This restaurant could be a case study in a book that delves into really poor business marketing. This restaurant has been here forever. There are quite a few Mexican themed restaurants and food trucks within a mile or two. There is a large Mexican population living here and Mexican workers are all over the place. So to stand out a business would need to really separate themselves from the herd. That is, they need to stand out in a positive way. This place is a massive fail in that regard. I happen to enjoy Mexican cuisine a lot. I always appreciate being surprised by an amazing, tasty, reasonably priced, filling Mexican restaurant. There are several nearby neighborhood Mexican places that provide that experience consistently. This is not one of them. You will find unremarkable food here. Indifferent wait stall. A boringly average menu. Smaller portions at premium prices. Nothing to see here folks. This restaurant has had coupons in the local shoppers every week for decades. So when I decided to check this place out I showed up with one of those coupons. If I recall it was a coupon that took a dollar or two off the meal price if you spent more than a certain amount and ordered a specific set of items. So at checkout time they declined to accept the coupon because I ordered a medium drink and not a large. Huh? Rare for a business to use coupons to completely alienate new customers! Do I care about the two bucks that they chiseled out of me? No I do not. Would I ever patronize a business that is this out of touch with what good customer service is? No. Never been back. Never will. What the heck, Mazatlan has an unlimited supply of new customer prospects coming by so they don't need me, right? What a shabby outfit. YMMV. read more

My family dines here quite a bit. We dine in as well as do a fair amount of take out. They package the takeout on big thick paper plates, covered in foil, so we literally go home and easily enjoy it. No styrofoam. I often get the chicken enchiladas verde, and it's done very well, with the rice and beans. I appreciate that this restaurant has kept their prices fairly consistent, as a few other popular Mexican places nearby are really expensive. read more

Stopped in based on reviews from Yelp. Service was pretty good, though no one really seemed very happy to be there. When I ordered, the server literally grunted at me. Restaurant is in a strip mall so the ambiance felt a little off but it was set up like a typical mexican restaurant. I had the beef chimichanga. Very delicious. Lots of guac and sour cream and enchilada sauce. Plenty of beans and rice, which was part of the lunch special. Chips and salsa (and surprisingly...a cup of refried beans for dipping) were good and I specifically asked for mild salsa based on a previous review's recommendation. I will never come back here! The service was awesome, the staff were super nice. But the food was CRAP. I ordered a carne asada burrito and let me just say, hands down the WORST burrito I ever ate. And I'm Mexican if that helps. The steak was missing flavor, the salsa was as w&@te washed as it could be. The beans and the rice were so dry I almost wanted to cry. Even the tortilla for the burrito was bad. The only thing that had any flavor was the sour cream. It was not worth $19. I was on my lunch break and although the ambiance seemed welcoming, if you crave flavor in your food. Safe your money. I was so upset that I spent $19 on this dam burrito. Never again! The absolute worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to! We ordered 2 entrees: the chimichanga and tamale combination plate and the enchilada combination plate. On the menu, there were two protein options for the chimichanga: chicken or shredded beef. We opted for shredded beef. However, when we got our food, the chimichanga was filled with at most 25% ground beef (not shredded beef like ordered) and the rest beans. Coleslaw came with our enchilada combination. Due to the plate being hot, it also warmed up the coleslaw. Warm coleslaw leaves little to be desired. I was very unimpressed with the food. It certainly wasn't cheap either (~ $15 an entree). There are many other decent Mexican restaurants in the area. Will definitely not be returning here ever again. read more

This is the Olive Garden of Mexican restaurants. I did enjoy the warm chips and bean dip and salsa that we were served at first. I thought that was a good sign until I got the menu and there was literally 100 menu items on it. Whenever I get a menu that has too much food on it and too many options usually the food is kind of crappy. This was exactly that situation. We ordered a diverse amount of food including the ceviche tostada, and Mexican pizza, and enchiladas, chili Reno, and rice and beans. Everything was very bland and cafeteria tasting. It's like they just warmed it up straight out of a box. There was nothing flavorful or exciting or different about the food. In fact I think even my daughter's daycare serves more delicious food than this. Also that evening my husband and I both had upset stomach's which we attributed to the dinner. Also the waiter seem to be doing just the bare minimum to get by. I understand waiting tables is hard work, I used to wait tables too. It's a pandemic and people can be jerks, but like no introduction no smile no telling us about specials or anything. In fact when my husband wanted to order two enchiladas instead of the one that came with his meal the waiter said we don't do that. Which come on how hard is it to make one more enchilada? A guy coming from another Country I call Tejas was craving some Mexican food that I ended up getting baboozled here. Sign says it all Mexican food, I walk in great music, nice decor of Mexican heritage and most of all greeted within seconds. Get seated and presented chips and salsa and not sure what the beans were about but that was a twist to dips chips in. So I order the Rancho plate and when it came out it look badass, only to find out the tortilla were cheap store bought plastic bread. You can't call your self a Mexican restaurant and not have Abuela back their making some FRESH FLOUR Tortillas. That was the deal breaker for me. The meat needed some more spices and salt, and definitely need to offer some salsa verde on the side. The rice needs some more spices as well taste close enough to call it white rice. Great food. They bring you beans and salsa with the chips when you first sit down and both were good. I had the taco and cheese enchilada combo and everything on the plate was tasty. I particularly liked the enchilada sauce. My wife had the rancho plate (carneasada and carnitas). I particularly liked the green sauce on the carnitas and she especially liked the carneasada. Tonight we went to this Mazatlan because our car was out of gas. Let me explain, there is no gas station in Bethany. None. Princess' cheese quesadilla was super duper hot.Steaming! For a kid! and she wondered where her beans and rice were. They don't come with kid's cheese quesadilla here.They do at the other Mazatlan we frequent. So per usual, she ate mine.This saved us the two dollars they would have charged to bring it to her. So, I want to open this email by telling you how much I really enjoy this restaurant. However it has always seemed a headache to get extra salsa and extra bean dip. (I REALLY love your bean dip) today we went in, four of us, in the middle of ordering drinks etc we asked AGAIN for extra dip and salsa. The server tells us that there's AC extra charge for more. This is a refillable item that you'd refill no matter how many times we ate it up, why the hell would you allow an 80-100 bill walk out the door over a couple dollars of dip and salsa? The rude server was just like ok. I'll be posting this same review on Yelp, Google etc. you've lost some very loyal customers. Visited the restaurant with my wife yesterday. The food was ok but the service was terrible. They kept avoiding us like the plague. When it was time to pay the lady gave us our bill and ignored our table for 15 min after (there where only 4 other people in the restaurant so it was not busy) she took one person's card and checked them out. Then she walked by us and told us we had to pay up front. Extremely rude. We saw her check 2 people out in the booths through out the time we are eating. Jeez, such negativity around here... This place isn't that bad, you just need to know what/how to order. For example, the Arroz con pollo, is excellent... Their "Home-made Chile Relleno is also excellent. I thought their Carne Asade Burrito was pretty good too. Seriously, if you're going to order a Tostada, you may as well go to Taco Bell... As for their drinks... The margarita is awesome, if you order it right... Do not get the standard margarita made with crap tequila, aka cuervo, which isn't even real tequila (it's only 51% agave). And, the typical "cadillac margarita" made with 1800 is still crap. 1800 is just a pig wearing a pretty dress and cheap lipstick... Ask for the margarita to be made with Herradura Blanco. If you like blended margaritas, ask them to make it with blackberries or blueberries. If you order the margarita this way, it will taste almost as good as the best tequila bars in Vegas. (only difference is this place doesn't use Agave Nectar, they prob use plain syrup). read more

Outstanding. Right before I arrived, I got the notification that I was accepted into the Elite '12 club. Naturally, I was excited on behalf of the restaurant that an elite reviewer was on the way (I assume all Elite'ers are tracked by all restaurants so they can roll out the red carpet when necessary). I was not disappointed. The guy at the front let me sit ANYWHERE I wanted, I got free chips and salsa like they grow on trees, and all the water I could drink! Boom! Seriously though, I was very pleased to discover that you get two types of salsa with the pre-meal chips - mild and spicy... and the spicy actually has some bite to it! It's not overwhelmingly hot, but I'm so jaded by businesses saying something is "hot" or "spicy" only to find it's no more spicy than Taco Bell's "Fire" sauce. Ugh. I love fajitas and usually order them anywhere I go where I haven't tried them yet. Maybe I just can't get enough of the exciting sizzle sound made by the food as it comes to the table while still cooking in the patented Pan Hotter Than The Surface of the Sun so we Put a Little Wooden Thing Under it but the Handle Will Still Destroy You. Regardless, the fajitas here are WONDERFUL. I got the combo of meats (steak+chicken)...they were cooked perfectly in a truly delightful sauce, the onions/peppers/mushrooms were JUST right, the beans were steaming hot and covered in melted cheese, and there was ample sour cream. After making it through all 4 tortillas, I realized that almost all the ingredients were gone. I didn't run out of anything too early, I didn't have a heap of anything left over. It was kind of like all of a sudden discovering a 4th spacial dimension...it blew my mind. And to top it off, I had the happy hour cuervo gold margarita with my meal. I live 1/2 mile away and went straight home, there's no way it could have gotten that cold in that amount of time. I had ground beef and the meat tasted almost pasty and definitely not fresh. This is our go to spot for convenient fast and quality Mexican food-for years and years. It's gotten so that the waitstaff knows what we want to order, including an excellent margareta-slurpee style. It pretty much is a neighborhood hangout-we run into friends here when no one feels like cooking. We have gotten to know the staff and frequently exchange baby pictures...that kinda place. My personal favorites are the tamale/chili rellano combo (#21 on your dial). It's huge-an excellent fresh chili and freshly made tamale with spicy sauce, beans and rice on the side and all the tortillas and chips you need. We start with an order of guac and add some hot salsa to it and scoop with warm tortilla chips--yum yum The staff is always friendly and talkative with customers..like I said, it's like you are eating at a families house sometimes. Yeah the quality isn't superior-it's pretty much California Mexican food, but it's fresh and filling with no posers invited-sometimes thats what you want in a restaurant. I've tried the other restaurants in the chain and they don't match what we find at this particular location. Comfortable, good food, a place to relax and kick back. read more

To me and my large party of foodies, this place was a tad gross, mostly the sticky tables. On our visit, the service was horrible. Place was pretty dead and we stood in the front, waiting to get seated for 10 minutes. Finally the bus girl sat us. Once sat, it took another 15 minutes to get a server over. My buddy's and I had Chicken Enchiladas in Mole sauce and overall the taste was pretty poor. Sauce sucked and their tortillas were hard.
