The Village, formerly a Masonic Temple from the 1920's, is one of those places that you pass by every day and would be amazed if you knew what was going in inside. The outside of the building, on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and Butler Ave, is completely unassuming. The interior is very much the opposite. Pool tables, a full bar and other distractions for passing the time and socializing during long recording sessions can be found in the main room. The studios themselves are stunning - but more amazing are the stories behind each of them. Jeff Greenburg, who runs The Village, went through a laundry list of artists that recorded in the studio that we were in. We listened to some original masters of Steely Dan and Pink Floyd tunes that were recorded in that very studio. So cool. To see the full laundry list of artists and albums that were recorded there, check out their website - too many too mention here. Also while I was there, I heard some Tom Jones tunes being played back in one of the other studios, we popped in to listen and I quickly realized that it actually WAS Tom Jones, who was recording with a small jazz ensemble that day. Basically, if you have a chance to work out of this place, you're in for a real treat.

It's brewed in a copper cup and heated by using scalding hot sand. Seriously. They have an electric sandbox machine used to boil the coffee, replicating the traditional Turkish method of brewing coffee from hundreds of years ago. I like the original Turkish Coffee and taking it black. The coffee is so smooth that you don't need milk, and in my opinion you really should experience the full aromatic flavors of the Turkish coffee without the milk covering it up. You get a little butterscotch on the side too. More than just a coffee shop, Endless Noise is a testament to human ingenuity and the creative spirit. Tucked away in what I (for lack of better words) call Santa Monica's "warehouse district," Endless Noise began as strictly a recording studio- and a damn good one too. The owner used to serve Turkish coffee to his clients. One day, he decided to start selling vinyl records to the community. Then, he started offering his Turkish coffee as well. Why not? I've been trying to grab a coffee here for two years, but I always made the mistake of coming on the weekends when they were closed. I don't know why I decided to try again today of all days, on a Monday afternoon. But as I approached the store and saw their door open for the first time, I felt like I was stepping into a dream and taking a break from reality for a bit. Shout out to Aiden, the incredible barista running this joint. What can I say? Endless Noise is good people through and through.

She didn't want to help me over the phone, and that was fine because her attitude was so crap, I didnt even wanna go there. I told her I had the confirmation email even from THEIR site. So instead of providing me customer service she told me forward that to them and they'll respond. First off, I'm not in lighting. So as a person who was in need of renting lights for a teenagers birthday party, to get an email talking about 2500 deposit or 10000 in insurance policy, etc. for a light kit I found at several other places for $80 a day and not all this drama and tension. Glad she turned me off with her rude ass. Now.. the way life works.. I do work in the entertainment business for one of the largest networks. I will be sure to pass word to never mention this place around our offices for any productions or side projects.

I've rented from them on numerous occasions, from cameras, to lenses, to tripods, to sliders, to batteries. In every case, they've delivered what I asked for, at a great price. On one occasion, I rented at 5DII for a fashion shoot, and upon arriving at the shoot, the hot shoe on the camera stopped working, and wouldn't fire my remote strobes. Without the camera, I would have been in bad shape. I called Billy at Stray Angel, and when we couldn't troubleshoot the problem, he couriered another camera body to me asap. The shoot went off without a hitch, the client went home happy. Stray Angel Rocks!
