I could have made a meal of the Brussels sprouts appetizer and the lettuce wraps were great too. I had the Thai Beef Salad which was delicious although some of the beef was a bit tough. What a treasure to have Saladang in the heart of Sanford! It's a low key place tucked back in a little courtyard. The inside is clean, modern, spacious & nicely decorated. Our server was attentive despite being shorthanded. The food is the star here! Everything was very flavorful and well made. We used to love this place but the new owners have ruined it. Greasy, dirty menus and cutlery, water spotted glassware with lip marks around the rim. Pork skewers were hunks of fat on a skewer. Medium spice pork fried rice was no spice leftover microwaved chicken fried rice. Chef insisted it was pork, like I'm too stupid not to be able to tell. Wine was rot-gut nasty from a bottle that had probably been opened a couple months ago. The once beautiful red flooring is now dirty, dull, and scuffed, as was our table top. The woman at the table beside us took one bite of her food and ran to the restroom where she stayed for a bit, her husband periodically checking on her, before they both left. I will NEVER go back. This was an unexpected little gem. I ordered the massaman chicken and it was so flavorful and creamy. I love the plate presentation and their ice tea was wonderful. The service was amazing. There are so many things I love about the restaurant experience in Sanford. The first is how the community comes out to celebrate new restaurants. The second is that you actually get to meet and interact with the chef. Long story short... I had a wonderful time, the atmosphere was warm and fun. I like to reserve my "5" star ratings for places that couldn't get things any better. Honestly I would give a 4.8 only because the Pad Thai just needed a little chili oil but once we raised the spice level to our liking, it was very good. And this restaurant deserves more than a 4 so I had to go with a 5. The Panang Curry was the BEST I've ever had; Wouldn't change a thing!! The Fresh Spring Rolls were delish as well. I could have eating the peanut sauce, served with the fresh spring rolls, on a slice of bread and been happy! The service was outstanding! Adam took very good care of us. He had a great personality and was very helpful. The environment was cozy even while the place was busy. I went to Saladang to experience the new portion of their restaurant that serves sushi and hot pot. That side of the building is a bit more sparsly decorated and has yet to receive a liquor license. But the staff is great and very attentive. I tried the hot pot with spicy beef broth on one side and vegetable on the other. And had a serving of each meat and veg offering. The spice level on the beef broth was great for me but might be a bit intense for others. And the selection of meat and veg were not massive but they were all good. read more

Everything is always great and perfect at Saladang. I just moved from Houston and I am a picky Thai person. But Saladang did not disappoint. I wish they would bring back the hotpot and open up that lower level with the robot bringing your food around. Those hot-pots were a really great niche for a restaurant in Sanford. Oh well I hope they will get back on their feet again. I understand they have new owners and they don't have bar service anymore. I hope all of this is temporary for them. read more

From our very first visit, to my birthday in January, random week nights, take out and last night for valentine's day. We have tried over half the menu and everything has been delicious. The service has always been great and our cups never went empty. Just wanted to share some of the food we ate. I didn't get a picture of the brussels sprouts and realized half way through devouring the crab cakes (that are full of crab meat!!) the food was picture worthy. I highly recommend coming with friends, a large appetite and ordering multiple things, then sharing plates as the serving size is very generous. (the desserts have varied each time we have been there, last night they had an extra special thai dessert that was a coconut cream with jellies and fruit. Saladang Thai Kitchen in Sanford, NC served up some of the worst service I've ever experienced in any restaurant. The food was good, but absolutely not worth the nightmare of dealing with this staff. From the moment we walked in, we were ignored. It took forever just to get menus, then another 20+ minutes before anyone bothered to take a drink order. When drinks finally arrived, the waiter (dark curly hair, wearing a black-and-white checkered bandana) slammed two Coke cans on the table without saying a word--no greeting, no name, nothing. We waited another 15 minutes for straws. It didn't stop there. Nearly 30 more minutes passed before our food order was taken. When dishes came out, they were delivered one plate at a time. My plate was literally dumped at the end of the table, and I had to get up and walk over to grab it myself because the server couldn't be bothered to take two steps around the chair. There was no obstruction--just pure laziness or indifference. No one checked on us. They forgot my grandson's kids' Pad Thai entirely and brought it out late. Other tables around us were clearly frustrated too, so this isn't a one-off--it's a pattern of terrible service. Bottom line: The food might be decent, but the service is beyond awful. Rude, inattentive, and completely unprofessional. Save yourself the aggravation and go anywhere else. This place does not value its customers, and we will never return. read more

I never do this ... but tonight was quite an experience and should be shared. This was our first time to this restaurant. We had heard great things about it from others ... however, our experience was less than great. Here is a summary: We were the second couple to arrive, so definitely not busy ... yet. We ordered hot tea and got a single cup, not a typical pot for refreshing the drink. We ordered the wings (supposed to be 6) as an appetizer, Bang-Bang Shrimp, Tilapia and a side of broccoli in oyster sauce. The first dish to be delivered was the Bang-Bang Shrimp, not the appetizer. We asked why the entree before the appetizer and the waiter said, "They cook things as fast as they can and we bring whatever is done first. This happens a lot." What? So, we asked for the dish to be returned and we would wait for the appetizer. Within a few minutes a second wait-staff brought the wings ... 5 of them. We ate them and never saw any wait-staff until we were finished. At which point, we questioned why only 5 and he did not have an answer. However, both entrees were served soon thereafter ... and while eating the Tilapia the mystery was solved, the missing wing was in the bottom of that bowl! Never once during our meal did our waiter stop to ask us how things were and if we needed anything. It would have been nice to have a knife, but we both assumed that since one was not with the wrapped fork and large spoon, that knives were not available. (our mistake for not asking). So, instead, we 'ripped off' pieces of large shrimp and munched away at long stems of broccoli and pushed full pieces of lettuce into our mouths, one section at a time. At the end of our 'tasty' meal, the waiter finally stopped to ask how everything was. When we told him about the 'missing' wing mystery, he said that he would tell the cook and find out why that happened. (His answer was surprising and probably best not to include in this review [for the cook's sake].) Needless to say our first experience and impression was not particularly favorable.
