Met a friend here for lunch and was surprised that there weren't many folks eating. That worried me a bit, but I soon got over it. The service was outstanding as our server brought chips and salsa/refried bean dip muy pronto. We ordered almost the same things. I got 2 tacos, asada and adobada, and a side relleno. Came here for $2 taco tuesday (usually small tacos are $3 each) and it did not disappoint! The taco fillings were fresh and piled on--really more like a medium sized taco. The cabeza and lengua tacos were perfectly tender and flavorful. The cueritos (pork skin) was new to me and a little too soft for my liking but my partner really liked them. Ten years ago, I would have stated this was a must-go for traditional Mex. They still do have all the off cuts (buche/cabeza/true birria--goat/cueritos--pork skin), and as a market with a carniceria they should. Everything is still well-prepared and delicious. But even before Jan 2021 they had become ridiculously expensive. Now, it's just absolutely insane. You're better off with their lunch menu--should you visit--but it's only weekdays. They must be aware there are other Mex restos in town that are serving the traditional cuts for far less dinero, right? An amazing example of authentic cuisine from the state of Michoacán Mexico. So far I've had the Red Mole Enchiladas, Pozole, and one each of all their ala carte tacos. All full of the flavors of my youth. Great, authentic Mexican food. Before the meal we received chips, retried beans with a sprinkle of cojita cheese, tomatillo salsa, a mixture of pickled cabbage, cilantro, chili, and some wonderful avocado based salsa in a bottle. I scooped up some beans, put some of the picked veggies and squirted some avocado salsa all on top of a tortilla chip. What a treat! They also serve Agua Fresca. I've had both the Melon and Guava. Delicious and refreshing. From the mini mart I purchased some marinated Carne Asada and some Chorizo sausage. Both were excellent. Service was on point and we were attended to timely. Ordered the tortilla soup, as it had some quite raving reviews from my friend, and I was not disappointed. The tortilla chips were nice and crunchy, the cheese melted deliciously in the soup broth, and the broth itself was so good. I asked for onions and cilantro, not sure if they usually come with the dish but it doesn't hurt to make sure, because they definitely were essential to the soup. The chicken and avocado in the soup were both delicious, with the flavors of the broth adding just the right amount of spice to the chicken and the avocados adding a difference in texture to the tortilla chips that was so very much appreciated. I may have been something of a tricky customer with all my requests for more things but honestly it was so worth it. Ask for extra limes too, they cost $0.95 but are super worth it. Adding the lime juice and a good bit of hot sauce made this soup absolute perfection. My mom, sister and I went here for lunch. It is actually huge inside and they have a market as well who I ordered the burrito special, my sister got an enchilada and taco and my mom got the steak fajitas. The lunch started out with chips and warm beans with a small amount of salsa and also a green salsa mixed with sour cream.I don't eat dairy so I asked for my beans not to have cheese on them. Thankfully they didn't put any cheese inside the burrito or on top of it that I could see it. The steak was OK and nothing to write home about. My mom didn't like her fajitas because they put too much lime in them. When Mr. said hers was OK and also nothing special. To the right is a mini market, and to the left is a bakery and deli type set up. It reminds me a lot of De Leon foods! They bring your chips with amazing salsa, beans sprinkled cotija, AND a sort of avocado cilantro cream sauce that is to die for!!! You can easily get full just off the chips alone, lol, but don't do that because their food is excellent and authentic. One of my favorite dishes is their ceviche tostada. Finally we have found the best place for Mexican Food in the Spokane area and it's here at La Michoacana. I got the Albondigas soup and it was the best I've had since we moved here 4 yrs ago. The margaritas are made fresh and actually come in real Margarita glasses. My hubby had the Chile Verde and it was very fresh and tasted great. It's in a large building and seating is in a courtyard style. There are a lot of tables and some booths. The market area is on the outer walls of the seating . There is a small separate well stocked bar with ( good tequilas ) open to the restaurant area. We left very happy and I know we will be back soon. The food tastes like it's made with love. I've have had great food from simple taco wagons from Wenatchee, Tri-cities, and Yakima areas. Not trying to compare, but it hard not to compare. Service is great. They welcome you and are courteous. They check up on you to see how things are going. Tortas are good, cooked differently, but good if you haven't had one before. Small tacos, meat was great, but the tortillas were not cooked completely. Overall it was ok for this one outing. Hoping to try again in the future and experience different entrees.
