Just dropped in here today to pick up lunch for myself and some coworkers today; we were all in the mood for some pupusas!!! Came in and there were a couple of people sitting down and eating and there were two ladies working, one behind the counter and one in the kitchen. The lady behind the counter said Hi to me and then asked me if I needed help and my coworkers were going to place an online order but their machine was out. So, luckily I was there and notified them to call and place their orders. I ordered one rueveltas (spell check!) and one queso, they were both delicious and not too greasy and the sauce was amazing and their horchata was also very good and not too milky. The lady even helped me carry all our orders to my car and was very helpful and none of our orders were incorrect! I wish I wasn't working also or else I would've ordered a michelada or a Modelo!!! The BEST Pupusas from 805 to the Valley! I drive 45 minutes just to eat these pupusas. The chicharron y queso are my favorite!! We always order at least two to eat there and at least two to take home. I will call ahead and pick them up if I am driving from the LA to Oxnard/Ventura. We always make sure to get extra crutido (pickled slaw) and salsa. I have been a loyal La Nueva Fogata customer as their pupusas have always been consistently delicious. I used to come here semi-frequently with my parents years ago; I remember the service and food were exponentially better. My partner and I came here at night to order four pupusas and yuca frita with chicharrón. It took 40 minutes for the food to come but it finally came out. I'm guessing the yuca frita was forgotten about in the kitchen because it arrived at the same time as our pupusas and it was lukewarm. I took the plate of yuca frita back to the waitress and explained that it was no longer hot. They put it in the microwave and then brought it back to our table. When you microwave chicharrón, it dries out so it was as if I were chewing and trying to rip apart rubber. The pupusas were freshly made but mediocre in flavor at best. The only reason I gave this a two star review was because the other clients were singing karaoke and overall setting up really good vibes and was enjoyable. But the service and food don't even deserve two stars, this was not worth $41. read more

We come to this place because of their pupusas, and we have been coming for years, and their prices are slightly higher than other pupusas in the valley. I didn't mind paying a little more, but yesterday they went overboard. First, they add a tip when it's only a party of two. Be careful look, or you might double tip, and for the service and the time they take, it's not worth it. They charged for seven pupusas, one bucket of beers, and yuca frita $107.00 con cents. My usual pupusas go-to place was closed tonight, I found this place was open tonight. I called at 5:46 pm, placed my order, the lady taking the phone order said be there in 25 minutes. I went in at 6:10pm, my order wasn't ready(no biggie, right?) at 6:22, I asked her if my order was almost ready since there was one couple dining in. When I asked how much longer for my food to be ready she said another 7 minutes. At 6:34, I walked to the register, the lady rolled her eyes, and rude said " your food still isn't ready". I asked my for money back, got it, placed an order at another restaurant, and for my food in 20 minutes. One of my issue's is how rude the lady was towards me when I asked for my refund. The biggest issue is how after 50 minutes after placing my order over the phone, my food wasn't ready. I wasted my time, the lady didn't bother to offer me a cup of water, or a complimentary anything for the inconvenience. I don't have an issue waiting 45-60 minutes if the restaurant discloses that information from the beginning. The troubling is how there was one couple dinning in. This is usually the Go to Place for Pupusas.. but after the service we had, I'm boycotting. The waitress assumed her memory was great, and didn't write anything down. For starters, I asked for a large Ensalda in a "to go" cup, and my friend asked for a small horchata, in a regular cup, she brought the drinks wrong. Just not to complicate things, I said she cold bring me the large Ensalada.. She didn't write the order down, never apologized for any of the mistakes made, and at the end, apparently she didn't know how to charge the large drinks, we were charged $7 for large drinks (more than a Venti at Starbucks), on top of never apologizing and acknowledging her mistakes, she didn't mention "by the way I screwed up, but I'm still going to charge you for all the mistakes I made. When we asked about certain things charged on the bill, her response was " i don't know, I'm just an employee." She charged two mediums for each Large drink. We paid our bilL, in full. We left a note for the manager to call, and have yet to receive a return call, cause apparently there was no manager at that time. read more

I was having a terrible day. Stressed out, angsty. I walked into La Nueva Fogata for a pupusa and a distraction. Because it was only 5 PM, I had my pick of tables, and once the waiter and I found the right combination of English and Spanish, I ordered a pupusa de jamon y queso (ham and cheese), and because at $1.95 I was worried it wouldn't be enough food, I also ordered platanos con crema y frijoles (plantains with cream and beans). I needn't have worried. The pupusa was the size of a small plate, delicious and filling. When my platanos arrived I knew I'd have to take them home. I gave them a bite anyway--and felt all my worries and my terrible day completely wash away as the fried-sweet-savory combo entered my belly. I discovered Salvadoran comfort food. He remembered this little place from his childhood and after a phone call we learned they are open until 1 am. Sold! We walked in and it was a little disconcerting that a security guard stood in the entryway opening the door for people as they entered. Decor was cute, and it was dimly lit with live music going on and a small dance floor. It alternated between a live singer and regular tracks. I found it charming, though a bit on the loud side. My first Salvadorian food experience. Other than odd decor, worn out table and incredibly loud and annoying live music, the experience over all was very pleasurable. Our server was very friendly and made sure our kids got extra plates too without asking for it. I enjoyed their food very much as well. Snce this is my first time at the Salvadorian place, I am not sure if it's like this over all... But compare to Mexican, they were lighter on the spice as well as less lard smell/taste. It was interesting to dip fried plantains on a sour creme and fried beans. Speaking of fried beans, they were very creamy and smooth. Very yummy. Stuffed bell pepper with pork and vege was very hearty and savory. But I wish there was a bit more spices added to it. Carne asada plate was great! I went for lunch and got the worst food for a Salvadorian restaurant. Ordered the Sopa de Pata. The soup had a greenish color and tasted awful. The waitress gave me a story of how the chiles were cooked...but it was bad. So I ordered 2 pupusas rebueltas. She brought them out in 5 minutes. They looked reheated or had been sitting there for some time. They were mostly made of beans. I showed the waitress and her response was "there is some pork and cheese". Service took forever but that's ok I can understand if they are busy but when I ask for my food to be cancelled and they bring it, I eat it out of courtesy and they charge me $22 for a cocktail of all tomatoes. Seriously? Sopa de pata was the worst I've ever had in my entire life. Ever!!!! Waited over an hour for our food and to be slammed for over $85 bill which half was horrible food. We have been ordering from here for several years now. The pupusas are pretty good. We ordered in the after at about 1:50 pm on a Saturday so we knew it would be busy. They took my order over the phone and said they were busy so it would be 45 mins. We were fine with that. Get there's about 2:40 and wait to pay as there is a line for that too. Finally pay and they say they will check how much longer it will be. Let's say at about 3:25 we still don't have our food. So another 45 minutes waiting and no food. We asked to speak with the owner, one of the staff said she was there and another said she wasn't there, who says the food is being boxed right now let me get you a free drink. With that said I asked for my money back as our food was still not out. I will still say I like the pupusas here, they just need to fix their wait times and I know they may be short staffed but be honest. They have unfortunately lost a customer. This is one of those places where the food definitely trumps the service. I can wait way too long for food here, so I actually try to avoid coming in at all- I call about 15 minutes ahead to order my favorites, and then I get my tasties without the frustration. She didn't give her name but she had a ponytail and a black sweater with a gold sequin deer on it. She gave attitude when we asked about a menu item. She never checked on us when she dropped the food.
