La Memphré bookended our trip to the Eastern Townships, being our first and last food stops in Magog. This popular brewery was definitely worth the revisit for their high quality food and drinks, with a major perk being that it is open everyday and doesn't close between mealtimes. The Tall Man and I came during semi-off hours, first for a late lunch and later for an afternoon snack/drink. They have a large outside deck with a great view of the lake, but we opted to sit in their cozy dining room both times. We visited with baby in tow, first with a stroller and once without. The accessible entrance was not very obvious (we noticed it only after our second visit) and it was covered in snow. There are several steps leading to the porch and main entrance. The host was gracious enough to find a table that could fit a stroller next to it, but that was made easier by our off-hours visit. The staff is very friendly and most are pretty fluent in both English and French. We ordered in French the first time around, but by our second trip our language skills and brains were a bit worn out, so we were thankful our server cheerfully switched to English. They all gave us great recommendations, and everything we had was quite tasty. Think elevated brewpub than bar food. Drinks-wise, the Tall Man equally enjoyed La Pointe Merry (IPA) and La Kilt (Scotch ale). I opted for their non-alcoholic options and was happy with my Quebec-made kombucha and gin and tonic mocktail. Both came in cans or bottles, and I ended up taking the rest of my kombucha to go. Instead of ordering full entrees, we opted for a spread of small plates. The cod bites (bouchées de morue) were excellent, crisply fried with soft, flaky fish inside and a killer dipping sauce. The kiddo is just starting to eat solid foods and quite enjoyed the fish. The onion rings (nounounes rings) were also a hit. We also enjoyed the duck drumlettes (pilons de canard) and the fries (frites). Note the fries are made French style and not crispy (as opposed to what's usually served in American restaurants ironically as "French" fries). We will definitely be back! I did eat gluten on this trip as a periodic treat, but am usually gluten free. They didn't seem to have too many GF options on their menu, but I would come back to try their entrees and see if I could make it work. read more

We came here in the summer on a Saturday around 12, surprisingly we didn't have to wait for a while to get an outdoor patio seat overlooking the river. The food is pretty good, loved the variety of poutine options, we got the one with chicken nuggets, loved by my daughter. The burgers are good. Calamari is a bit average, the sun dried tomato sauce is good though. Fish and chips is pretty good, huge piece of fish fillet and very fresh. read more

I came here looking for a cold beer and relaxed environment, this place fit the bill! This is a brewpub on the main strip in Magog. Great beer, tasty food, friendly staff. I got a burger and fries that hit the spot and came with a big portion size. Nice view of the lake from their patio. When I went for dinner there was about a 30 minute wait and we were invited to sit at the bar during that time. The inside felt pretty cozy. Staff were attentive, I'd definitely be back! read more

Super cozy spot right in town beside the marina. Walked in to a warm fire place going in the middle of the restaurant with leather lounge type chairs everywhere. We started off with the cheese dip which had bacon and onions. It came with warm bread it really wasn't my favourite tasted a bit like pea soup. We then had the beef jerky and cheese, beef jerky was good and I hate beef jerky and the cheese was fresh and not to salty. It went well with the picture of white beer we got which was very fresh like brand new. We finished off with the 6 duck wings in Louisiana sauce that came with blue cheese dipping sauce. It was okay but the blue cheese sauce was watered down way to much wish they didn't do that. We decided to end the day with a rick Ross to try out. It was supposed to be Jameson, triple sec and lemonade. We switch it for bourbon because I love bourbon lemonade. It was good but needed a second shot. "And that comes with your choice of four different types of mayonnaise." Yes, it does -- because of course, and because Canada. Don't let the lack of direct ocean access fool you, this was the best fish and chips i've ever had. Better than Florida, Cape Cod, Portland, Mystic...and all ocean type places in between. The flakiest, most gigantic, tender yet super crunchy fillet paired perfectly with their house tartar sauce and cole slaw. The fries and mayo...let's just say I did not miss having ketchup. See? I was so excited about the fish and chips I skipped over everything else. To drink? Microbrews. I blindly chose my first beer, it was reminiscent of a Blue Moon, but hoppier and a bit crisper. I loved it, so I wanted to try more. I asked for an IPA, they had four. I asked the waitress what her favorite was, and she said she'd bring me a taste of all four. This "taste" ended up looking more like an unprompted flight than anything resembling a sample. If I poured all four into a pint glass it would have easily been about 3/4 full. I took some time sipping my "samples" and chose what she described as their hoppiest one, which to me tasted the smoothest. It had the taste profile of something from The Alchemist in Vermont, just lighter in color and a little (just slightly) lighter tasting. No matter what you choose, this place does beer quite well. You will not be disappointed. Beyond the fish and chips, we also ordered a burger and the french onion soup. Both were amazing, but I have to rave about the soup, because it was delicious and gooey in every way you'd expect, and as it was -4 outside, it really, really hit the spot. DO find yourself in Magog on a winter weekend, and indulge in soup, fish, beer, and anything else on the menu. After what will likely be a pretty filling meal, cross the street and take a walk around Lake Memphremagog. If it's anytime close to sunset, stick around and take it all in. read more

Great microbrews and a hopping atmosphere. We ordered a few starters and one main. They have a very interesting (good) menu with lots of different items you don't normally see at other brassieres. Things like duck wings, cauliflower fritters, and others I can't remember. (I need to start taking pics of the menus to make my life easy). On the beer front they had a variety of light, heavy, fragrant, blond, red, stout. We ordered 2 different tastings, luckily my wife liked the light and fragrant ones, where I prefer the heavier higher alcohol ones. I would definitely go back. What a great brew pub! Stylish but comfortable, central fireplace, big windows, long leather benches, a second floor with a view of the river, cool bar stools made of kegs, all kinds of neat things going on. The kitchen closes at 10pm so when we arrived in town, starving, to discover that our big city assumptions were likely to leave us hungry, Le Memphre made us nachos. We did the tasting flight and there were some interesting things going on in there, and some funky things, but the IPA was really clear and fresh and sharp and super nice, we drank several more pints of that guy over the weekend. The staff were universally friendly and prompt and easy going. We never ended up eating a full meal here but I'd go back to try it, looked several notches above your usual pub food. read more

This place gets A+ for presentation! Went on a Friday right when it opened around 11:30am for lunch and it didn't take long for more and more people to arrive. It was a beautiful sunny day so we sat outside with a view of the lake/docks. It's too bad there is a busy road in between, though. I shared the hippie burger with my mom for a light lunch before hiking, and it definitely satisfied my hunger. The burger was vegetarian and tasted alright...I don't usually eat vegetarian so have nothing to compare it to. My mom loved it and I found it tasted pretty good but different than what I'm used to eating. It came with a green salad which was delicious. The coleslaw was good if you like coleslaw (I'm not a huge fan). I liked that everything seemed healthy and gavel energy rather than making me want to lay down afterwards. The location is good as it's near one of the Main Streets so you can walk and do some window shopping at the same time. I would go back to this place and try something else on the menu :) read more

Glad that the hotel restaurant was closed as it is Monday night. The red ale was really nice and smooth. I ordered the salmon which was prepared over potatoes with a nice salad over the top of it. What a cute and cozy restaurant in Magog. On a Sunday afternoon it was pretty busy and you can imagine why :-) The burger I had was delicious, fresh and well seasoned. J'avoue qu'avant d'entrer, nous avons pris le temps de demander au serveur si nous pouvions passer avec un tout petit chihuahua dans sa cage que nous avions l'intention de placer sous notre table - ce que nous avons fait dans de nombreux autres endroits dans toute la province, et que, comme c'était le cas, tous les autres établissements aujourd'hui nous ont dit qu'ils pouvaient le faire, même s'ils n'avaient pas de tables libres immédiatement -. Bien que le serveur avait tout à fait le droit de nous refuser l'entrée et que les lois canadiennes et québécoises étaient de son côté, sa colère et sa violence étaient totalement injustifiées. Cette simple demande a suffi au serveur pour nous traiter comme si nous lui avions demandé d'utiliser son établissement pour vendre du crack. Parmi de nombreuses autres phrases mémorables, il nous a dit qu'il n'aimait pas notre attitude et à notre réponse que nous ne savions pas de quelle attitude il parlait, il a répondu sur un ton exalté de nous le dire à notre visage. Quelle a été notre première réplique qui a déclenché tout cela, me demanderez-vous ? "Ne vous inquiétez pas ! Nous comprenons parfaitement, nous irons chercher ailleurs". Une simple question posée par des clients potentiels qui cherchent à laisser leur argent dans un établissement ne devrait jamais justifier une telle réponse. Si servir les gens n'est pas votre truc, faites autre chose. Tout gérant qui se respecte ferait bien de prévenir son personnel et de leur rappeler les principes de base de la manière de traiter les clients et le public en général. Have you ever been to a place and thought to your surprise that you should have reserved first. It was my thought when I went therr. We were there around 7h30 and the place was packed. We had to wait 30mins to get a place to sit. But in general, it was worth the wait. The beer taster is a must. You will probably not like all beers but you will discover some for sure. For food I had la cloche et l'idiot. It's 2 mini pork hamburger. One is pulled pork and the other is pork pieces. Both were really good but the pulled pork one had an extra edge. The coleslaw is home made and you can taste it. The downside. My girlfriend had a hamburger Le Monstre. The burger was good except for one important part. The meat was dry. She also had an onion soup. The soup was good because it was hot. But it was not the best onion soup. There was not enough onions. The bread in it though was baguette which is a good thing. The other downside is that some of the chairs are made for people for small waists so be careful when sitting. read more

Returned to ask why we weren't seated, hostess was dumbfounded. While she went to look for a manager, one happened to see us looking irate. When we explained what happened she took no responsibility or acknowledgement, said we misunderstood (without consulting her hostess nor being present). Terrible management and pitiful service. We happily took our service elsewhere, and will check out the beautiful Italian restaurants Trattoria and Pinocchio or the Pizzeria instead. read more

A good gastropub. Very reasonably priced for what you get. I was there with my wife and a friend and we paid less for dinner and a few beers than we did for lunch at a place a few doors down. Before ordering dinner, we had a few drinks and ordered nachos to tie us over until dinner. The nachos were really unspectacular. I think they were heated up in a microwave as a majority of the tortillas were soggy and flavorless. For dinner, I had the duck burger and it wasn't good nor was it bad, it was adequate. I thought it would be more like a magret, but it was more like a burger, that had a ducky taste. It is hard to explain, but if I had to order it again, I very well might. For desert we all shared a Pouding Chomeur and this I would order again and again and again and again and....... One of the best I have ever had. read more

Went in one Monday evening. Small dinner for two was the plan. Grab a small pint and some food. It didn't disappoint. The ribs were what I had. Tasty and just the right balance of meat and sauce. Fries and slaw were the sides. She had the duck salad. A large portion it was and satisfying. If I had to make one improvement it would have to be their White beer. The one I had on the menu was called Le Grande Dame. It was very watery, no real taste to it. BUT, they ere eager to please, got me another one, colder but tasted the same and after that got me another type of beer instead! That's great service and no attitude! Recently we took a drive through the Eastern Townships and ended up in Magog. I opened up Yelp to see what looked good in the area and Le Memphré caught my eye. Microbrew + food sounded perfect for a rainy Saturday afternoon. We were a bit unsure about bringing a toddler to a microbrewery, but they had a kids menu so we figured we'd be fine. Well, any place where I can have a good beer, eat some tasty food and do so with my kid in tow is a great place! I went with a tasting paddle and was I glad I did! There were some really tasty beers, and a few I didn't quite care for, but that's the fun of tasting them all. The food was fine. Nothing amazing, just decent pub food. I had the fish and chips, and my partner had the pimped up poutine. Our kid was happy eating ketchup . . . I mean eating fries with ketchup (ketchup is a whole food group to our kid!). I'd be interested to come back and try a bunch of apps instead of ordering mains, there seemed to be some interesting choices. Two thumbs up for having a choice of booster or high chair for our kid. This makes life so much easier when my kid is at least a little bit restrained by a booster seat, and makes everyone else's meals that much more enjoyable too! I didn't notice a changing table in the bathroom, but I didn't ask if there was another bathroom with one either. read more

When is a brewpub really a gastropub, or a gastropub really a brewpub? When it is La Memphré, aptly named after Quebec's own Loch Ness Monster, a chimera that changes according to the viewer's desires. La Memphré captures the elusive mix of comfortable sophistication, the upscale that does not take itself too seriously. In winter, the atmosphere is one of après-ski with high-tech wood stoves to congregate about; in summer a swimsuit resort overlooking the lake. Their food follows suit with flavorful, whimsical twists. "La Poutine Pimpée" (Pimped Poutine!) is the classic Quebéçois with the difference of a homemade duck confit. Their burgers equally creative, from the vegetarian Hippie Burger to a delicious "Berger Fou" lamb burger. An adequate selection of appetizers, salads, and house desserts rounds out the menu. Microbrews from La Memphré are creative and differentiated from the standard regional drafts. La Swomptueuse, a spiced beer, can take on interesting variations, particularly the brewing using espresso for a balanced acidity. Their Ganesha is a serviceable IPA. In spite of a good start, the microbrews are still not strong enough to make La Memphré a destination just for the beer. Then again, its the overall atmosphere and welcome that I will return for. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel. It is under construction and not very appealing from the outside. The place was packed to the walls and there was a very happy atmosphere inside. All the servers were excellent and very bilingual. We had the warm duck confit salad with apples and walnuts ($18), it was perfect. We also had the cloche and idiot (two sliders with different kinds of pork) ($14) and frites. The frites were done to perfection with crispy outside and soft insides. The buns of the sliders were a little dry and the meat could have been more plentiful. To note there was a party of 17 at the table next to us and the entire wait staff at the restaurant bought the food up so almost everyone was served at the same time. Very impressive. I've been to this place a few times now so yeah it's about time I write something. It's clearly your better-than-average pub food and being in the area you can find duck cooked a few different ways (try the wings, the're oh-myyyy!). The beers are good canadian microbrews - nothing exciting but not bad at all. Staff is always friendly even when super busy and without any arrogance. We've come up to visit Magog a few times, and this is one of our favorite places. The place can get busy, but service was good even when packed. Beer selection is great, their line of beers from light to dark was good. You can do the flight and get tasting size of each, definitely worth it. Food-wise the selection goes beyond basic bar grub. On a busy Friday night my lover and I were told we could order while we waited for a table to open. Escorted upstairs we brought a couple of decent IPAs to a seat and were waited on almost immediately. The food was outstanding (sriracha cod bits, fried calamari, French onion soup and clam and fish chowder). We stayed for coffee and dessert (brownie with vanilla ice cream) and loved that as well. This place has a gigantic menu, it's really hard to choose what you want if you aren't already craving something. The cocktail menu looks delicious as well, I chose a drink called Le Candy Shop which was super yummy. They also have a long beer list and a tasting platter available if you can't choose. They have duck wings, which I was super excited about since I'm allergic to chicken, also super good. My friend and I both chose a burger to share. We chose Le Berger Fou ( a lamb burger) and El Gringo (a pork burger). They were both very tasty and different from the normal beef burger and the French fries were awesome. The service was quick and friendly. We sat outside on their patio next to the water but the inside decor also was very nice. I assume on busy summer nights they have a bartender in their outside bar setup. I definitely recommend stopping by this place if you are in the Magog area...
