My husband and I had not been there since before the pandemic. We would always order shrimp or chicken fajitas. They were always on point, well seasoned and sizzling. However, last night we ordered shrimp fajitas and they were soggy. There was literally no seasoning. They were very bland. The salsa was runny and bland. The chips were tough and not salted. The reason I'm giving it a three instead of one is because the margarita was very very good. I had a top shelf. Margarita and I cannot begin to explain how really good it was. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. The ambience was good. I think next time I go if I go again, I'm going to bring some of my own seasoning to spice it up a bit. read more

Had dinner at La Mex with my family. We started by ordering 3 regular margaritas (12 oz, medium size). The service was very good. Our waitress was cordial and attentive. The salsa is very bland and watery. The food was very average for an authentic Mexican restaurant. We were shocked when we got the bill. We were charged $60 for the 3 margaritas. When asked about the high price, we were told prices are going up. My local Mexican restaurant in St. Louis charges $7.95 for a medium size margarita. La Mex is highway robbery. Was with a big group for dinner. Not once did the waiter ask if I need anything all he cared about was the customers that had alcoholic beverages! Was given wrong food but did not know it because it was similar to mine. Staff did not seem to care and did nothing to rectify the situation. Love going to La Mex, this was our second visit to the Morris location, but we ordinarily do go to the LaMex in Joliet. The main think i like about La Mex ( besides the Margaritas obviously and food lol) is that it is a laid back restaurant nice and quiet. A nice place to go for a date in my opinion . Keep in mind that I'm married but We like it for the privacy and it's a bit romantic with the lighting. I can't stand when places have bright lights! They really have good food and great salsa! Went to LA mex last night for nachos. That was a big mistake they were horrible. It looked like somebody threw up in the box and tasted even worse. It was bland and nachos were soggy. Won't go there again. read more

All of the food was good although it seems they used a lot of canned ingredients like the cheese on the Nachos Supreme and the complementary salsa. The carne asada dinner came with a nice size cut of steak and rice and beans. The server was attentive and came back often to make sure everything was good. There aren't too many Mexican restaurants in this area so if you're looking for Mexican, this is a good option. read more

We went to La Mex on a Saturday night. It was busy but we got seated pretty much right away. They have a large menu which includes some smaller sized plates. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa had just enough heat to it. I ordered an enchilada dish which came with rice and beans. I asked for extra salsa because that's what I always do. The chicken in the enchiladas was good. It was all white meat. But I have to agree with some of the other posters...the rice was bland as was the red sauce on my enchiladas. Even with the extra salsa, it just seemed to be missing something . I have not tried any of the other Mexican restaurants in the area, but I know sometimes in rural areas in some parts of the country, you won't get authentic ethnic cuisine. Been going to LaMex Morris for about 5 years, usually food is decent, today, I found quality is gone. Ordered the"Fabulouso" dinner which is supposed to have skirt steak "carne asada". This is home of the best margaritas I have ever had in my life. The food is authentic and absolutely fantastic.

After many attempts, they have failed me. I gave them like 5 chances and only 1 they came through. Each time my order was cooked incorrectly and once addressed (I ordered out) they offered to fix it next time. I finally gave up. The service (over the phone was great). Going into the restaurant is very dark. Much darker then the Joliet location which IMO is a lot bigger. The chips and salsa are ok, if you are really hungry. read more

I had camarones ranchero-fantastic (asked for extra lime and cilantro) service was great. The rest of my family had a taco salad, burrito and a burger ( gringo, lol) Salsa was hot, to my pleasant surprise. The lighting is fun, does not compliment the food!!!!!! We have been comming here for at least 20 years some times twice a month. I dont know if they have changed owners but last night every plate my family received was very bland and had no flavor. I usally get the Diablo dinner which is very spicy but tonight it was so HOT!!! It was inedible. Dont know what you have changed but put it back or we won't be. read more

We walked through the front door and had no question what type of ethnic restaurant we chose. This place is nicely decorated with beautiful murals, plants, and red, orange, and green lighting. This is our second visit there and I would have to say the food and drinks are great! Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday are 1/2 price margaritas! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because on both occasions we had waitresses that weren't the greatest. If your a big fan of microwave food this is the place for you. Runny gas station salsa is top of the list. About the only thing right was the beer was cold. My friends liked there mixed drinks. The microwaved steak Diablo was absolutely terrible. Cold to the touch, the chess wasn't even melted. Cold rice and beans. Just down right terrible. The waitress was to busy talking in the drink room so I couldn't even send it back. If your in morris and looking for good mexican food go to taco bell it's probably better. (P.s. Hubby likes their steak. Their chicken dishes are good, white meat. 1/2 price margarita nights are a big draw for us. ALL of their margaritas are included, even pitchers. It is what it is. A wanna-be Lalo's in Morris. Not that Lalo's is the best in Mexican food but La Mex doesn't even meet or exceed them. The service at La Mex iffy. It depends on which teenager is working as hostess. As far as the waitresses go, I've had an amazing one and a horrid one. The food is ok depending on what you order. The food is good, service excellent. Prices very fair. I took a motorcycle ride with my daughter few years ago, after long ride we went to La Mex for dinner. To our disappointment there was a wedding going on. as we discussed where to go to eat the father of bride, and I think owner approached us and invited us in for dinner. I explained my attire sleeveless t, with tattoos showing would be inappropriate for occasion but we were very pleased with the offer. Once again, yes, you're in Morris. Don't compare it to City places. And yes, the family that owns and runs and cooks in it are actually Mexican from Mexico. However, this is TEXICAN food. It's supposed to have some american aspects, and it's not going to be caked with spiciness. The salsa is an old family recipe that is made with the same ingredients as it always has been, Texican salsa is watery by nature, so don't complain. It's not going to blow your mind, but the booze is fabulous, and the ambiance is cute. Reasonably priced and very big portions. read more
