Chilaquiles
Jessica V.

This is a hole-in-the wall type of restaurant. It's very small, and it's tough to find parking but you're able to find some across the street. The food didn't taste bad; however, I'm personally not used to eating food from Guatemala. Its a taste you have to acquire, I went on a Saturday and there was live music, so it was hard to hear the people in my party talk, but it's enjoyable if you like live music.

Sunny side up eggs with sour cream, beans, and longanisa
Yvonne W.

I was at VNY on business and stopped by here for lunch! Ordered the sunny side up eggs with longanisa and beans. There were also fresh fluffy corn tortillas that I loooved (not pictured). The only reason for the drop in the star was that it was an unusually long wait for the food considering we were one of the only new customers in the restaurant, maybe 20 mins?

Abuelitas Main Course: rib eye steak, carne adobada, chile relleno, homemade sausage, guacamole, plantains, and beans and rice.
David P.

When I go to a restaurant I haven't dined at before I always like to try several different things. Abuelitas makes this easy with their "Abuelitas Main Course" (Especial de la casa) which features a nice variety of Guatemalan dishes. Included on this marvelous platter are a thin cut Rib Eye steak, Carne Adobada, homemade sausage, a chile relleno, guacamole, fried plantains, and beans and rice. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The chile relleno had meat in it making it surprisingly unique compared to the relleno I've had in Mexican restaurants. There was so much food I took the Carne Adobada and the plantains home with me. I also ordered the appetizer sampler for take out. This took up 2 large to go containers and featured mini garnachas, enchiladas, taquitos, a chuchito, a chiplin tamale, and fried plantains. These were all delicious as well. The restaurant was busy but the servers were all friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. Prices were very reasonable for the generous portions.

Atol de Platano (on the top) & Atol de Elote (on the bottom)
Marisela C.

Everything we were served was delicious. We tried the Atol de Platano (not for diabetics) for the first time and it was great - it's a little thick, warm and sweet...just the perfect blend The Atol de Elote was just as good. My fiancé and I shared the House Special with a few meats and even a stuffed chili relleno with meats veggies and great spices. I'm a fan of chili rellenos- the filling was well blended with chicken. We recommend anything we had. Can't wait to visit Abuelitas again!

This page shows there's a link on their website called "order online"
Yanira P.

Online order announcement: do not order from their website! Their website links you to "Clorder" for online delivery, and the delivery is fulfilled by DoorDash. I placed an order online today at 5:30pm, only to get a call just now at 7pm from DoorDash that my order has been cancelled because they never received it. I then call the restaurant and speak with someone who confirms that they no longer use Clorder, and I should instead order from Postmates or Uber. The restaurant should turn off the link which appears DIRECTLY ON THEIR PERSONAL WEBSITE (pic attached) and rectify this situation immediately. I paid via PayPal and was charged immediately, and now I have to go through PayPal to get a refund, I'm still hella hungry, and have to do a plan B on dinner tonight. Damn you guys cause the food is pretty good (though Kakik too salty sometimes), but this is a massive online order fail.

Frank M.

The dish I ordered was tasty, the drinks were good, the waiter who treated us friendly. I give them four stars for the parking lot and the place where it is located.

Food comes out quickly, which makes the whole experience even better. There isn't a single thing I've ordered here that I didn't love. They also offer deals on certain days, which is a nice bonus. Allison and Maritza provide exceptional service and truly make you feel taken care of. They give prima vibes and I'm here for it! It was right next door to my appointment and I thought I'd give it a try while waiting for my mom to finish up with her pedicure. They are $3.50 per tamale and it took approximately 10 minutes for my order of two to come out. I think they were steaming them. The restaurant was quite large and there was only one other customer there at about 4 PM on a Thursday. They had the ARV playing on the TVs and have bar seating. The service was friendly. Tamale is 8.5/10: it's packed with a lot of really fun, filling items, like a green bean, potato, olive, and hominy with white meat chicken. The chicken is a little bit dry. But the tamale is very flavorful!

The ordering process was quick and easy, and my food was ready right on time when I arrived. I was in and out with no hassle, which I really appreciated. Each bite had a great mix of flavor and freshness. If you're looking for a tasty and affordable Taco Tuesday option, this online special is definitely worth it. I'll absolutely be ordering again!

I got a whole chicken with the sides and I decided to try the Peruvian ceviche. The chicken was good, seasoning was there. It was already precut for me so that's was kind. I was really looking forward to the ceviche and it was not good. The lime juice or the leche de Tigre was very bitter, and it just didn't taste good... Something was off about the ceviche, perhaps it spoiled quickly as my drive back home was an hour, i unfortunately had to throw it away because it did not taste edible. Service is quite friendly, and quick. I'd come give it a second try for the ceviche, maybe it was not the freshest batch or my commute was too long but I don't think food spoils that rapidly. Either way I definitely recommend the rotisserie chicken with the sides!

Ambiance: The interior has a relaxed feel with beachy surfer themed decor. It has a clean modern feel with a bunch of tables featuring accent colored chairs. There is music in the background and a TV on the wall featuring surfing videos. Service: You order at the counter, they ring you up and you get the food brought out. You can see the kitchen as it's open. It was my first time and it was a simple and easy experience. Everything came out in a timely fashion. Food: Some of their specialities include the 20+variations of fried empanadas (meats, chicken, pork, veggie, dessert) that come in both savory and sweet types, as well as their speciality plates such as their Korean-style flat iron steak skewers and chicken satay. The sauces they serve with their empanadas are incredible and some of the best I've ever had such as their chimmi-churri, basil-aioli and sweet & sour Thai. I recently did the lunch combo featuring a choice of a 1/2 salad or 1/2 fries, choice of any two empanadas and a canned drink. I chose beef and Kailua pig empanadas; both were great, empanadas didn't break apart and were crispy, everything was seasoned well; the filling of the beef was a bit more than the Kailua pig however. Drinks: They have various drinks such as lemonade, juices, sodas/soft drinks, and some beers on tap. Parking: The lot is large and has ample parking depending on the day and time. Prices: Prices are to the times that we're in...so not too great. Ala carte empanadas are $5+ but as you order more (4, 12) the prices come down a slight bit.

My server, Luis, was outstanding throughout the visit... friendly, attentive, and always making sure I had everything I needed. His excellent service really elevated the overall experience. The highlight of my meal was easily the breakfast steak and eggs with potatoes. The steak was flavorful, prepped well, and paired perfectly with the eggs and crispy potatoes. The coffee was also very good and complemented the breakfast nicely. Before the meal, I was served a sweet bread with cream and berry topping, which was a nice touch and a tasty way to start. I also tried the skirt steak with a side salad on a different day. While the steak had some flavor, it was much heavier than expected, and unfortunately the same can be said of the side salad. The silver lining in this instance was the french baguette, which was fresh enough but nothing particularly memorable. As far as desserts, I had the tiramisu, and it was fantastic. It was light, creamy, and the perfect ending to the meal (steak and eggs). Even though not every dish was a home run. the phenomenal breakfast, excellent tiramisu, very good coffee, welcoming atmosphere, and exceptional service from Luis made this an easy place to recommend.
