I first used Rocinante Studios in 2018 to help my client producer create ADR (Automated Dialogue…read moreRecording) for his feature film. The filming had been completed, but certain dialogue needed to be re-recorded by the actors. Campbell, the owner of the studio, was first rate in every aspect. He is patient, helpful and an expert sound engineer. He worked with my client and the actors to get the recordings to match beautifully, did all the the post-production work (editing, mixing, etc.) and did so super efficiently. The movie ended up looking and sounding terrific. In 2022, Campbell recorded the entire audiobook for one of my clients who is an author. They scheduled the recording so that my client could do it in manageable chunks of three hours a day. After each day recording, Campbell would go through that day's recordings, make any edits needed, mark the spots he felt could be re-recorded, and sent them to the author so that she could have her input. The audiobook came out beautifully. Throughout this time, I have used Rocinante Studios to record dialogue for my own audiobooks, video game voiceovers, as well as audio exercises for my students (I am a Voice & Speech Coach). Campbell and his partner Suz are a joy to work with. They are super fair in their pricing, very amenable to working with us in terms of scheduling, and most importantly, provide top-tier recording results. The studio is also set up for music recording. Although I haven't used Rocinante for that purpose, I have listened to the music recordings made there and they are all top top-quality. This is a great studio to work with!

For me, The Village is probably the best studio experience I have had as a client. All of the set…read moreup, booking, session setup, logistics are taken care of the moment you step in. The people working as your assistant and runners are all talented, top notch audio engineers who know how to pretty much troubleshoot every situation. I got called in as a guest sound engineer for an acoustic session and my assistant got everything set up and ready to go even before I walked in for the call time. In some studios, this is not what happens, you get there and you start from scratch, with the Village, you get your set up exactly as you want it and you have a whole team of people ready to help you out whenever you need to. They have an awesome mic locker, a lot of history, great people and a super warm and friendly but genuine vibe. The people are crazy chill but know how to fix a problem. And did I mention that they are relatively affordable? Okay maybe I can say that they probably offer the best value for money with the studios around LA. I don't ever remember being less stressed in a studio session than when I do one here.

Working with Rene at Future Sound Studios was the best decision I made in 2018…read more The worst decision I made was using my drummer's boyfriend's studio. I had three great songs that I had written over the summer that I decided needed recording for my debut album. My drummer offered her bf's studio to record the band, which was cool at first. It ended up being a HUGE mistake--the drums sounded AWFUL recorded in his place. Small, tinny, behind-a-padded-wall sound. Out of sync totally. Not to mention his overall attitude was weird--it ended up being his session, not mine. I thought there was no hope for saving these records. And I still had yet to record my vocals. Luckily, we found Rene on Yelp. With his help, I was able to record my vocals and get the drums fixed to a T. Rene made my songs go from B-side 1960's crap small-studio sounding to 2019 sparkling, widescreen Katy Perry perfection. We also go the songs done relatively quickly. I was obviously a bit trepidatious going back into a studio after that last experience, but I shouldn't have been. Rene is very nice and personable, the opposite of what I experience so often in Hollywood. I felt comfortable in his studio the second I stepped foot inside. Rene and I are also on the same wavelength creatively--we both feel when a take is right and when it's not, when a song is hot and when it's not. He is very honest and will tell you the truth, which I appreciate. My favorite part of working with him is his sense of humor. I also respect how I requested no autotune on my voice and he actually listened--most other engineer/producers I've worked with laugh right in my face at that and never do it, they're too egotistical to ever let the singer make mistakes on their record. But he let me try it. Remember, as a mixer, masterer and engineer, his success is your success. He is a hard worker-I must have asked him for 40 files for TV and film placement purposes and he sent me every single one immediately. He is a walking plethora of musical knowledge. The actual room is small where I recorded, but it worked fine for me and my backup singer. If you really wanted to, you could cram a small choir in there, maybe a horn. Rene's studio is for overdubs, not bands. So, keep that in mind. Although he does have other rooms. Great, high-quality gear, too. Fantastic mics. Rene is awesome!
