We bought some baklava and cookies both of which were incredible. When our order was ready we picked it up and checked out at the cashier line. The parking lot seemed a bit shady though but all in all I did not have a bad experience here. At self-checkout, there was an old lady that just finished checking out and I guess started walking away. The staff supervising that area darted quickly at her and reminded her bluntly to remember to get her receipt muttering something about "so you don't complain later" or something in that vein. While I applaud the thought, I don't know if the method of delivery was necessary. It is what it is.

Jose answered the phone with a great attitude, he even when to go check the freezer case to make sure the item was available. It was such a joy to have interaction with a positive employee, since this store is known for rudeness. Later this afternoon I made my drive to Kroger to purchase my groceries. I spoke to Jose in person, and told him he made my day. What was another disappointment, was I waited 15 minutes to speak with the manager, but he never came to the front of the store. You see, I wished to give an employee compliment on Jose. Thanks Jose for being excellent!

It's your typical Tom Thumb, and I don't usually interact with the workers, because I'm on a mission going in. I have seen the deli meat in pretty bad shape, mold. The hours on the door said it opens at 6 am and closes at 11 pm. Don't trust the hours on yelp but always call before going. This happened when looking for another place and the hours were wrong. I didn't learn my lesson, but now I'll call before going if an item is needed late at night.

Plus the cafe has really good food. We always get pizza and it's great quality for a great price. They also have a playground for little ones. Shopping at Central Market is truly a one of a kind experience and I always leave feeling excited about the new and unique things they have. They frequently have special events and themes too. I remember a few years ago they did one on Portugal and had a bunch of imported Portuguese items and they made Portuguese bread and pastries in the bakery. It was amazing.

I also went back to the bakery and checked out their assorted baked goods. I was underwhelmed. They looked phenomenal but they were average size, etc. But the prices were outrageous. More expensive that San Diego prices which kind of surprised me. I ended up getting a hamburger. The chef was very nice, friendly, made me laugh. He built me a fantastic bleu bonnet burger. It was tasty, flavorful, filling. It was cooked a little more than I would normally want, but still yummy. the Brioche Bun was good, but did fall apart a little bit. Maybe warming it on the grill had something to do with that. I went with a combo that included a drink cup for the help yourself drink station. The drink station had interesting flavors I have never seen before, and some old standards like coke, diet coke, sprite. The combo also included crinkle cut fries. They were warm, golden brown, delicious but they were a little overdone. Definitely needed some ketchup to help eat them. The staff at the checkout lines were smiling, laughing, friendly, and when they had to check out one of their coworkers, you could see the strong camaraderie amongst the employees. I was going to bring one of their large 8" Berry Chantilly cakes to a birthday party in a few days…read moreso I came by to see if I could place an order for it. It was the 4th of July weekend so I wanted to be sure that this cake would be available. Sadly, I was told that they do not take orders for their cakes. Regardless, the salesgirl was pretty confident that one should be available. We came back a few days later and as I entered into the store a woman was walking out with one of the cakes I wanted. I held my breath and picked up my step and got back to the Bakery department. I was able to breathe as I found six of these cakes available for purchase. Whew! What a relief! My only suggestion is that they let you "reserve one" in advance. I would definitely pay in advance too, just to let them help me out by storing a fresh one for me. It was a bit stressful not knowing if they would have that cake available on the day I needed to pick it up. The packaging is pretty big for this cake. So big that it wouldn't fit in a traditional rectangular cooler. I had to put my cooler on its side and then slide it in. I carefully put the seatbelt through the cooler handle so it was snug. Since I was running a few errands on the way to the party, I wanted to make sure it stayed nice and cool. I brought the cake to the party and it was the star of the show! It was as beautiful inside as was the outside! Not too sweet, the cake was moist and had a slight almond flavor and fruity between the layers. I highly recommend the Berry Chantilly cake for all of your special occasions or just when you want a delicious cake!

Busy parking lot indicates its popularity, although there is always parking spot available. Check it out, and you will be happy you did.
