Glad we tried this place out. We were able to order through the phone, because the parking situation is horrendous. The restaurant is in an akwardly placed area that doesn't allow for proper parking so theres all these cars parked haphazardly all around the little place. Regardless of the situation, the service was good and the food was even better! My husband and daughter loved what they got (torta cubana and quesadilla with carne asada). My tacos de barbacoa were to die for. The salsa is LEGIT salsa, both the green and red were spicy and delicious. I'm a little sad they didn't have the red sauce for red enchiladas, I'm sure they would have been good! The only item that was "ok" was the chips and salsa, it was a few chips in a box. This little place used to be a food truck but is not a brick and mortar building. I cannot tell you how good it is. It is an experience that you have to have yourself. I had the green chili burrito for lunch the first day I was in town and the next morning had the breakfast burrito with green chili. Two of the best burritos I've ever had. Spicy is the word for this place. The salsas are good but really hot. Red enchiladas are not good and overly spicy, and I love hot stuff. I wanted to order 1 tamale and they would only sell 6 to me. It's not saying much about Carlsbad, but as a Houstonian, I can honestly say this place has the best barbacoa tacos in town, and some of the best I've ever had. Each barbacoa taco, which is pretty hefty in size, is prepared with diced onions and cilantro. The tortillas aren't the best, but they don't fall apart while you're eating it, so that's a plus for sure. The red sauce is 7/10 on the hot scale. La Patrona is the kind of place you drive up to, get out and order at the window, and leave. They have setup some tables and hung lights, which actually looks pretty neat when its dark, but most people get in and get out- mostly due to the hustle and bustle of the oilfield town. This place has become my go-to taco place in Carlsbad. read more

It was pretty good, with nice strong flavors in the asado, and for $7 (note the menu prices do not include tax) I got a generous helping of four small tacos which filled me up. Simple but good.
