We stayed in Carlsbad for less than 48 hours and gave our hearts to La Patrona for 4 different meals. The love affair began with their Asada tacos, with asada so tender and precisely spiced it complemented the entirety of the taco and left the mouth tingling with a delightful memory. I moved on to their Asada burrito the following day and experienced the warmth of their flour tortilla browned slightly to give the ideal buttery taste and touch. We also ravished their Chili Relleno Burrito and Verde tacos. A Chili Relleno burrito which let the Chili soar in its own taste splendor instead of burying it in the deep fry. This food truck was in a small parking lot which I felt was difficult to get in and out of. It didn't help that they share their lot with a smoothie truck. My husband had the asada burrito and he really enjoyed it. I had the chile relleno burrito and it was just okay. Our child had the bean and cheese burrito which they liked. Each burrito was $4. The barbacoa was all that you'd want it to be, tender, flavorful, and completely satisfying. The green chile on the tacos and huevos was the best I've ever had, with a smoky heat that we found addicting. I can't stop thinking about it a week later! Even though it is a food truck, there is a canopy and several tables where you can enjoy your food. It is family run and the service is personalized and fast. We had tacos with Carne asada and a breakfast burrito which were both delicious and bursting with flavor. The portions were generous and the tacos are covered with salsa and cilantro. The salsas are hot and flavorful, the rice is perfect texture and spice, the beans are made to be soft. The different meat and spices is top choice. Barbacoa is by far the best choice. My son and I got food today from La Patrona and as you can see from my rating, it is a mixed review. It is nothing special to look at from the street, but in the end, I am there for the food, and am not overly concerned with the appearance of a takeout restaurant. I was unimpressed with the young woman working the front counter. She wasn't friendly, appearing disinterested and almost bothered that I wanted to place an order. Our food was prepared in approximately five minutes and when we consumed it about seven minutes later, I was favorably impressed. We got the enchilada plate, with beans and rice. The enchilada was delicious and flavorful. The refried beans were also tasty but I was disappointed with the rice. It was bland and definitely needed to be seasoned better. I got a combination burrito also but honestly I was so full from my platter, I reluctantly had to refrigerate it for later. My son got a bean and cheese burrito and was pleased it consisted of a authentic flour tortilla and flavorful beans and cheese. My good order came up to just under $30. Considering the neighborhood, I found it a bit pricey but in the end, you get what you pay for.
