This place feels like your mom is cooking in the kitchen…read more.. I've tried multiple plates...and each plate was delicious, well portioned, flavorful, delectable...I can go on. First thing you cannot beat the prices. Enchilada plates for $7... fajita plates for $8...The fajita is cooked to order when I went so it comes out with a nice sizzle. The refried beans have that nice sheen on it which means lard was used to cook them...making them so tasty. The rice looked fluffy...the veggies in them do not taste from frozen and the rice was perfectly cooked. They also make their own tortillas. I went with flour...and who doesn't love just mixing in everything all at once...little bit of fajita, some beans, some rice...that taco was a bite of heaven. The enchiladas are amazing...I had suizas with chicken inside. Most places use shredded chicken as a filler...but it's usually boiled or not seasoned. The lady used pollo guisado for the filling...so it went perfect with the salsa and the cheese. Bomba! And the menudo...I'll be honest, what threw me off was the texture of the menudo. It was very soft ...but I cannot complain. It had layers of flavors...the tripe was soft..no fat on it. It was clean and perfectly cooked...with lime on it, perfect dish for a Sunday morning. I will say...the place is small. But I won't knock it for that. Biggest table is only for 4 people and it'll be a tight fit...but hey, get it to go. Not a problem... And customer service is the best. I've stopped multiple times, and want to try all their dishes. I recommend the same for everyone.

This is the kind of place that would be a great fit in San Diego, CA area. Just throwing that out there for the franchise consideration. Service was impeccable. Staff was Dressed to impress, always on standby from the sidelines. Ambience was almost similar to a speakeasy vibe- except for the music, which was more current. Music was Low enough to have a conversation. Decor was simply beautiful with great intention - representing a large dark tree with branches made of wood slates dropped down across the ceiling. Our server was named "America". She was personable and kind. The drink menu has Variety of wines and Old Fashion cocktails options. The old fashioned was One of the best we've had and in our top five of favorites. The food was amazing! Just a delicious flavor and presentation. We are not professionals in the industry. We are two retirees who love great food, experiences, and service. If you're not rating this place five stars on food alone- maybe you're missing fine dining experiences in your life. Thank you for bringing two great restaurants (Ambra & ll Forno) to McAllen! You don't find these gems often in the Valley and wish we found it much sooner. Waiting with anticipation that you open further Southwest!!

Began with their Caesar salad which was delicious and the perfect portion, the dressing was fantastic! Then had the salmon dish - I was not a fan of the salmon itself as it was a bit bland but the blistered tomato and orzo sides was delicious! Service was good , lovely atmosphere and overall good food

Just be aware that the lunch special does not include the sashimi/nigiri options. The interior has great lighting and it is very lively. It's not too noisy and there's plenty of parking around the corner as well. My main complaint about Umiya is that the service here is hit or miss. Sometimes I would get a waiter/waitress who would constantly check-up on me and ask about what I wanted to order. Other times, the waiter/waitress would rarely come by my table to take my order. If there could be some more consistency in the service, then that would greatly enhance the customer all-you-can-eat experience. In regards to the food, I highly recommend getting a cup of their miso soup since it's not too salty and has a good amount of tofu and seaweed. It has a good balance of savoriness. I highly recommend trying their rainbow roll, yummy roll, and shaggy dog roll too. The rolls are made to order and they have always come out fresh during my visits. I haven't had a bad tasting roll Don't forget to get some ice cream too for dessert because their green tea ice cream has a nice natural earthy tone to its flavor profile.

First of all the decor in the aesthetic is absolutely gorgeous and perfect. It feels like you're in another country, like really in Japan! The food is very good and very fresh. I think the folks that work there really get into the vibe of the place and are very friendly.
