My husband and I checked out La Parrilla Kitchen tonight and really enjoyed the food. When you walk in, you order at the counter. They have QR codes to look at the menu or there is a photo menu on the wall. For drinks, we saw they had Auga de Mango, which is one of my favorites, so we had two. She asked if we wanted a large and let me tell you, it was LARGE, but I loved it! Great mango flavor... and just what I was expecting. We got an order of Chips & Guacamole, which also came with Salsa. You could tell everything was homemade (the chips too) and it was delicious. For entrees, my husband got the Enchiladas Suizas, which he said were good. The rice and beans that came with it was pretty standard and there was a nice little salad. I had the Quesa Birria Plate, which the lady recommended. It was really good. The tortillas were fried crispy, there was a ton of meat & cheese inside, and the soup to dip them in was very flavorful. I've had Birria several times recently, as it seems to be pretty trendy right now and I thought this was nicely done. My only complaint is that I should have worn a bib, because I splashed delicious Birria soup all over my shirt! Overall, the service was very friendly, portions were large, it was obvious that the cooks take pride in what they put out, and the prices seemed very reasonable at $46 (before tip) for everything listed in my review. We were on the NE side of Portland and were looking for a place to eat lunch... the reviews brought us in, and we're so happy to have found this place. The minute we walked in, we knew it would be an authentic restaurant. The menu (with pictures) is on the wall as you enter. We got excellent friendly service and ordered our food. The items we ordered were delicious - fresh and seasoned perfectly. The meat, chicken, fish and shrimp were all nice cuts and fresh. The side items tasted great and the food was served nice and hot. The jamaica drinks were soooo good and refreshing. Prices are reasonable, food is great and the service is excellent... no wonder it has 5 stars. Definitely recommend! read more

I have been there 2 times so far and they were closed both times! The 1st time it was my fault because I slept in too-long. The 2nd time I looked ahead and it said they closed at 9:00! And I wake in the heat all the way to this restaurant and they were closed and it was only 6:20! How can you say on your app that you close at this time when you closed earlier? Yumm. This place has super tasty food. The decor is pretty darn bad, but the good food makes it worth it. The prices are very affordable. I enjoyed some fish tacos that were good because the fish was grilled not fried. The only down side is the fish had that murky tilapia flavor. In any event it was seasoned enough to mask the weird tilapia flavor. I live on the other side of town, but if it was closer I'd come here regularly. read more

Well I'm going to give it to these guys. They threw down some good grub. We ordered a bunch of stuff from here and it all tasted as good as it looked. If you like soft, moist flavorful carnitas then be real happy that you can get that here. I almost never get carnitas from an unknown place because I hate when its dry and hard but I took my chances because I was indecisive. Boom I'm glad I gambled. Finally got to check this place out after reading glowing reviews on the Nextdoor app, and it didn't disappoint. Menu seems pretty huge, but maybe just because it's on the wall. Prices seemed reasonable, about $9-11 for a loaded burrito. We had the La Parrilla (steak and shrimp) and Chicken Fajita Burrito. Both were huge and loaded with well cooked ingredients. The peppers in the fajita still had a little crunch to them, and the chicken was well grilled. I loved it. My tastes of the Steak & Shrimp were equally good. Everything had a well prepared, fresh taste. Not what you'd expect based on the less then enticing window pictures and decor. The salsas & sauces weren't anything exciting, but they did have chips and salsa for the table. The cherry on top were the drinks. I had the Horchata, and loved it (free refills too!), and my friend had the strawberry milkshake, which was pretty legit. Great burrito competition just down the block, but I was won over enough to come back, for sure. read more

We were pleased to finally try out our new neighborhood restaurant. Friendly staff and bold color walls makes the otherwise subpar building on busy 82nd Ave come alive. We need more local businesses like this in our neighborhood. The food was prepared quickly and the presentation was appetizing. This is one of those grey zone, on-the-fence between a 3 and 4 Star places. The owner is cool so ya kinda want to give them the edge. Moreover, it's better than Americanized or Portland-up-and-coming-chef-with-huge-markup Mexican food. Yet, it falls just short after two tries. You'd think that since they're located in one of the grimier sections of 82nd that the experience would scream value. It's seems like almost every item is $1-$2 more than at established competing places. For example, $4 for churros is just silly. Breakfast burritos are $8/$9, while hamburgers are $9. I asked if they serve breakfast tacos (recommended by another Yelp reviewer) as they weren't on the menu(s), and he said, "sure, we can make those." How much? "Mmm....how about $2?" So consistency and formula isn't their thing. Hey, an A for effort. In the end, the tacos tasted average, piled too high, and thus fell apart after one bite. That said, the Avocado Chilaquiles were decent. They are served with soft, fluffy rice and black beans, but overall the portion is small. Moreover, I prefer the eggs sunny side versus scrambled for this dish. The green sauce is a far cry from that at Santo Domingo which sets the standard for this staple. The complimentary small bowl of fresh fried chips with a meh-grocery-store style salsa is a nice touch. Is it a hole-in-the-wall? It's quite spacious, so no on that definition. But it does have handwritten menu signs all over the walls and is located next to sketchy Natural "Manual" Massage (mmm, I wonder if they accept tips?). Table hot sauce is the usual trio of boring. Unfortunately, their homemade red and green salsas weren't that good. One of Portland's most underrated Mexican eateries is about one block north and to the right so they have tough local competition for I'm looking forward to trying their acclaimed breakfast burrito. read more

I tried their Quesa Birria plate and nachos today, and my companion tried their enchiladas. We also had their churros and flan. I was not impressed with the birria; it was just a single large quesadilla with birria meat fried up, and both the consommé and meat were only okay. Maybe I am spoiled by all the food trucks around, but I was hoping for better and wanted an inside place due to the cold. Both the nachos and flan were mostly okay, but I have had better, and the churro was excellent. My companion said her enchilada was good. So, this place is fairly new. I just had to try it. It one of those places that you kind of want to keep a secret because its just that good. But, I also want to shout from the roof tops about how good it is. Its right across the street from another taco place, which has recently went out of business. Which this place is a million times better. I ordered the breakfast tacos, and my friend got the chorizo and eggs. Chips and salsa were promptly delivered and devoured. Omg! Those tacos, super fresh and delicious. Both dished came with a potatoe hash full of fresh ingredients. I will definitely be back. For two dishes and a soda, it was 21 dollars. Order two orders of the beef taquitos, a Carne Asada burrito, a shrimp and Carne Asada plate, and two tacos on the side. I ordered with Uber eats and one dropped at my door. The only thing that was delivered was two bean burritos, which I didn't even order a bean burrito. The bag was sealed tight and stapled with the receipt on the top of the $75 with the food that I bought. I don't see how a restaurant can be so incompetent that they cannot see that all that food was not in the little bag they brought. It looked like a little 7-Eleven bag with two burritos Inside And they had the nerve to staple a $75 receipt with a list of items that I originally ordered onto it. I asked the delivery guy if this was it? He said yes this is all the restaurant gave me. Your workers at the restaurant really need to check the orders before they go out. First time trying the place and I didn't try anything due to the fact they did not deliver anything I even ordered. If I wanted a bean burrito, I would've just took a tortilla and slapped some beans on it and made it at home. I will not be trying anything in the future. read more

Really glad I decided to give this place a try! I wasn't expecting much because after living here three years and tirelessly trying terrible Mexican joints, I've only found a couple to be true and authentic to what I remember being street style Mexican food back home. If I were to give this place any true negative Stars it would be the terrible parking options. That sounds like a totally tourist thing to say but at the end of the day the parking lot has a bunch of signs forbidding parking there unless you're a patron of the other businesses, and the street looks like Prime Break-in area. However once you step inside you forget all of that because the ladies working behind the counter or nothing but sweet and genuine and definitely leave a lasting impression. The menu isn't exactly what I expected but it had enough of what i liked and desired that I made my order. It was pretty basic and I kept it at just the standard 5 carne asada tacos with everything. I was happy to see that they had a spicy red salsa, nothing crazy but something with enough heat that I enjoyed it. It was a well-rounded experience, from the service to the quality of food and the price it all matched up well.
