We was up in Hamilton, NY for a wedding this past weekend and all we heard about for places to grab breakfast was @flourandsalt and you will know where it is when you see the line!! We was third in line but the line definitely moved quickly the bagel sandwiches we got were soooo good & the chocolate babka bun was OTW!! So if your are ever In Hamilton put this on your list of stops. Also grab some coffee with everything else here it is a must as well!! The last time I had Flour and Salt was back in 2016 when they first opened their brick and mortar shop and it was my senior year of Colgate. With no surprise they are just as delicious as they were then. My dad and I stopped by on 4th of July and ordered an iced latte, cafe mocha, Emrys bagel sandwich on a rosemary salt bagel, and a build-your-own on a jalapeño cheddar bagel. The service was the same - friendly, helpful, smiling. The Peaks coffee was delicious. The bagel sandwiches are still the best I've had. I can't wait to stop at Colgate and Flour & Salt again (and this time sooner)! read more

This is the first time I've been to their bricks and mortar location which is apparently in a new building. If you're looking at old pictures trying to find the place, you'll be a little bit thrown off by the façade which used to be blue but is now red. They used to come to the Clinton farmers market which is where I discovered their amazing bagels; the black pepper and Parmesan is a particular stand out. When I went I got a dozen bagels, the chocolate Babka, a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, iced Americano and their specialty lemonade which was a blueberry rosemary blend. I wanted to try everything! The entire menu looked really good. I think they have some kinks to work out though, in the kitchen or with the staff who is processing the order. I ordered my bagel sandwich toasted but it did not come off that way. Also the egg was kind of cold and the cheese was not melted on top. Not a huge deal but definitely made the sandwich less enjoyable. My iced Americano was excellent but for whatever reason the barista put it in a hot drink cup rather than a cup for an iced drink so the cup was slowly disintegrating as I was drinking it. Again none these things are dealbreakers, the bagels are still delicious, the drinks were good and I would certainly give this place another chance if I was in the area. read more

The continental breakfast at our hotel was disappointing so we went across the street to fast food. I stopped in here later for coffee. Wish I had noticed it sooner! My partner ordered several breakfast sandwiches to go and said they were delicious. I only got an iced coffee and a hot latte. Enjoyed both. There were several different tempting pastries on display. A thirty minute detour from the highway, but a great pitstop for any trip. We were really surprised by the many breakfast sandwich options. There was a long Saturday line and most the students there were getting breakfast sandwiches. So we had to try one, but we were really there for the pastries and coffee. It was a good basic bacon egg and cheese on a bun sandwich. However, we weren't too overwhelmed by the flavor or texture of the bun used. It was just ok. The morning bun was to die for! Buy one of these and you will not be disappointed. It was the perfect combo of crunch, soft dough and sugary goodness. We grabbed the bagel of the day (black pepper and parm) and a salted rosemary bagel to go. We ate these the next day for breakfast. The bagels aged well. Still soft the following day. We liked both flavors, but overall the flavors seemed more like toppings. Basic plain bagel with ingredients placed on top. Would've been more pleasing to eat the rosemary bagel with the rosemary embedded within the bagel. read more

Yea we ate here every morning for a hockey camp. Rosemary salt bagel was the best bagel I've ever had. Everything is fresh made and the coffee is outstanding. The line moves quickly and is well worth the 5-10 min wait. Oh, and the people working here are like the nicest ever. She knew my name after the second day working the counter with hundreds of customers. Couldn't give them 6 stars or I would. And the baked goods...yea, those are unreal too. I'm late in getting this review in. Wow, the bagels here are out of this world tasty. Seriously. These are 9/10ths of a Long Island bagel - and that's saying a lot lol. Long Island bagels - few can compare, but Flour & Salt bagels are very close. Cookies were great here too - flavorful, well baked. And.....I can't say enough good stuff about the staff. we have had this place bookmarked and been stalking their yummy baked goods for months now. so when we decided to make a 15 min detour on a long drive to get it..it was worth it. Hypes: - we missed the morning bustle and hence the good popular things they are known for sold out ..but we tried to get a little bit of everything (what a carb loaded day) and it didn't last for five minutes. everything was devoured and my car wasn't left a mess..even the crumbs were eaten. - bread and rolls - fresh baked and soft. even in our chicken salad sandwich the brioche was warm and fluffy and went down like syrup. it MADE the sandwich even better (the chicken salad itself was good also) - they sold out of chocolate chip cookies bc we were late so we settled for some molasses cookies which were OMG a blessing. thin, soft, with the perfect amount of spice. - bagels - really good. we had an oatmeal raisin one. will have to come back for more - blueberry muffin - so i loved this. not overly sweet, good amount of crumble, perfect with my morning coffee i'm having the next day currently at this moment as i write this - chocolate cake - soft moist not too sweet not to dry and yummy. -solid cold brew - a perfect companion to our gluttony - COVID SAFE !! the host was super friendly and helpful, wore a mask, their takeout system is contactless with the plexiglass and efficient. Gripes: - none really ... just a fluke on our part when we decided to get the chipotle bagel which was a special of the day. it was SUPER spicy and left my lips burning. we will stick to the basic OGs next time. I really appreciate having a solid bagel sandwich option nearby as a college student, and it's even better that this business is owned by an alum of my school! I think I just had unrealistic expectations for a bagel in New York State. They aren't exactly the thick, 'NY specialty/ world's best' variety. Their bagels are smaller and less dense. The first time I came, I ordered an egg and cheese and was left wanting more both emotionally and physically -- I was let down and I could use more food. My favorite trip here fell on another weekend when I trekked down in a rainstorm for their fall special of a maple bacon, maple butter, egg and cheese (I don't remember the exact ingredients), but this was phenomenal. It had some character and they incorporated the right amount of maple into an otherwise savory dish. I have a customer service complaint, though, that accounts for most of my 3-star review. The first time I was there, I ordered an iced mocha. The drink came out hot. Even though I hate confrontation, I (respectfully) said that I had wanted it iced. My iced preference was even on my receipt (get this -- I had to pay extra for it!!) and the barista just stared at me! The other attendant didn't do much either and it stayed silent for a second, and since I didn't want to cause a scene, I had to say "well I guess I'll just take it." The other attendant thanked me for this and the barista continued to deny her mistake. I tend to be forgiving, but this was astonishingly poor customer service. Not only was I uncomfortable in the interaction, I lost money (a matter of less than 50 cents probably, but still!!)! When I return to F&S in the spring, I can't wait to explore more of their baked goods. read more

Known for its delicious bagels, this cute local shop that started only a year ago by Colgate alums is just the right place to go for morning breakfast. I ordered the rosemary salt bagel with regular cream cheese (for a few cents more, you have the option to buy the flavored cream cheese), which is only a few dollars. I love that they are generous with their cream cheese portion! The bagel was tasty, fresh, toasted as requested, and served quickly, despite a really long line (about 20 people in line and a 20-minute wait) on a Sunday morning. The rosemary and salt content was just right--not too rosemary-y or salty. There's even a Little Free Library, if you're familiar with those--take a book, leave a book from their bookshelf by the exit. Highly recommended!! read more

This bakery was such a nice addition to Hamilton and was a highlight of our trips home. However, nothing they sell there is worth the terrible customer service. I was not surprised at all when I read some of the other reviews here. While the details of our disappointing saga with F&S are lengthy, the bottom line is that the staff/owners were shockingly rude to my mother who missed picking up her bagels because she was stuck on an outing with fussy grandchildren. They denied her her bagels (which she had already paid for), claiming that the bakery needed to "protect the quality and reputation" of their bagels and so can not sell day-old bagels. This was despite the fact that they used to sell day-olds, and recently added them to the menu again. They were just as rude to my husband when he tried to sort it out in person on her behalf. There was nothing clearly stated in the ordering process that missed pick-up orders will not be available to pick up the next day. When I commented on their FB page about the hypocrisy of the menu change (listing the addition of the day-old bagels), their solution was to block me from their page. A simple explanation or acknowledgment of the misunderstanding, apology to my family members... or even holding their ground and defending their position with respect would have gone a long way. It could have gained them a lifetime of continued year-round business. Instead, they chose to be so unrelentingly rude that I now take every opportunity to make sure that people know what they might be facing if they patronize this bakery and have any issues that require customer service. The amazing flavor of respect beats the taste of even the best bagel (which you won't really find there, although some are better than the alternatives in town). read more

In a land of 10,000 artisanal bakeries this is the crown jewel. Clearly a popular stop for college students it's the perfect hipster hangout. Familiar and creative sandwiches. Examples of creative sandwiches are the McDuck (duck confit and egg on a bagel), & the bahn mi bagel. Their salads are also surprisingly delicious. The best thing to get here are the deserts. The maple scone was incredible. Their best bagels are the salt bagel and the rosemary bagels you can't go wrong with either. It's worth getting here early and being very patient because the line is always ridiculous. It takes us on average thirty minutes to get to the counter here. read more

Wow, someone finally opened a business in the old Annex space (which had been vacant for about 15 years and was pretty much never open even when it was operating). I've only gotten a chance to stop in here once, but I was impressed - with the captive Colgate market, it'd be easy for a bagel joint to serve crap and still make a killing (like most of the local breakfast places when I was in school). But Flour and Salt has good bagels (nice crust, good chew), and a bunch of interesting sandwiches. I enjoyed the McDuck (duck egg, cheddar, and pork belly from RBQ). Since Roger's closed, the village hasn't had much in the way of breakfast sandwich options; now I'm looking forward to Flour and Salt on my next visit to Hamilton. read more

I was there today and it was EMPTY, there may have be one other person there. I ordered a bagel, and the lady handed it to me in a bag, I said, "I'm sorry, I asked for it to be heated." She replied - in the presence of at least two other employees standing there doing literally nothing - that it would COST ME MONEY to have her warm up the plain bagel for me. So thank you for the material that I will use for our next staff retreat at the company I work at - "How to lose customers." I will never go back to that place. Had she simply taken it back and said "sure!" . . . I would be a loyal customer. Its that easy. Its that simple. This crew doesn't get it. read more

This is the one and only breakfast place I looked forward to every time I went to visit my daughter at Colgate from NYC. My favorite bagel is the rosemary salt bagel! Honestly, all of their bagel choices are great. I can't have seeds so I stick with the seedless or go wild with the rosemary salt. I recommend the Jonsey sandwich. It's just so delish! During the winter visits, I ordered their hot chocolate; another favorite over their coffee. Coffee is great, but hot chocolate is FRESH!!! Just dropped by last week and didn't get a chance to order, because the line was crazy long what with 2020 graduates and families. My daughter is a 2020 graduate who just celebrated her graduation (2022). I will miss Flour and Salt! read more

This bakery just opened in Hamilton, NY and I wanted to check it out. We had heard their bagels were good but when we got there they were already sold out. I guess they are good then! My boyfriend had the oatmeal raisin cookie and I had the vegan berry vanilla muffin. I thought both were pretty good. I also had a cup of Peaks Coffee. Peaks Coffee Company is located in Cazenovia, NY. I'll have to visit their shop next because their coffee is nothing shy of amazing. I had my coffee black. Flour & Salt is really cute and rustic inside. They have other menu items as well like sandwiches. I look forward to trying more of their items. The owner is very nice. read more
