a dozen donuts in a box
    Lynn W.

Some of the best donuts are served here. I love love love the glazed chocolates here. They also cook food here. I got 2 dozens of mixed donuts. The cherry filled and sprinkled donuts are also delicious. If you are on the Westbank give them a try.

First off, that honey butta hot chicken sandwich is so delicious. The spice and sweet and the butta is so rich and leaves a long lasting impression. That is the bite you'll be thinking about and returning for. But don't sleep on the donuts either! Normally I'm not huge on donuts but that lil peanut butta cup donut with the whipped peanut mouse and chocolate ganache...yeah ima need that. It's perfectly balanced with the bitter chocolate ganache, and the light mouse. Obviously, after you're eating all this, you're gonna need something to wash it down. They have an excellent selection of coffee and teas, I enjoyed their chai latte, which wasn't too sweet for my pallet. After I thought I couldn't eat anymore, the chicory ice cream spoke to me so I had to answer. Stopping here made for a perfect day of indulgence than walking up and down magazine Street and shopping. The staff here is so nice too! They let us come hang out back here after we were done shopping and needed to rest for a bit. Which was nice because this place has a decent amount of seating and a little patio in the back and some seats out front. I would absolutely recommend this place to anybody. Who's in town in New Orleans!

Now let's talk about breakfast: Weekday around lunch. About 1/4 of seats taken. As best I could tell, 2 or 3 servers. Coffee, OJ and soda brought promptly after ordering. FYI - drinks reasonably priced. I opted for Spinach & Swiss omelette, hash browns well done and biscuit. He opted for Meatlover's omelette, hash browns and toast. 25 minutes later breakfast was served. Husband's order was fine: tasty omelette, and the toast was well buttered. Mine? The Swiss was sticking out of the omelette and it was a slice not melted. The cheese inside the omelette was melted, and overall it had good flavor. The hash browns had good flavor, but they were not well done. The biscuit was not buttered - there was butter on the table - and it was nice and dense to support slathering it in jelly. The waitress checked on us a couple of times. I made no comment whether it was good or bad, because I was going to eat it anyway. As a general rule I don't send things back, and in this instance given the time it took to get it, I was starved and certainly wasn't sending it back. Leftovers box and checkout was super quick. This experience: 2 stars; averaging to 4 stars for restaurant overall. Will continue to use for pastries, but won't be back for another sit down experience.

Surprisingly, we were the only patrons there at the time, and our order came out quickly. Fast forward to a Thurs morning a few weeks ago... We checked out this place as we were in a rush and were craving a good omelet. The queue was almost out the door, the place was packed - we never thought we'd get our order in time. It took some time for us to place our order, but in under 15 minutes, our order was out to us. This time, in addition to the classic veggie omelet, we had berry pancakes. The omelets were just as good as they were a few years ago. Portions were ample, food was fresh, and it was reasonably priced. The pancakes left much to be desired, though. There was a single berry atop the 3 pancakes. It was also impossible to get any honey or syrup out of the packets they included in the condiments area. The pancake itself was not too thick, which is nice, but there was nothing to moisten it so we ended up eating very little. The pancake is also advertised and priced as an upgrade from a regular pancake order, when in reality, it is just 3 pancakes with one strawberry. That was quite disappointing so I will probably never get pancakes from here again. I will return for the omelets however!

Dough Nguyener's Bakery -- 4…read more Dough Nguyener's really introduced me and my son to the flavors of ube and pandan... and I still can't believe I went my whole life without them. Like where have I been?! We are forever grateful for that alone. As someone who already loves Vietnamese culture through food here in New Orleans, this place just hits. Vietnamese coffee is a staple for me--not even for energy, but for the flavor. If you know, you know... that bold, strong, chicory-meets-condensed-milk moment. It's rich, it's cultural, it's intentional. And when you start adding things like pandan cold foam? Simple, but it speaks volumes about the influence and beauty of the Vietnamese community here. I respect it, deeply. Now let's talk about that Croffle... a croissant-waffle situation. I went with the Chantilly and berries because... you already know, I'm gonna choose what feels like home every time. The cream was smooth, the fruit was fresh, everything worked. My only thing--personally--it was a little heavy on the almonds for me. Still good, just my preference. We also had The American--eggs, bacon, French ham, hand-cut fries, garlic aioli, and a baguette. I shared it with my son and made my own little sandwich moment with it. Used the aioli as a base, layered the eggs, bacon, and ham... and I feel like that's exactly what it was meant for. Solid, simple, and filling. I've tried a few other things too like the bánh mì and donuts. The bánh mì was good, donuts were okay... not my go-to for that. But that frozen cocktail? Listen... it was TOO good. Took it to a festival with me and between that drink and that sun, I slept the whole festival away lol. Overall, I'll definitely be back. I still want to try more from the kitchen--especially that chicken everybody keeps talking about. This is a great spot for early weekend brunch, late evening studying, or weekday coffee runs. Not too small, not too big. Beautiful lighting. A really good addition to Gretna.
