I've been here plenty of times. We get the same thing every time. It'a been months since the last visit. This time I am worse that disappointed. Mostly two reasons. One..... the price went up. Stromboli is now over 18 dollars a piece. Second.... With that being said it totally shrunk in size and is flat as a pancake with very little stuffing in it at all. Very little. Lift up the box up and it weighs less than 1/4 a cheese pizza would. I totally feel we got ripped here. Not to mention it is a Saturday at dinner time and there isn't a sole in the building and the workers were standing there. Nothing much to do. I am upset as I've always likes this item I've gotten never an issue. Won't ever return. Ever. I'll get it elsewhere. read more

Lamentable dinner and even worse wine here. Sorry, fellow Yelpers, but this one is a miss. The place is very clean, but the furniture is dated and worn. I sank into the booth seat and it was not stable in its frame. Staff is pleasant, young, and attentive. Hated to give a dour review with such a nice crew! However, let's talk food. I chose to try their Lasagna with a salad, bread, an ice tea, and a drink they claim was Spanish sangria. Ok, let me say I have eaten food in so many states over the years that I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about alcoholic beverages. This supposed sangria was the WORST I have ever tasted in my entire life! It was sickeningly sweet vinegary! About the lasagna, it was bland. The cooking execution was great and it was served hot as on point. But for a restaurant that claims its owner is from Napoli, it was a far cry from what I expected for flavour and presentation! Total eclipse of flavour, in fact. And the bread was like toasted stale Wal-Mart bakery bread slapdashed with butter. UGH! The salad did not inspire much either. Generous portion of iceberg and a touch of leafy green with sliced cucumbers and tomatoes were in it. I asked for the balsamic vinaigrette house dressing. It was a housemade mix of oil and balsamic vinegar with a sprig of rosemary in it and zero extra flavour. Not impressive to say the least. The iced tea wasn't that good either. It is quite regrettable since they seem to have a local following that raves about their pizza. Maybe I should have tried the pizza? But, after tonight, I just don't think I am eager enough to give a second chance. read more

We've eaten here a few times and it's always been good. We ordered calzones and they had no flavor, bottoms soggy and not cooked probably and too much mozzarella cheese very little veggies or meat. Disappointing read more

We came for a visit with family and they suggested this restaurant- worst meal ever- new owners who don't believe in alcohol for personal reasons so that has been removed from the menu- gluten free pizza tasted like cardboard- minimal sauce and dry- my daughter got a Stromboli and it was mostly dough- I would not recommend this place to anyone who knows what good food is. read more

A really decent Italian place right off the highway that I am pretty sure is family owned (my waitress spoke Italian, and tole me her uncle owned the place). I got the large Stromboli (see attached photo), and it was big enough for 2 people, or for me, lunch and dinner! quick service, clean joint, great wait staff... All around 4 stars. read more

Called just a few weeks ago to ask if they serve gluten free pasta. She assured me they did and they have a cauliflower pizza crust. So tonight a Thursday my husband and I decided to try them. New waitress, not her fault, didn't know if they had gluten free pasta. I assured her they did have gf penne. Placed our orders even ordered an appetizer Before we could get our salads the waitress came back and said no gluten free pasta. But they had gf pizza. Sorry but we wanted a meal not pizza. I was stunned as I had just talked with someone from the restaurant and they assured me they always have gf pasta. Needless to say I was angry. This store is just 200 yes from a Food Lion where you can buy gf pasta. I felt if they wanted us to eat there they would have managed to get some gf pasta. Plus at 630 pm on a Thursday night there was one table with 4 people and a booth with two people. It appears that everyone else knows not to eat here. Wish I had known before driving out of my way to go to this restaurant. Oh and they are no longer serving beer or wine, no biggie for me. But I think they are starting to slide downhill. read more

Whoa - now this is what I call blow-my-socks-off pizza! Who would have expected such delicious, fresh tomato sauce and tasty toppings at this small little pizzeria in Sanford? Our local family members have been going to Montesina for years, but we've never had the opportunity to sample such delicious dishes until now. What a gem! The pizza: thin crust but not dry, just the right amount of puffy crunch to the outer crust and not doughy in the least. The sauce... light and flavorful. Wonderful fresh mushrooms, just the right amount of crisp to the pepperoni. Honestly, I'd drive 40 minutes just to have another slice. The ravioli was great... again, that yummy sauce! We also enjoyed a cheesesteak which was pretty tasty. Really great stuff - take out was fast and the staff were friendly. Very nice job, La Montesina! read more

Hidden gem in Sanford! I live close by and had never tried it because it never looked very busy but my brother took me there with some more family and it was excellent! We got this family deal..large pepperoni pizza, chicken wings, salad, steak sandwich, and lasagna..and I think I'm the only one who got water, but everything came to like $32 with tax and drinks! This fed 4 adults and a 5 year old with a piece of pizza left over! And everything was excellent! Will definitely be back! read more

This was my first time eating here. We were the first ones in for lunch which made me a little nervous but by the time we left the place was packed. I have been to this place several times with family but forgot the name, the staff is always super nice. I agree that it's a hidden gem, great prices and fills you up quick. The quality and quantity are both on point at this place! They even put your food in a take out box for you and I have never been somewhere where the waitresses do that. I recommend. read more

Disappointing. Veal parmesan consisted of frozen prepackaged breaded veal patties with cheese and tomato sauce. Salad was iceberg and tasteless tomatoes. Several members of my party had cheese pizza slices which they did not care for or finish. Service was minimal, I got up to get my own cheese. I would not go back. read more

La Montesina used to be a great place. There was an ownershiop change a while back, and with it, a huge change in quality. Chicken Parmesean is now what appears to be a Tyson frozen Chicken patty with cheese and tomato sauce. Sicilian pizzas are often cold, and the toppings are undercooked. There are better places in Sanford. read more

I enjoyed the pizza and the owner is a real Italian. It is nice to know that there is a real Italian restaurant nearby since I am new here and I am also Italian descent. I am from Chicago and he was from Italy but also lived in NY; so his pizza is NY style. It is different than Chicago style which LOADS the pizza up and has deep dish, which Chicago is famous for. I did not like his wife who was rude. I was explaining to her that the Naples area of Italy is considered Northern Italian. She was NOT Italian and very young and appeared disrespectful to my culture, which is surprising since she married an Italian. But she does NOT understand the Italian ways and that it is rude to insult OTHER ITALIANS and their view of how they were raised. That should seem simple enough, but she was rude anyway. I have a Master's degree in teaching too. I just consider the generation, NO MANNERS. I will go in there again, but if she is rude again, I will not eat there and the owner should realize he is losing business because of her. This time be respectful of other Italians and their understanding of their culture, since it is NOT your culture. Go get a Masters in Education too before you try to understand geography. read more
