I first used Rocinante Studios in 2018 to help my client producer create ADR (Automated Dialogue Recording) for his feature film. The filming had been completed, but certain dialogue needed to be re-recorded by the actors. Campbell, the owner of the studio, was first rate in every aspect. He is patient, helpful and an expert sound engineer. He worked with my client and the actors to get the recordings to match beautifully, did all the the post-production work (editing, mixing, etc.) and did so super efficiently. The movie ended up looking and sounding terrific. In 2022, Campbell recorded the entire audiobook for one of my clients who is an author. They scheduled the recording so that my client could do it in manageable chunks of three hours a day. After each day recording, Campbell would go through that day's recordings, make any edits needed, mark the spots he felt could be re-recorded, and sent them to the author so that she could have her input. The audiobook came out beautifully. Throughout this time, I have used Rocinante Studios to record dialogue for my own audiobooks, video game voiceovers, as well as audio exercises for my students (I am a Voice & Speech Coach). Campbell and his partner Suz are a joy to work with. They are super fair in their pricing, very amenable to working with us in terms of scheduling, and most importantly, provide top-tier recording results. The studio is also set up for music recording. Although I haven't used Rocinante for that purpose, I have listened to the music recordings made there and they are all top top-quality. This is a great studio to work with! read more

This is the best kept secret in Los Angeles and I'm a little hesitant to write my review in fear that everyone will start coming and I won't be able to book anymore!!!! I met Campbell shortly after they moved to Los Angeles. I knew he worked in music but I didn't know to what extent. So many people in Los Angeles say they are producers and really can't produce anything... that is ABSOLUTELY NOT the case with Cambell and his studio. He is such a true professional who makes you feel like you have creative freedom, yet helps you critique and cultivate your project to get the best for it. The studio space it so awesome!!!!!!! It's a comfortable atmosphere that is neat, clean and such a great space to work, perform and create in. This studio is the total package right here!!!! I first met Campbell through the Bay Area singer-songwriter scene. Between his Scottish accent, those long, luxurious curls, and his harmonica-while-guitar-playing, he's one of those people you immediately remember in a sea of San Francisco hipsters. Recording can be a giant money sucking pit. Especially for new artists trying to figure out their sound. There a ton of people more than willing to take your money and rack up an hourly rate while leaving you with a result that doesn't really sound like what you wanted in the first place. Campbell is not one of those guys. My experience working him was as straightforward as it gets. We talked about my song and figured out what I wanted to emphasize. He created an arrangement around my main vocal and piano part while also suggesting some interesting melodic and production ideas. It was reasonably priced and not once did I feel like I was getting taken advantage of or getting dragged along with someone else's vision of what my song should be. I highly recommend him to singer-songwriters looking to explore recording their songs for the first time, songwriters looking to demo songs reasonably, or anyone looking for an ace guitarist, harmonica player, and producer. read more

I began working with Campbell in 2015 -- we collaborated on an R&B song I'd written, which he rearranged beautifully (not to mention absurdly quickly) on acoustic guitar. He then rearranged several other songs I'd written in similarly brilliant ways. One of the things that most amazes me about Campbell is his innate ability to not only adapt to the chosen genre and pick up the spirit of the music. We always have a great time collaborating because we both love to improvise, and Campbell is great about coming up with new ideas and interpreting the spirit of each song. I think this has already been said in another review, but I have to reinforce how chill Campbell is. I occasionally get a little nervous singing in front of other people, but not with Campbell. He's incredibly easygoing, but he knows what he's doing and gives good direction when needed. Seldom have I felt so at ease -- and had so much fun -- during a recording session. This place is perfect for any musician (or voice-over artist) who is ready to upgrade to a more professional recording environment without breaking the bank. The equipment is great and the environment is welcoming while still retaining that vibe of 'we're here to make music'. The isolated booth is well done and all the soundproofing was professionally installed. Campbell is super friendly, chill and obviously loves music; he's eager to help you get the most out of your time (though he's patient if you're still figuring out a riff). He knows a ton and is also super helpful via email. Another perk: he records using Apple's Logic Pro X, which is more accessible than Pro Tools (which is what many traditional studios use). Logic is basically GarageBand Pro and that's a good thing! read more

I've recorded with Campbell for a little over a year and a half. In addition to being a masterful producer, he's also a skilled musician, a prolific singer-songwriter, and is incredibly well-versed in a wide variety of musical genres. He listens carefully to your ideas and also has an innate sense for picking up musical styles and anticipating sounds you would want (but perhaps didn't know you wanted), as well as making insightful suggestions. Campbell is also adept at helping interpret covers on another level to truly make them your own. As a singer who occasionally has anxiety over singing in front of others, I've always felt at ease recording with Campbell. He has a calming presence and creates a comfortable environment for singers, especially amateur performers. I've been very pleased with the final songs, and it's definitely unique and special to have them produced with real instruments. Friends and other musicians have been very complimentary of the sound and quality. The studio itself is beautiful, and all the equipment is high-grade. There's also an impressive array of instruments including guitars, ukuleles, banjos, even a didgeridoo. It took me years to appreciate my voice, and actually discover I love being on stage and I love recording. Campbell's help was instrumental on this journey. Not only did he provide a great collaborative environment, listened to what I wanted to achieve (my insecurities along the side too), but he guided me through the exploration what I wanted my voice to express and arranged every song we ever worked on together.
