I started going here because they popped up on Upside--if you don't know, it's this app where you get cash back after buying gas. Super cool! I've been using it for years, and yes, it's legit--I've cashed out multiple times to my PayPal. LMK if you need my code--you get $15 just for signing up! (Haha!) Anyway, the app gives extra cashback if you shop or get gas at certain places, so I figured I'd check this spot out. Not a fan. Veggies didn't last, and the milk went bad within 2-3 days--super disappointing, especially since it was farm-sourced and seemed fresh. Meat quality? Meh. Cheap, sure--but that's not my priority. I'm not saying I need Central Market's air-chilled chicken for $10, but I do like balance, and I couldn't find it here. Language barrier? Yep. Not a big deal for me, but even speaking with the manager requires Spanish. If you go to the meat counter, grab a number--they'll call it out in Spanish (jajaja!). On the bright side, I get to practice mi español! They do business, that's for sure. There's a small food stand in front that smells amazing, but you need cash to pay (which I rarely carry). Huge cake & sweets section as soon as you walk in, and two different food counters trying to lure you in with samples. They're persuasive, but I love to cook and have time--so I didn't bite. But let's be real--if I had a busy schedule, I'd grab tamales over fast food any day. Pricing? Eh. Some stuff is affordable, but other things very pricey--wanted a gallon of water once and was shocked at how much it was. Just stopped by Aldi instead--two-minute drive from my house. I was hungry for Taco Bueno crunchy beef tacos, but I like fresh avocado slices on my tacos. So, I had never been to El Rancho before and figured they had some avocados. I was a little at a disadvantage because I don't speak or read Spanish. But I found avocados and some nice looking frescas (strawberries) and grapes. Super authentic mexican grocery store! As a tourist from Canada, I always love visiting local supermarkets and found this place not too far from our hotel. We arrived early on a Monday morning, plenty of parking, spacious large interior. All staff seems hispanic, we were the only "whites" in the whole store. We browsed through, with no particular purchase plans in mind, just checking out the bakery and fresh food selection. I was super impressed with all the fresh products made on site. There is a bakery for all kinds of pastries and custom cakes, a small area where you can get balloons or floral arrangements, food counter with ready made eats, tortillas, chips and other breads all made on site. Best of all for me was the butcher section, there are SO many marinated meats and different cuts. It is very impressive. If you are looking for imported goods from Mexico or want to throw a party or BBQ, this place has it all. Really loved the experience! read more

I surprisingly LOVE this place. When I drove by I didn't think it was the place for me but after some persuasion from a friend I went in. The fruit waters here are amazing and really cheap. I also bought a flan cake here it was a little dry but still really good. But my all time favorite thing here is the little corn stand outside. I am not sure what it is called but you buy corn in a cup and they put a little butter and cheese with sour cream and some hot sauce. If you haven't had it you're missing out! I have to warn you as delicious as the corn things are they destroy your stomach, if you have too much hot sauce you're going to be farting blood by the end of the night. read more

This place is truly diverse. Bakery, fruit juice stand, hot prepared foods, seafood counter, meat counter, not to mention typical grocery fare. They really run the gamut. They have rearranged their produce area to add in fresh tortillas! Huge machines with employees staffed to pump out the flour and corn edible plates. I've eaten at the prepared foods many times, and am actually impressed with the taste. Only once did I have a bad meal, and it was my fault for coming in late at night. The meat was dried out, but jeez, they were about to close soon. So I overlook that. Even though I'm a fan of barbacoa, I can NOT get over the full cow's heads in the meat counter. They look so scary and their eye balls follow you. The strung up carcasses are kinda creepy too. If anything I can kill some time in here walking around and browsing. They stack product up amazingly high and you never really know what you'll come across. read more

This grocery store is not a bad place to come to get some Mexican prepared food...I personally love their Aguas Frescas, (Fresh Fruit Waters). Their meat selection is enormous...you can't go wrong with their marinated chicken, and beef. You'll be the talk of the town when you grill their meats...awesome flavor!!! I almost forgot, y'all need to check out their bakery and try their Pan Dulce. If you want the best experience of Mexican culture- check this place out! it's not just a grocery store. It's a bakery, restaurant, aguas frescas and elote stand. Their aguas frescas are some of the best! My personal favorites are sandia (watermelon) and limon (lime). They also do freshly squeezed juice at this drink bar. As for lunch, my favorite plate thus far is the taquitos. The chicken is so moist and full of flavor. You get like 4 taquitos and rice and beans. Their rice is also fantastic and full of flavor. The salsa bar is awesome as well. Several choices of incredible salsa. My favorite is the warm, red salsa. I can see many more meals here in the future of this current pregnancy :) Best chips ever- Tortillas de Nopal. Nopal is cactus. They may sound weird, but let me tell you, they are incredibly addictive. We always get the chips and fish ceviche on our way out. The fish ceviche is very very good. The elote (corn) stand on the way out is some of the best. It's far beyond any definition of healthy by any means, but tastes darn good! They have a huge dinning court where they serve Mexican style cooked meats and rice. They also sell freshly squeezed juices such as mango, jicama, watermelon, pineapple and other drinks. I have not eaten in the food court, but it is the first thing that catches my eye when I walk in. They sell roma tomatoes very cheap every week for 2lbs for $1. Sometimes less. The cereals are higher priced than Fiesta. The cashiers are always pleasant. If you need cash back they charge a fee Whereas at Fiesta you can get cash back in any increment with no fee. read more

Ventured here to find some carne asada to grill one lovely spring afternoon and uncovered a bit of a treasure. After walking through the front entrance where you are "forced" to walk by a dozen cases of incredible Mexican pastries, reminiscent of the panaderias I've visited in Mexico, you come to the prepared food section. To the left there is a huge grill where they are cooking up some delicious chicken, think El Pollo Loco style if you've ever been. We ordered the "chicken special" which came with two pieces of chicken, rice, beans, and a dozen tortillas each. The total meal for two orders of the special came to $7 and some change. WHAT A DEAL! This is where I'll go when I'm broke, I'm sure I can find $3.50 in quarters from my sofa any ol' time. Back to the food! The chicken was addictive, I was stuffed, I couldn't finish my plate. We both agreed the beans were truly authentic re fried beans, lard and all I'm sure, traditional Mexican rice, and warm homemade tortillas to boot. A few feet away from the eating area (ie. a few picnic benches and tables in the middle of the store - think...grocery casual for attire) there is a great salsa bar with a bunch of different types to try, as well as some other tasty condiments, extra cilantro, limes, radish, jalapenos etc. You can also check out the aguas frescas bar, where there are about 8-9 different juices to choose to go with your meal - I love the lemon! Ice cream bar too if you have a sweet tooth. After a stuffed belly, we wandered around for while, picking up some incredibly cheap limes, cilantro, jalapenos, avocados, roma tomatoes....can you guess what we made that evening? They have great prices on Mexican seasonings and tortillas too. It pains me to buy these items anywhere else. Just a few last tips - #1. Squeamish folks may want to shield their eyes at the end of the meat counter, because there are practically whole cows and pigs hanging out in the window of the butcher area. #2. If you need ice, there is a machine in the parking lot that you throw your dinero in and out comes a huge bag of ice for a buck. What's so great about this? Well, it plays the song "Ice, Ice, Baby" for you while you're waiting for your ice bag. And let's face it...what's better than a little Vanilla Ice to get you in the mood to muddle up some fresh mojitos and guacamole? Answer: Nada! read more

So... on my latest trip to El Rancho I noticed a sign outside advertizing "halal" food. Either I totally missed it last time or they have just started catering to the South Asian/Middle Eastern crowd. Big, clean, well-organized supermercado with a big pan dulces section, huge cheese and meat counters, and a prepared foods section on the left when you go in. Vegetable prices are generally quite good. I usually get my queso fresco and queso oxaca here; the latter is kinda like a Mexican string cheese and is wormy shaped. Lots of fun to eat. Last trip I snagged a 16oz menudo-to-go from the stand (had to think about how to say 16 en Espanol!) but we forgot to put it in the fridge that night so it sat out all night. :-( Will do it again soon. I went mainly for produce and of course came out with more than expected! Very clean store and well kept produce. Beats a few places and Walmart FOR SURE. i couldn't believe how cheap the produce was. I stocked up for about two weeks for about half of the cost that i would have spent at Tom Thumb.. probably even less than half. My boo found some meat that got his attention and he was really happy with the quality as well. We got some fresh tortillas and fresh made chili chips. Everything was really good quality. I've been seeing it for a while, but I didn't have a chance to stop by until today. This is a clean and nice grocery store! Their produce section is very cheap, but they're still fresh. They also have a hot food section inside of the store. The food looks very good, and there are a lot of tables to sit down and eat there which is very nice and I like. I had lunch before I came here, but I want to try something next time. The elote stand outside smells good too. I came here around 2:30pm, and there were so many people at the store, but I didn't have to wait for checkout. The staff is very nice and friendly.
