Great pastries, awesome crepes, friendly service, pleasant interior and deck. For better or worse, I don't often get down to Norwich before 3pm, when La Maison Blanche closes, but when I do, I try to get in here. The savory crepes are awesome, standing head and shoulders above the other crepes I've had in the area. As far as I know the rest of the menu is similarly great (according to my sweetie), but I always get crepes. I prefer the salmon crepe to the egg and bacon crepe, but that might just be me. You just walk in and order at the counter, and then grab a table in one of the rooms in what appears to be an old farmhouse. The deck looks great, but I've yet to get there on a day where it works for me. The tables are all different, old wood, in comfy rooms with large windows and simple decoration. This isn't fine dining, but it's not expensive, either. Service is pretty quick, although not instant. And the staff is pretty cheerful and friendly. On your way out, buy a pastry from the case -- they are awesome. I'm not sure whether they're made on site or at their companion store in NYC, but they rock. read more

We LOVE this place! Their croissants are the REAL DEAL and delicious! I love their French Onion soup, which is also the "real deal". They offer various sandwiches, paninis and omelettes, and of course their desserts, cakes and cookies are excellent. We like to sit in the sunlit back room to eat our lunch. We had to stand on a line for a while. Once ordered we sat down and an Asian lady who couldn't speak English and seemed very confused finally served us. The food was ok. The ambiance could be more charming. It was a little plain. Overall I'd say it's a place to go once in a while if you really want to have a quick French snack or light meal. Nothing much to talk about. Overall I feel like it's a choice for a quick Frenchie snack. I just hope they could improve decor and service. read more

Best bread of my life! I love this place! The views from the back deck are really incredible. The service is warm and friendly. I got a chantilly dessert and it was incredible! The best little coffee shop and bakery in the area! I always try to stop by at least once when I'm out to visit my parents. Many of the baked items are really exquisite. Frankly, I doubt most of the residents in the area don't realize how good it can get when they're acclimated to Dunkin' down the street. Of course, prices are quite a bit higher in order to justify the quality. The espresso is good, though not quite up to par with the bakery side of things, but the large, living room with fireplace seating area is attractive, neat and clean (though lacking the soft furniture that would characterize it as comfy). Before I retired I would head to La Maison Blanche for the morning to get work done before returning to visiting the fam. Hours are a bit unusual, so you'll need to plan your visit if you're driving Route 12 from Binghamton and points south. read more

Hands down the best place to eat in Chenango county! I'm a foodie and a snob and I must have the best. Living in Chenango county can be a challenge for someone like me, and I'm constantly looking for a restaurant I can call home. This is the place! I'm not sure why it took my so long to find this gem, but now that I have, my life has gotten better. This is a French bakery that serves excellent breakfast and lunch. They serve breakfast all day (yay), and are the only place open on Sunday (woohoo). If you live around here, you know how rare that is! The food is fresh and the service is amazing (Chanel is my favorite server/hostess). I highly recommend their soup de jour, and I'm obsessed with their crepes. I'm a vegetarian and I have an easy time finding food to eat at this cafe. I lied.... I have a very hard time making a selection because I can't decide what delicious item to order. They have pastries, cookies and cakes! Yum! They are the real deal and most of the time I have to Google the names since I'm not versed with French cuisine. I have ordered several birthday cakes and they were unbelievable! They are not overpriced when you consider the cost of a PC cake which is about $20. If you want to escape and feel like you're in Europe and not upstate NY, please stop by this fantastic cafe! It's in an old Victorian house, with indoor and outdoor seating. Stopped in for a spur-of-the-moment pastry and coffee. The selection was great, but I'm a fan of Napoleons - once I saw them on the menu, my decision was made. The pastry was great, as was the coffee. Okay, so I love this place. Sometimes, I have to stop myself from driving thirty minutes just to get an eclair or a cream puff. Their eclairs are to die for. The ratio of pastry to custard cream to chocolate is perfection. I love baked goods and have been on a mission to find the best cream puff or eclair within a thirty minute drive from my house and La Maison is hands down the best. Their baked goods might be a little pricey, but I think they must use high quality ingredients - so definitely worth it. Also, very cute and clean. read more

Had the occasion to eat at the Bohemian Moon last week at a small party for Korean War Veterans. Food was great, but the real surprise was that the same people who own the restaurant own this bakery. It was only a five minute drive and to say it was well worth it, is an understatement. When you walk in you are greeted by 4 glass showcases full of the most beautiful pastries we had ever seen. The only thing better than looking at them was eating them. We took home almost one of everything that was in the showcases and wasn't disappointed by any of them. Wonderful cafe in an old house. Well decorated and very clean. We had two sandwiches. Turkey and mozzarella on a croissant was excellent. Fresh baked and delicious. Prices seem fair for some of the items sold. Some of the desserts in the glass case near the cash register looked old/dehydrated. One of the employees - very rude. We were looking at a menu for no more than 20 seconds. Out of the corner of my eye I see someone approach us. It was the cashier. She gestured to us as if to say 'well, what is taking so long?' and she asked in a slightly harsh tone "Have we decided what we want?" I would have left but we were next in line and our daughter was starving. Then when our order was ready she brought it to our table. Asked if she had placed the correct plate in front of me and left. She didn't say enjoy or let me know if you need anything. This wasn't our first encounter with this woman but will certainly be our last. Really the only good place around for sweets. They have a variety cookies and pasties. Croissants are very good. Almond Turks are another favorite. They also make sandwiches and other hot dishes. A friend and I happened upon this restaurant for breakfast while staying in Norwich for a conference. The food was delicious! We enjoyed it so much we returned the next morning for breakfast again. The oatmeal with cranberries was yummy the first morning and Day 2 I had an omelet with the spinach croissant - out of this world! I can't speak for their food at all but whatever you do don't order a cake for a wedding. They will insist on doing it their way. When my fiance was on the phone with the lady who owns the place she told her each of the things we wanted on the cake several times over when placing the order (what kind, how it was to be decorated ect...). The first time my fiance told her we wanted red velvet cake, I wasn't on the phone but I clearly heard her say we only do the cakes in vanilla, yellow or chocolate (I heard it because it was on speaker phone). To make a long story short, we met with the lady that took our order a couple days before the wedding (the wedding is going to be on 2/1/13), we sat down with her and discussed the details of the progress on the cake and were told that we were getting everything we asked for. During most of the conversation the lady never acknowledged what kind of cake it was. At the end of that conversation she said it was yellow cake in a quiet, fast, soft tone of voice that was like saying "I know this isn't what they wanted but hopefully they wont notice." I was so livid I couldn't even speak. My fiance spoke up and told the lady that it was suppose to be a red velvet cake and that she was told that several times during the phone call. All the lady could say was "Oh I'm so sorry I didn't hear you say that". What a bunch of BU!!$H*T. We left and needless to say we took our business somewhere else that was highly recommended by friends. They lost a good amount of money for her dishonesty. Seriously, what kind of bakery only has 3 options for a cake anyway? If the option we chose wasn't available she should've just said so! read more
