Visiting the park as an adult no doubt brought back fond memories. The park still offers that green open space with mature trees, but new is the terrific community garden. I thought that was very cool. The playground equipment is closed for repair, as of this review, and they offer a small fenced off dog park area. Their plenty of parking and good restroom facilities on sight. The best part of this park is definitely the open space and hills and such. They still offer swimming lessons during the summer. The downside that I experienced today is that too many parents treat it as daycare, while they sit and doom scroll on their phones the entire time rather than watch their own children. When I was there there was only one young lady who was working, and she was doing what she could in terms of cleaning and helping guests. The 4 and under area seemed to be overran by kids who seemed older than 4 and were rough housing. Did not feel safe to have my 1 year old playing in the same vicinity. Children possibly between the ages of 5-7 walking on the ledge of the ball pit area and jumping onto the inflatable obstacle course. I was worried if they lost their balance walking on the ledge they would've landed on my daughter who was sat playing in the ball pit. One older boy, around 5-6 years old forcefully moved my 1 year old's hand from an item they both wanted, and parents nowhere to be found or redirect the behavior. So, I instead moved my daughter to a different area. One parent seemed to have stayed on his computer with headphones in the ENTIRE time while we were there, and I never saw him get up to check on his children the hour that we were there. Safety should be the priority for everyone and parents sitting there staring at a screen is totally unfair to the parents who are near their children the entire time, as this place claims it should be. We did enjoy it, though it seemed more stressful trying to make sure the other older children didn't accidentally hurt my child while their parents' face remained glued to a screen.

What is awesome is you pay for the day and enter in and out as much as you would like. You can bring in food and drinks just not "party size" which makes sense! A couple of the kids had a minor accident and she made sure to go out of her way checking in on the kids asking if we needed anything and even offering ice packs. I was in need of a restroom so I turned at the first road after and that led to another, smaller parking area. I parked there, found the restroom I needed, then walked around a little bit. The park is on a slope. There is a covered area for family or company picnics@ some sort of a ball court. I walked down the slope to the other parking area. A dog would find plenty to sniff around at, but I didn't see much so I headed back to my truck. The parking area started filling. Some cars and vans with their clients, on outings. Some guy parked next to me was talking to himself and dumped what looked like grocery store dumpster finds out behind his vehicle, I guess to go through them. And commenting on stuff in my direction. Ok, time to go. 10 am by then so I made a mental note to come early again next time.

The area looked very family friendly, lots of shade, and the grassy areas looked perfect for dogs to run around. I read in another review that dogs aren't allowed there but don't think I saw the sign during our visit there, so might have missed it. The dogs that were there that day were quite friendly and no one seemed to mind. There were two pavilion areas towards the left of the park which were well shaded where parties can be hosted. The park is small but has what is needed. There are BBQ areas and picnic tables as well as some grass and a small playground. There is also some parking available in a lot but you can also park on the street. The playground is fenced in which I really liked but it also has to be fenced in because this park is right on the street, and it's a busy one with a lot of speeders. I was very aware of the closure to the playground ensuring everyone who came and went closed it behind them and if not going to it immediately to make sure it got closed. The playground equipment is small but had some slides the kids liked and a few swings. There are also 2 stationary play cars my boys loved so much. Although the boys had fun here we won't come back because of how close this is to the road. If we aren't in the playground area and we wanted to have a picnic it would be a constant worry and I wouldn't be able to let me kids get more than an arms reach away from me. Went back to the park proper, made a left towards YMCA and recognized the blue, green painted courts below eye level parallel to the freeway. Almost went to Big Rock in Santee this morning which has eight dedicated pickleball courts but more players. La Mesita on the other hand, has the same number of pickleball courts, four of which are newly resurfaced. They have a smaller crowd which means shorter wait times, some good shade, but adds four miles to my drive - a small price to pay to feed my quasi-addiction. It only took 2.5 hours to meet my minimum daily game quota of four challenging matches and I didn't encounter any aggro ball smashers. This is the ninth East County pickleball venue I have played at and can easily become one of my favorites.
