Great location at Beaulieu harbor. Food was delicious. Drinks were great. View over the sea and the marina with all the boats.

An excellent seafood restaurant. I was a bit wary as they charge tourist prices and the restaurant…read morehas a storied reputation. But I had a delicious lunch and I would recommend ordering from one of their prix fixe menus. I had the fish soup which came with a generous portion of a rich aoli that had a nice heat to it. The aoli came with two types of bread, one was a fresh semi-sourdough and the other were slices of toasted baguette. The toasted baguette, surprisingly, turned out to be the best and most delicious option combined with the aoli and the soup. The soup itself was deeply rich and earthy. It had a touch of curry and turmeric in it and it felt restorative... a fisherman's chicken soup. The soup was a meal in itself. For the plat principal I had the fish of the day which was beautifully prepared. The filet sat on a bed of nearly caramelized fennel and the accompanying sauce had rich but light touches of tomatoes and mangos and pine nuts. I have seen this kind of salsa accompaniment fail in so many fish dishes but here it was completely balanced and successful. The dessert I chose was forgettable. The service is completely masculine, it reminded me a bit of the old white table cloth restaurants in New York City where it almost feels like you've stumbled into a private sports club. But these gentlemen were pros and the service was excellent.

The views are fantastic as this restaurant is located right on the water! There is lots of seating…read moreboth indoors and outdoors. Service was fine as well. The food was so-so...the rockfish soup that so many had recommended was honestly my least favorite part - it was way too salty and the mix of spices/flavors just was not for me. The seared white fish was decent. The other dish we ordered was also nothing to write home about. Be careful not to get this restaurant confused with the other restaurant that has the same name in Chateauneuf du Pape.

La Trinquette's owner actively supports local folk and jazz bands and strives to give them wider visibility. And oh yeah, the food. I love their mussels (Moules) and thought I would never order anything else on the menu. During our last visit the server encouraged my wife and I to try their signature dish, the whole fish. Although I could not understand her description in French I could see her enthusiasm for this dish, and enthusiasm does not require a translation! So we both ordered the whole fish. I'm originally from Seattle and now live in San Diego so I've eaten quite a bit of seafood. Honest folks my wife and I rated this as our favorite fish dinner, ever! Lastly, La Trinquette sits quietly, somewhat undiscovered alongside Villefranche marina. The main tourist zone and train station are east of the castle. La Trinquette is just west of the castle. Although easy walking distance most tourists don't venture past the castle. Better for me as I can dine with the locals!
