Brasserie Dieu du Ciel was one of them, and it just so happened we were in its vicinity after our Mile End food tour concluded. That being said, we made our way over. While I am not a beer person myself, I'll have a round or two if I'm with a group, and can appreciate a good brewery. My first impression of Dieu du Ciel was just that - the vibes were on walking in. The space is pretty large - kinda separated into semi- compartmentalized spaces with tables throughout. There's not much decor, but medium-toned woods throughout which gave it a sort of upscale feel. They offer a food menu, but we were just here for drinks. They have a really wide selection of beer - again, I'm no connoisseur, but I could tell that the selection was way more than other breweries I've been to. I ended up getting a cider for the first round and a stout for my second round - both very good. Service was great, and overall we enjoyed our time at Dieu du Ciel. Their selection and comfortable setting made it a standout brewery for me out of the ones I've visited in Montreal - I wouldn't hesitate to return.

We wanted to hit some of their top breweries. A friend who had been last year said his favorite was Idletyme so we hit their first. We wandered through the inside areas in to the back area. That's the spot. Underneath the canopy of trees there sits a long wooden bar. The vibe that day was ideal with the sunlight cutting through the leaves. I got their pilsner and it was the best beer of the trip. An excellent subtle tasty golden beverage. We moved on shortly after to the next spot but I had to agree that Idletyme was the spot. I plan to make it back to Stowe again soon, and Idletyme will be one of my first stops.

Brutopia is practically next door to our temporary Montreal headquarters, so I suspect I will be conducting extensive research here over the next two weeks. Brutopia is much bigger than it first appears. Once inside, there are multiple rooms with different types of seating, giving it that cozy, rambling pub feeling where you could easily find your own little corner and settle in for the evening. But despite the rain, Mum and Dad decided we should investigate the upstairs outdoor patio. Excellent decision. It's a really cool space with a huge colorful mural, hanging plants and a slightly greenhouse-y feel. Add in the fact that they sometimes have live music, and I can already tell this is going to become one of our neighborhood hangouts. Mum ordered a Caesar salad with bacon. I would like everyone to focus on one particular word in that sentence. BACON. I positioned myself appropriately. I stared. I waited. We also split a poutine - we opted for the popcorn chicken one which was tasty. Everyone was really friendly, and we were even talking it up with a fellow patron who was also from New York. Service was great, and although it was only a short stay, I had a good experience at Brutopia. I wouldn't hesitate to return next time I'm in the area.
