I highly recommend getting the lunch plate or for dinnertime, getting the Middle Eastern plate, so you can try a variety of dishes. The levant sandwiches are especially heavenly with very soft bread and a yogurt-like filling; so refreshing! The chicken pomegranate is so tender and tasty too and I love the Armenian potato salad. There is complimentary pita bread as well. Portion sizes are generous. The restaurant has nice theming and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Salmon Kebab Dinner and this might officially be my new go-to spot for Mediterranean food. The salmon was cooked perfectly -- tender, flavorful, and not dry at all. The squeeze of lemon on top made it taste even zestier and really brought everything together. My only tiny suggestion would be to add more lemon. Lemon is relatively inexpensive, so an extra slice (or one thick wedge, like a generous 1/4 of a lemon) would really elevate it even more. The Armenian potato salad was AMAZING. I honestly prefer it over any traditional potato salad I've had. It was fresh, well-seasoned, and had so much flavor. The Rice Pilaf was also delicious -- I'm not sure what all the ingredients were, but every bite had great texture and seasoning. You can tell care goes into it. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and full of flavor. I would've loved one more piece of pita bread to go with it, but what they provided was still really good. Overall, I rarely give perfect reviews, but this is easily a 4.5 out of 5 for me. Since Yelp doesn't allow half stars, they're getting the full five. Mmm La Med! A quintessential Berkeley staple for students, alumni, and locals alike- this restaurant on College Ave boasts a hearty menu with Mediterranean fare. After catching a movie at the Elmwood Theater, my gal pals and I went to La Mediterranee for dinner. They have heat lamps outdoors but we got a spot indoors pretty easily for a Sunday night. We ordered dishes family style- we got a small combination dips to start; my friends enjoyed the hummus and I loved the baba ghanoush! They also give a generous serving of pita bread to accompany. For the meal, we shared an order of falafel salad, chicken pomegranate, Lebanese beef kibbeh, and some fillo pastries. The portions were HUGE- the dinner entrees all came with hummus and your choice of side. We chose the Armenian potato salad and a bowl of the avgolemono soup. We also ordered a full carafe of their sangria, which was perfect for 5! Overall, we had a very filling meal, complete with leftovers, and it was a wonderful way to end the week. read more

You don't have to sell me on La Mediterranee. I've been a longtime fan of both their San Francisco locations on Fillmore and Noe. I had delivery from this place during the COVID days but never physically been to the Elmwood location until Jamie W and I casually strolled the 'hood on a lazy Saturday afternoon when we didn't feel like going home to cook. We decided to grab a late lunch here, conveniently a bigger space than the other locations. I always order the same dish, the $17.95 Middle Eastern Plate, because it's basically the restaurant's greatest hits on one plate. Along with their housemade hummus and fresh pita, the dish featured a choice of three mini-entrees. I went for the Chicken Cilicia Fillo, Spinach & Feta Fillo, and Lamb Lule (Photo 9). Jamie had the same chicken and lamb and the Levant Sandwich (Photo 8). This was definitely the way to go for lunch because it's not only $3-4 cheaper than the dinner price but it was pretty tasty in bar bite portions. Jamie went for the Vegan Lentil Soup on the side, while I went for the green salad. I have to say for all the edible riches, the service was unfortunately rather spotty. Still worth a visit. The service has never been outstanding, which is why I give it a 4, but certainly decent enough for me to eat there every now and then. Not often, but when I get a craving. The food is good. Very cozy Mediterranean food spot in Berkeley! Food was on point. I got to try the chicken Shawarma sandwich and it had an incredible flavor. They serve it with a bunch of rice and vegetables and like a little mini salad which was nice. They also give you a lot of bread and hummus as an appetizer, which is nice. My five-star rating is for Tallulah (sp?), an outstanding server who truly saved my visit. I've been to this restaurant once before, a few years ago, and had such a frustrating experience with the service that I didn't return until today. Unfortunately, much of what bothered me then is still happening now. When I came in to order dinner for four, I wanted to explore my options and was handed a catering menu by a very young server. After spending time reviewing it and asking questions, I later learned--thanks to Tallulah--that catering orders can't be placed without the catering manager present. In other words, the menu I had been given wasn't even an option. Tallulah was the only one who took the time to explain the situation clearly, help me find a solution, and make sure my needs were met. She was efficient, professional, and genuinely hardworking--while others lingered at the counter, disengaged. The supervisor on duty, unfortunately, didn't step in to guide the inexperienced server or use the moment as a teaching opportunity. It honestly feels like the management here prioritizes hiring very young, inexperienced staff without giving them proper training or accountability. The result is a chaotic, unprofessional atmosphere. The only bright spot was Tallulah, who carried herself with the competence and care this restaurant desperately needs more of. I tipped her 20% because she earned every bit of it. She deserves recognition, but the ownership seriously needs to address the management and training issues that make this place feel like a circus. read more

Wow! I love ordering from here and never have anything negative to say about this place until today when I brought my parents here for the first time so they can try it out. We found a table and wanted to sit outside, we were able to sit down when my mom noticed the chairs were cleaned at all. She put her hand on it and there was dust all over her hand. She was wearing white pants so she walked over to the host to let him know. He gave my mom and attitude but eventually came out with a rag to clean it and he never came back to dry it even though we asked him if he was going to come back to dry it. He just looked at us and walked to the back. Thankfully the girl who was our server was nice and answered my parents questions about the menu. The food unfortunately fell flat today. I get that it happens sometimes but after the bus boy treated us, I think it just changed the vibe despite how sweet our server was. I've had the pleasure of featuring La Mediterranee Catering twice--once for a gathering with out-of-town colleagues and again for a fundraiser they generously contributed to. In both cases, they absolutely upleveled the experience. One guest, who had literally just flown in from Greece and was skeptical at first, was shocked at how delicious the food was! La Mediterranee takes a fresh twist on what you think of as Mediterranean--familiar yet elevated, and absolutely addictive (I'm salivating while writing this). The dolmas were fresh and vibrant, the hummus silky and perfectly spiced, and the Chicken Cilicia Fillos--with that subtle cinnamon twist in their melt-in-your-mouth filo--set a new standard for comfort food. I've been here during lunch time which is my favorite because you can get soup or salad with your meal. My go to is the Middle Eastern Plate. It comes with hummus and you can choose between soup or potato salad. The lemon chicken soup is always my choice since it is delicious. With the plate, you can get 3 choices from their menu. I always make sure to get their pomegranate chicken, and the levant sandwich. I try something different for my third choice but the fillo never disappoints. I've eaten here on multiple occasions and recommend the chicken pomegranate dish. The chicken is always tender and the pomegranate adds a nice sweetness to the dish. My only knock on the dish is that, other than the pita bread, it can be one dimensional in terms of texture and too soggy if you get it with a side of rice and salad. That said, I'd normally give this place at least 4 stars but the service tonight was atrocious. I came in after a movie and had a nearly empty water bottle. My greeter who seated me asked me for my drink order and I asked for a regular water. He looked at me, a bit annoyed, and said "that's your water right?" (pointing at my nearly empty water bottle) So I repeated, I'll have a regular water. Wow, the quality of the food at this location has really gone downhill. I had the falafel salad today, and the falafels weren't at all crisp on the outside. I used to love their spanakopita but the phyllo wrapping was soggy, not the least bit crispy, nor was it hot. Maybe the cooks are too focused on speed? The waiter was pleasant, but so slow that I had to take my check up to the unattended cash register to pay. One of my formerly favorite go-to lunch spots was a huge disappointment.
