thing about these meals were the croissants. We waited for almost ten minutes after asking to speak to a manager, then gave up and left. Don't think we'll be back for quite a while! read more

More team members standing in bakery section chatting than serving the out the door line...this included someone referred to as the manager. Went to the new location in elmwood today! Had high hopes they had improved since moving...wrong! Ordered the Caesar salad with salmon and cup of tomato basil soup. The soup is delicious... the salad had way too much dressing and (I know I should have ordered it on the side) but the salmon was either from a package or a can... I thought it would have been a piece of salmon... husband ordered French onion soup and French dip. His soup was not even warm... the cheese could not melt... he took it back to the counter and the girl said she could not do anything about it and to take it back to his seat! He then found a manager and she did get him a hot soup... but his French dip came out cold...and the employee who brought it out had pants on that were hanging down below his ass! Not a professional look! Because I was not thrilled with my salad I went and grabbed a slice of bread and a butter... the butter was rock hard cold... so that also disappointed me...I gave 3 stars because the new place is beautiful and the manager did bring a hot soup to hubby as well as offers us free desert... but we were so disappointed we declined and left... don't think we will be back read more

A few days ago had an app reward to redeem - a savory croisant square. They gave it to me cold on the plate. I asked them to give it a quick zap in the microwave and they put it in an oven! For too long. Dry and hard pastry. Other choice is cold and dry. WHY DOES LA MADELEINES ON CLEARVIEW NOT HAVE A MICROWAVE TO HEAT UP THEIR PASTRIES? My girlfriend and I came here, it's a very nice old fashioned and relaxed atmosphere. The service was quick and the woman who helped us was very polite. We got the Chicken Parisian and Turkey Bistro sandwiches, with a side cup of potato soup, with cheese and bacon, which is by far the best potato soup I've ever had. The sandwiches were freshly made and toasted perfectly. We will definitely be back for more! read more
