Solely based on her recommendation, I ordered the Brussel sprouts (and I have not eaten a Brussel Sprout in 40 years). They were delicious - especially with the balsamic glaze (ask for it on the side). Everything we had was delicious: crab dip, fried oysters, scallops, rib eye, fillet tips, strawberry shortcake... wine.... Our steaks were definitely high quality & cooked as requested. Everything was perfect. We WILL be back. Here's my attempt at channeling your voice: I wanted to love this place, but for the price, I just kept thinking, "I could've gone to Farm House." The atmosphere felt more like an upscale hotel lounge than a steakhouse. My ribeye was cooked correctly, but it was missing that rich, beefy flavor that makes you stop talking after the first bite. It wasn't bad... it just wasn't memorable. Now the crab dip? That was the MVP of the night. Hot, cheesy, and delicious. But why serve it with soft pita bread? Give me crispy toasted pita chips so I've got something to scoop with! I never got to try the bread because the waitress swooped in like a ninja and took the basket before I could grab a piece. A couple other head-scratchers... you have to pay extra for a salad with your steak, and if you ask for cheese and bacon on your fries, they won't melt it on top--they'll hand it to you on the side. That's like giving someone a hot dog and the bun in separate bags. The open kitchen was cool, but every cook looked like Monday morning had personally offended them. Would I eat here again? Sure. Would I drive past Farm House, Homestead, Angus Barn, or The Peddler to get here? Not a chance. The steak was good, the service was great but it was pretty dark inside. Once your eyes adjusted it got better but it was still pretty dark.

We decided to do a spontaneous date night in our local area. We searched for steakhouses close to us and saw this restaurant. We decided to give it a try. We called in a reservation 15min ahead and got a table. This place is small but quiet. Not usual steakhouse but also not quite romantic but a little of both. Our server Lilly was awesome! She was attentive and knowledgeable. Very friendly and accommodating. The food was slightly over salted but ok. The bisque was a little too thick. We ordered dessert of strawberry shortcake and new York cheesecake with caramel, strawberry and chocolate to go. It was pretty good. We would give it more stars if the food had less salt but more taste. We will give it another try in a couple of months. read more

First time at this restaurant. #1 too expensive for the quality of food. #2 service not busy when we arrived at 4pm so why poor service?? Filet of beef $50 and have had much better at Outback for half the price. Mashed potatoes no taste and dried out. Seafood soup terrible with little flavor. The beef stringy and tough. Wow! I have to say this right off the bat. What an amazing experience. We were in town for only 1 night, and found the restaurant by chance (good Yelp reviews!). Decided to give it a try. So glad we did. The service was impeccable. We tried 2 different wines. My wife ordered the 14-ounce prime rib special with a loaded baked potato. I had a side salad, baked sweet potato, and the combo filet tips/chicken breast. The prime rib came out cooked exactly rare as my wife ordered it, and the potato was slightly smaller than a football. My filet tips probably ended up being between 10 and 12 ounces, plus a nice size chicken breast with them, served over wild rice. My sweet potato came out kind of burnt at 1 end, and as soon as the waitress saw that, she immediately removed it and came back with another one that was cooked perfectly. The salad was practically a meal in itself. The food also came with fresh, crusty sourdough bread. And all of this for less $$$ than one of the 'big name' steakhouses that don't deliver nearly the same quality. If we're ever in the area again, we will probably eat there every night! read more

have been to The Flame Sanford before and I had a great time. The food ranged from average to very good and the ambiance of the lounge was wonderful. I recently returned after my high-school graduation and this good experience was quickly overturned. After being seated I ordered the variety seafood plate. EVERYTHING was over cooked. They were very nice about switching it out and instead gave me the Balsamic Salmon which I enjoyed the previous time I was there. Again, extremely overcooked and the Brussels sprouts were very over salted. The seven other people at the table could attest to this. I sent it back and decided not to get anything else. Honestly, I wouldn't be writing this review if it weren't for the absolutely horrendous owner who typically kindly greets customers at the front door. When she arrived at my table, one of the other patrons tried to tell her what was happening and she said "can't he speak for himself" which I thought was rude. When she spoke to me it was in an extremely condescending and rude probably because of my age. She then stated that if I didn't like their food that was "cooked to perfection" maybe I should consider not eating there although I told her my first experience was fantastic. When I spoke to her again about her rude demeanor she tried to gaslight me and said that she said that maybe I should not eat the food, not never eat at the restaurant (what do you go to a restaurant for if not to eat!!!). I was extremely respectful as I'm freshly 18 and appreciative of service workers and small business owners. Maybe she thought I didn't want to pay for my food (I'm black and the person that attempted to stand up for me is to). The food was good. The Bang Bang Shrimp were great- worth going back for! Someone else with us (who's food expertise I trust :) said the crab cake was good. Me and my fiancé visited for our 2 year anniversary and were delighted to have Kimberly as our waitress in the lounge area at 7pm on a Saturday night which they were packed already when we arrived. she did an amazing job taking our order on a timely manner and making sure our food was cooked to perfection and satisfactory for our liking. I could confidently say you'd get a better meal here than at a longhorn steakhouse or Texas Roadhouse. The Flame is an icon of a steakhouse in this town. I grew up here but left over 4 decades ago for a career that took me to the NY suburbs for decades. The Flame still has the ambience and great food that Pokey created so long ago. My only gripes are that they aren't open every night, just a few days each weekend, and they do not offer the splendid salad bar they once did. The dining room setup was a little unconventional, not bad, just unconventional. I believe this is due to their floor plan which has a lounge/bar area that is separate and two banquet rooms off of that. Selection of beer and wine was great. The food for the price was lacking however. I had the 8oz NY strip with a loaded baked potato and my wife had the crab cakes with sweet potato. The NY strip was cooked and seasoned well and the baked potato was good too. However they were nothing to write home about, especially since the NY strip was 25% gristle and was the thinnest I've ever seen one cut. I would have preferred a thicker cut NY strip with no gristle of the 8oz variety. The crab cakes were flat and unfortunately not that great either. Save yourself some time and money by shopping at your local butcher shop and cooking your own NY strip and crab cakes. The Flame Steakhouse is a hidden treasure located in Sanford, NC and it is worth the trip from anywhere in the Triangle! My husband and I go at least once a week since we've discovered the place - we have never been disappointed! The service is excellent -- it's a place where the staff makes you feel at home and you never feel rushed. This is a place where you can actually have a quiet conversation without having to strain to hear -- the place has ambiance and great acoustics. The food is better than anything I have had at the Capital Grill or Ruth's Chris -- especially the Prime Rib which the owner cooks himself. The food is excellent from the appetizers all the way to dessert you will not be disappointed. The Flame has become our go to steak house! I'm no longer chained to the chain restaurants!! I have to say, all my orders were incredibly delicious. The chicken was juicy and tender, the beef was perfectly cooked and was seasoned just right. The cheesecake was also a delight. This place has definitely lived up to the reviews! This place is at the end of a "shopping " center and GPS is not accurate. I went in and sat at the dimly lit bar, which is situated up and to the right as you walk in. Since I haven't been here before, I had to ask where it was. The woman at the front was so friendly and kind! I sat at the bar and perused the wine menu, which is not extensive, but it gets the job done! They have a few house wines at $5 per glass and a few had bottles (you can take them home if you don't finish them), and about a page of full bottles, all pretty moderately priced. Their supper menu is only a gigantic page, but does not have a lot to offer, which means they are good at what they do offer! I'm off of carbs, so I only wanted meat (they only have the salad bar option for side salads and I'm not a fan of buffet style food, in any capacity). I opted for the beef tips appetizer, which was what seemed liked a full steak!!!! The portion was huge and was served with their horseradish sauce, which you really don't need because the meat has a ton of flavor!
