This is ALL YOU CAN EAT so you do have to finish what ever you ordered. I suggest order 2-3 small dishes at a time. They do allow a la cart options on a different menu. But this review is the AYCE experience only. My mom and I came here twice in one week. After the first time, I learned to just go for the sashimi, they are great and beautifully decorated. Some of the other dishes weren't too bad. It's more for comfort food. It's $30 a person so it's a pretty good deal for what they serve. The service is in the works. They just opened about a week or two ago from this post. There is no time limit so come in knowing to be patience . When they take your order, they send it via iPad. Sometimes the chefs miss one or two so just keep a mental note so you won't accidentally triple order the same dish and ask your waiter/waitress what's the update. Personality wise, they're super nice and sweet. My mom and a great time talking to the owner and a few of the other staff. The place is clean and they clear your table as you finish your dishes. Quite literally the best lunch deal you can find in McAllen. For an AYCE experience, $18.95 is truly unbeatable. The menu is extremely extensive, and I love that sashimi is also included in the AYCE experience, which is very rare in many places. My family and I came for Black Friday lunch, and while extremely packed, the waiters had no trouble accommodating our group of 11 people! They were extremely kind and were very quick to handle all of our orders. They brought all of our items, despite the large amounts we were ordering. They did have some weird items on here that weren't as tasty as I expected, such as the spicy tuna roll and calamari. I am not used to having cucumber in my spicy tuna rolls, so I made sure to remove before eating. My favorite dishes were the unagi and edamame. Please skip out on the spicy garlic edamame and only eat the regular, I definitely made that mistake! I would 100% come back here if I were craving some sushi. read more

We experienced Umiya Sushi thanks to some great local area friends. WOW, was it wonderful. Our server Andy was awesome, he knew his menu & was extremely helpful in making recommendations. The food was exceptional. All you can eat & boy did we eat. Every order from tempura shrimps, hibachi beef/shrimp, eel, octopus, seaweed salad & crab puff was delicious. We were there on a Saturday night the restaurant was busy (2 birthdays were being celebrated in the restaurant) but the atmosphere was perfect for conversation & excellent food service. At this point I would say my family are somewhat regulars at Umiya on 10th St. Our first experience there was with our compadres who also have a toddler. For parents of small children, I can assure that on an empty stomach you can easily get your moneys worth of a meal here while your child (under 5) eats free. We visit Umiya at least once a month or so. A funny thing about Umiya Sushi is that I personally am not a sushi fan myself. My wife on the other hand LOVES sushi. For all my non-sushi folks, Umiya has so many options for hibachi, noodles, fried rice, chicken, etc. I will say for "buffet" style food, it tastes amazing. The "all you can eat" portions are served in small quantities which is actually good to avoid wasting food. This way you can eat and try as many options of their menu without overeating too much. Cost wise, the dinner "all you can eat" menu which includes pretty much all options of non-sushi foods is $28.95 (+tax) for adults and $16.95 (+tax) for kids age 5-10. There is a limited lunch "all you can eat" menu from Monday-Saturday 11:00a to 3:30p that is less [$18.95 (+tax) for adults and $10.95 (+tax) for kids]. There is also the option to order straight off the menu "a la carte" if you choose to opt out of the "all you can eat" option. The restaurant itself has a very modern, "cool" vibe to it. There are booths and tables to sit at. I've seen large party groups get arranged in the middle of the booths. If you celebrate your birthday here, they will come out with drums and employees to sing you happy birthday with a nice Tempura Oreo on a decorated plate. The staff have in my experience always given excellent service! You will typically have a waitstaff person come take your order and then other folks come out to bring your food. Overall, I give Umiya a 10/10 for excellent food, great service, and a cool vibe! Side note: There is a location opening up in Pharr that will be much closer to me. This new location is going to be where the Wing Daddy's used to be by the Costco and Lowe's area. It looks like the outside is keeping the same building so I look forward to seeing what the inside will look like. read more

I will elaborate, close your eyes and picture this beautiful Asian style restaurant the lighting is amazing there's a ceramic cat statue took a hard pic witit. There's cherry blossom looking trees, the symmetry is very admirable. They got me and my family a seat very quickly. I got the all you can eat, (30$dinner), I ate a lot. Umiya has a great lunch deal as it costs only $18.95 for an all you can eat menu that has great variety. You do, however, risk losing quality at such a low price. I'm a big fan of asian food & the food was 3.5/5 stars. The fried calamari was my favorite. The place is partially decorated nicely. It does look overly crowded and a bit tacky. Do not mistake this restaurant for a fancy night out, it is a casual, family or lunch date, restaurant. I got all three plates that I ordered with 5 minutes of ordering each of them. My partner did not. He received all 3 plates he ordered in 15-20 minutes. We did not mind the wait. Our waiter was great! If you are a fan of buffets and understand that great prices sometimes mean a little less quality, you will probably be coming back to this restaurant after your first time. read more

Went here on Mother's Day. First impression was great and the service wasn't bad. For an all you can eat, it's not bad and the quality of food is a lot better than most all you can eat places that make your food the second you ask the servers. Is it restaurant style quality? No. But it's good enough as I mentioned above. The fried rice we ordered to my surprise due to its color, isn't salty. However, a slight downside, is you need to finish whatever dish you order. Otherwise, they will charge you full price. So pick carefully. The price depending on when you go is up for debate as you will be spending at least $30 per person on dinner and weekends. $20 plus during lunch hours and you're limited by what you can order. The atmosphere refreshing. Not too muggy I suppose if that's what you call it. I wish the place had Takoyaki to order but that's just a personal preference. I won't lower it by a star. read more

Waiter charged us for all you can eat after taking forever on our orders all night. he acts weird about it and argues for a second that it will be cheaper even though we ordered minimal stuff(order came out to 90) so bill would be 120 for the 4. Not only that after the weird bill talk we ask him a third time for our guests drink which she never got in her meal. He comes back condescendingly puts it down and taps me if there's anything else I need. As if any little bit of service has been done. After that he comes back crawling (cuz the bills coming) and starts a sob story about the kitchen being backed and blaming the hostess and manager as if the wait was the issue and not him sucking at his job. I was only there eating for about 30 or so minutes before. After a while of waiting I got up and left. That was my only complaint. I wish I was able to try more things there. Sushi-wise, this place was a real miss for me. Price-wise, you get a lot for your buck. The service was great and the food came out fast. The ambiance is inviting and clean. However, none of what I ordered hit the mark. The handrolls lacked flavor. The edamame tasted and had a texture like they had been sitting around for a while. The individual rolls did not have any depth in flavor. And the desert tasted like fried nothing. It seemed like everything was premade and perhaps that why everything came out super fast. My sister and I went for lunch yesterday and decided to try the Lunch Special Buffet in McAllen-- it was absolutely worth it! The rolls were top-notch, and the pricing was much better compared to Yasuke, which we usually love. The rolls arrived quickly, likely premade, but the quality was still excellent. My favorite was the Bamboo Roll. I'm not a fan of Kurai due to their overuse of cream cheese, so I really appreciated the great selection of rolls without it-- everything was fire! This place is officially my new favorite sushi spot. I didn't take any photos, but a picture wouldn't have done it justice. Even the crab rangoon (aka crab puffs) were made with love--you could tell they were carefully and beautifully crafted. I really appreciated their dedication to presentation. On top of that, our server, CJ was truly exceptional welcoming from the start, always checking in at just the right moments.
