Recommended strongly by several people we met in Lisbon, this did not disappoint. Although we had reservations for 7 PM, there were a few seats open by the window with beautiful views of the city. Reportedly, these are the best views in town. We ordered wine to start, then Veal with Mushroom sauce, a Rib Eye, two orders of grilled vegetables, and French fries. I didn't try the veal, but it looked fantastic and I was told it was great. The Rib Eye was well marbles, and had a great taste. It was cooked perfectly - medium rare, and was tender. The star of the meal were the grilled vegetables - peppers, onions, and absolutely perfect mushrooms. I can't neglect the fries - hand-cut, crisp, and well seasoned. The portions were large, and the cost was reasonable by US Standards. Between the delicious food and the wonderful views, I highly recommend La Paparrucha to any Lisbon visitor! read more

She gave us some suggestions with our food choices and were phenomenal. The ribeye I had was incredible. My wife had the fillet with mushroom sauce and she loved it. Our friend had a unique dish with squash chick peas overfish. We got mushroom and pesto linguine to share and that was amazing. The pork ap was really good too. We ordered a few drinks and they did a great job on them too. Dirty martini and chocolate martini were top notch. I can't say enough good things about our experience. Made a res on The Fork (great OpenTable type app from TripAdvisor.) Loved our big family dinner here. Server (didn't get his name but his dad was from Massachusetts) was just fantastic. Food and drink all quite good. Menu is on an iPad with picture and ingredient info! Helpful for those with allergies. View is amazing. Would return for the patio alone. La Paparrucha took great care of us. We were greeted so warmly, offered a seat and an aperitif while our table was being prepared. I had requested a nice table for our last night in Portugal, and they did not disappoint. You would not assume from the outside that this restaurant owned such an amazing view! This really is a meat place, and it did not disappoint. I do not eat red meat, and the fish selection was limited to two in addition to a few pastas. My husband's filet was amazing, according to him, and my salmon filet was perfect. We were too stuffed for dessert, but we ordered coffee and port, so we could enjoy the view a bit longer. I think an evening here would be perfect for any special occasion, but we also saw families with small children, as well. So, this restaurant really is for any time you want to have a pleasant evening with great food, wine and ambiance. read more

We were happy to land in Lisbon on Christmas, visiting for the first time. I made a reservation at La Paparrucha a month prior noticing that many restaurants were booked on Christmas day. I was happy to find a late reservation at La Paparrucha and booked it for 9pm. We arrived on time and were met by an unwelcoming manager who kept questioning whether we had a reservation-- he said he didn't see our name in the system and left the lobby area to "see if there are any tables" for us. My family and I waited in the lobby while he went elsewhere. A hostess came and asked if we needed to be helped. I explained that we have a reservation and that the manager went to check for a table. She was disingenuous because she already knew that and said "we don't see you in the system" and asked me for proof. I showed her the confirmation email from my phone and she asked to show it to her manager. She did, and then we were seated. I was so upset to walk into an EMPTY RESTAURANT- LESS THAN 50% OCCUPIED and it only got more empty as the night went on- the restaurant was never filled. This is what DISCRIMINATION can look like. They sat us at the least desirable table in the room, near the register and stairwell, a highly trafficked area in the middle of the dining room. There were multiple tables near the windows with great views where all but one table remained empty the whole time we were there. Why not allow guests from another country enjoy the views of your great city and frankly the best of what you have to offer, especially if it's possible? The manager walked around looking quite intense and unpleasant. He never stopped by our table to apologize for their "system glitch" that didn't recognize our reservation, or thank us for our patience, or thank us for providing our proof of reservation. He never spoke to us again after challenging the reservation. And then on top of that- THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE!!!! I can't believe the ratings this place has, but I wonder if the kitchen gave us their least best effort. Everything was unseasoned and bland and didn't carry the grilled favor the menu promised. Meat lovers, find another restaurant to eat- you'll be disappointed and THIS PLACE GIVES A BAD NAME TO ARGENTINIAN CUISINE. Fellow vegans, you'll be disappointed too- they couldn't even get roasted vegetables right! Trust me, La Paparrucha was our only hope on Christmas day- everything else was booked or my family and I would have left immediately. Our server was kind and worked around language barriers - thank you Google translate! I appreciated that she made sure to account for allergies and provide a wine suggestion. But we certainly knew we were targeted as Americans when she asked if we would tip her. We did tip her even though that's not a thing in Europe and despite how we were treated by the manager. I regret tipping in hindsight because it was a bad experience and terrible food-- but that wasn't the fault of the server, so we tipped when she asked for it. To top off our experience, a GIANT ROACH appeared and scurried around the dining room just as we were paying the bill. So symbolic of this place! I wish I could give ZERO STARS. read more

We had poked out heads in to this scenic steakhouse while on a walking tour. Our guide and concierge both recommended it. The restaurant was surprisingly empty for a Saturday night. We were brought to the upstairs dining room. The view was simply amazing. We had a scene of nighttime Lisbon on 3 sides. The waitstaff were really nice, even after I dumped a glass of red wine all over the place. We had been in Portugal long enough that we were tired of starting with bread and cheese. The staff were nice enough to offer it to us instead of it just being on out table. We split green salads to start. The balsamic glaze was delicious and the vegetable were fresh and crisp. The steak was really good. My wife had the tenderloin, one friend had the ribeye. My buddy and I split the Buenos Aires combination. Everything was cooked perfectly. The steak was a bit heavily salted for my taste, but it wasn't a deal breaker. The side dishes were OK. The grilled vegetables were best. The french fries and cauliflower gratin were solid. We shared a dulce de leche crepe for dessert. The restaurant was a fair value for the price. Our waiter pointed us to a small terrace adjoining the dining room so that we could sit outside and take in the view for a while after dinner. It's worth going here for the view and nice service. We were ready for a change from typical Portuguese food and this filled the bill. It's an above average steakhouse and made for a very nice evening. read more

The best thing about this place is the view. It's on a the second or third floor of a building on a hill and has a great view of the water. I could sit out there all day. I ordered a glass of wine, the spinach croquettes and the scallops. Nothing was above average. The scallops were undercooked, so I asked them to cook them longer. They were better then, but were rather plain in flavor. The croquettes were just meh, but they were only like 5 euros, so an affordable quick snack. The waiter was friendly, but the service was a bit slow. I think it's worth stopping in for a relaxing afternoon snack with a view, but don't expect to be blown away. read more

It was our last evening in Lisboa and we could not have chosen a better place for our last dinner. We were greeted at the door by super friendly staff who offered a drink while we waited. The furniture and decor are perfect for the restaurant with cow fur bands across the walls and leather chairs. You know you will be eating beef when you enter the place. However it works and gives it a good charm. After a short wait we were invited to sit in the lower level which had already a great view over the city. However there is an upper floor and even a terrace which should provide some equally great seating options. The waiters were helpful and very friendly presenting us the different meats and offering tips on the choices at hand. We both had different kinds of lombo beef and they were both delicious. The meat was tender and juicy, the sauces perfectly complimenting the quality of the meat. After our meal we indulged in the dulce de leche crepes which were fabulous as well as the came with a beautiful lemon Chantilly which complemented the caramel taste beautifully. Overall a great quality and delightful place with lovely staff. We are definitely planning on going again. read more

Terrible food! Way over priced! These guys should go to a truly wonderful restaurant such as "Open" restaurant in Inspire Hotel. On arrival at La Paparrucha there was a basket of bread, very common in any restaurant esp in Europe. Also 3 slides of salami, 3 slices of cheese, small bowl of olive tapenade and a small bowl of some white spread (tasted like cheese and onion?) We placed our order and my steak was tough. Hard to explain. Just a lot of sinue or gristle? Just well below average for what they were asking I thought and after eating our meal simply wanted to leave. That's when we realised the items on the table, that we didn't ask and thought they were complementary, were not complementary. There was several additions on our bill and when we questioned it we were told "This is normal in Portugal" "We put it out before you arrived, you ate it and you pay". Let me tell you this is not normal to give customers something they didn't ask for and add it to the bill. Not only is it not normal, based on our experience of 6 plus restaurants that we visited since being here, it's not normal after discussing this with others that are local to Portugal. Terrible restaurant. . The food was below average and expecting top dollar and then trying to say this is "normal" in Portugal! Really nothing to get excited about an Avoid at all cost, unless of course you like below average food and enjoy paying top dollar with additions you didn't ask for. Truly the 6 weeks of travelling through Europe has been such a gastronomic delight. Every restaurant through Paris and Spain has been beyond outstanding however, this restaurant was a massive disappointment. read more

A quality steak in Portugal. I am an American and we are a fairly uppity people about our steaks. I am also not fond of the European tendency to drown steaks in sauce; the meat should be able to stand alone on its own merits. La Paparrucha is the closest dining establishment in Lisbon to offer a hearty, American style steak without the drowning sauce. This is also ironic because the establishment purports itself to be an Argentine restaurant. The first thing you'll notice about this restaurant is the décor. It is most un-European and reminded me much of an American steakhouse. So far so good. On the way to the 2nd floor (which has a great view of the city, including the Sao Jorge castle to the east, insist on sitting up there if there is room even if the staff says its a "smoking" floor) you can catch a glimpse of the grillman and his grill, which I thought was reassuring. Although I am not a standard monolingual American, I do not speak any of the romance languages. Fortunately the waitstaff here speaks great English (as do many places in this country, which rocks). I ordered the tri-tip and it was fantastic. Most famously done as a cowboy cut in the Santa Maria style, theirs is sliced up and grilled to perfection evenly according to customer taste. The meat was juicy and delicious. Additionally, the side of grilled veggies I ordered was substantial and seasoned in a manner that indicated it was more than just an afterthought. If I had to complain it would be that the steak was a little oversalted, but not more so than you would find in a steakhouse here in the US. Although pricey, if you are an uncouth American looking for a good steak in a seafood dominated city I recommend La Paparrucha without reservation. read more

Amazing views over the city. But service was poor, and food was barely ok. We ordered the steak for two which came out on a platter with coals under it. So even though we had ordered it medium rare by the time it came to our table some cuts were were medium well to well done. The server did not carve the meat for us and when we asked them to he clumsily proceeded to do so with a puny knife on the charcoal-heated platter - during which exercise he splashed the juice all over my shirt. When we showed him that the steak was well-done he played Chinese whisper with two other servers and the maitre'd so we had to explain to each of them what the issue was. The maitre'd even argued with us that the steak was rare when it was clear that it was not. Annoying! The sent us replacement - we asked for it to be carved in the kitchen and put on plates instead of on the charcola platter thingy - took us a few attempts to explain that charcoal under a platter will only keep cooking the steak. Eventually, of the three cuts of meat that we were served on or plates, only two were good. The third was gristly. Not sure if they were having a bad day or we are picky eaters but given that we spent €100, would have expected at least a decent steak. Disappointing! read more

Very very bad service. When bringing the mains our waiter knocked over a glass of red wine to my shirt, pants, shoes and jacket. He was apologetic and helped me clean my clothes but it took 15 minutes and the food got cold and meat overcooked on the table top grill. The table was "cleaned" but there was still red wine on it when I came back. I was shocked when I got the bill because it was full price and had no compensation of any kind. I asked for the manager and he reluctantly gave a measly 15% discount. He said that I could bring my clothes to him the next day for cleaning but when I said it is not possible because I'm a tourist he was arrogant and dismissive and offered no alternative. I would not recommend this place to anyone because here you still pay full price after ruined clothes and food. A tourist scam. read more

This is great steakhouse in the principe real area. The quality of the meat is top notch. I don't know if it was because it was lunch time but the service i felt was better the first time i visited and it was during dinner time. Lunch time service was more casual. The ac was off in which i did not notice but my best friend was a tad uncomfortable on a warm day. This is always a place that i want to come eat at when i visit Portugal and i was sad to find out that they altered the menu slightly and removed the the best dessert in my opinion on the menu which was a homemade chocolate mousse and hands down the best chocolate mousse I've ever encountered. We went to Paparrucha after a recommendation from a friend. We were disappointed. The service was very hit and miss, despite the restaurant being very quiet. Our order was mixed up twice and items were slow to arrive. The food when it came was also disappointing. The steaks were over cooked and chewy and the baked potato was hard. The vegetables were cold when they arrived. The line cheesecake was bland and stodgy. The wrong drinks were brought and when the bill arrived we were overcharged to the tune of €31 with items from other tables added to our bill. This was quickly rectified, but should not have happened at all. The view was amazing but everything else, not so much. read more

Outstanding!!! Best steak in Lisbon by a mile. We've eaten here twice during our trip to Lisbon and we're thrilled by the service and the quality of the steaks. We also ate at Cafe Buenos Aires during our stay and there's no comparison. As a very heavy American traveller, have to say this is a very, very good steak for a reasonable price...especially relative to steak in America. The staff and host are also fantastic...my family and I have never felt more welcome in a restaurant....only wish this place was back home! Highly recommend the tenderloin...exceptional.
