Venue 5/5 Same as always, easy to find parking, garage across restaurant for rainy days. Lovely cafe to catchup with friends or chat business. Wait times can be long (20min+) on weekends if you don't have reservation during lunch hours. Service 5/5 Staff are very attentive, food comes out quickly and water refills or check ins are great. Food 4/5 The toast sandwiches have gotten a little bit less ingredients in it, the bun is still the same but the meat portion has a little bit less now. They have added more pastas and entrees for a more filling lunch/dinner menu. The bakery I'd recommend to come earlier in the day as they will sell out in the afternoon for the popular options.
We were trying to find a new place to go. I remember Yelp had an event here long time ago. So we came back. We like the dish display here. And the atmosphere was so relaxing. It was pretty good for the friends' reunion, or quiet moment for the singles. We had ordered the Taiwanese Chicken Teppanyaki Noodles and Shan Shan Omurice. The sauce of the noodles was like black pepper sauce, it was over salted, but it's tasty. I like the sunny side up egg. The Omurice was egg over the fried rice. I like the well done beef, not over cooked, just right to me. The sauce was dark, but it was not salty. Perfect! I would totally love to come again.
We came here on the Family Day Monday holiday and the wait around noonish was not too bad. While waiting we were enticed by their baked goods and each got a bag full of goodies. They had a lot of unique and delicious pastries that we don't often see elsewhere. The seating area once we got inside was pretty small and compact. The service was a bit slow despite having a lot of wait staff. I ordered a beef noodle soup and an osmanthus latte. The portion size for the entree was a good size, but also seemed a bit pricier than other places. The flavors were a bit mild, but eating it with the sides helped a bit.
This place? A hidden gem in Scarborough. It's such a cute cafe with a proper dine in area and the menu is elaborate starting from hot to cold beverages and lots of food and sweet options as well. We ordered their iced tiramisu latte - came with a ladyfinger biscuit and it tastes so good, perfect drink if you're in need of caffeine to wake you up. My boyfriend got a buttercream espresso latte and he said it was delicious. Plus the small cookies/biscuits that came with it? YUM! We also got their milky filling bun which was not too sweet but so tasty and their Shan Shan special pork floss sandwich which was also really good. The staff were super warm and quick with their service and I'd 100% go back to try other menu items even though it's a 30 min drive for me!
I think it's a bit pricy as the portion is not very big. I had the creamy bulgogi linguine, it was a bit on the sweet side for me. My friends had the beef omelette rice and pork strips skillet with a fried egg. Service was normal, they tried to sell us $120 gift card for $100. My friend's husband bought it as his parents would want to get the bakery items often. The bakery items had pretty fluffy pastry which I enjoyed. I ordered a latte too to finish off the meal. The dining room is bright, it's not too big but during lunch time we didn't have to wait to get seated. I didn't have to pay so I the experience was okay. I just wouldn't go back again because of the price, and it's far from me. The taste didn't wow me.
Found this little gem online when looking for a place to meet a friend for lunch in my area. No idea what to expect, and it certainly did not disappoint! The interior is bright and was a good level of busy & full. Lots of big groups or people on 1 on 1 dates The Shan Shan omurice was DELICIOUS, great flavor! The steak was excellent, cooked medium! The omelet was very buttery. The Korean sandwich was just ok. Our server was cute and nice!
Their pastries and seasonal desserts are always fresh and delicious. We also love their eat-in menu such as their steak omurice and bolognese. Their bruleed latte is also a great treat after a meal without opting for dessert.
I was served my appetizer after my main course. The plating looked like it is fusion cuisine but it is really just Asian food dressed up nicely. They specializes in drinks, deserts and baked goods. My experience is lukewarm although the service was prompt. My appetizer was so salty it literally had salt crystals while I chew through it. Informed the servers twice and seems that they could not be bothered. Atmosphere is causal. Lots of improvement needed for the food and it's menu offering. I am leaving with dry mouth and thrist for water after the big intake of salt.
I've been meaning to try out shanshancafe for the longest time! They get pretty busy, so I highly recommend making a reservation in advance. Luckily, I managed to walk in and get seated right away! They're so aesthetic! The interior is cute! Here's what I tried: Shan Shan Omurice (medium rare) Iced Matcha Lychee Soda Thai Tea Basque Cheesecake (Slice) Ice Cream Mini Pineapple Bun (takes 10-15 min to prep) Everything was delicious, and the food arrived quickly (except for the pineapple bun, which takes a bit longer). The only thing I probably wouldn't order again is the Thai Tea Basque Cheesecake--the Thai tea flavor was too subtle for my liking.
I remember such a great experience from a Yelp event in the past so I had to revisit. It even satisfied picky kids like my little cousins. La Petite Colline / Shan Shan is super popular for brunch and reservations are full on the prime time on weekends. So, I recommend checking them out for dinner as since their dishes suits for dinner too and easier to get reservations. If it's full, you can also call in advance to be added to the waitlist to avoid the longer wait times. We ordered the steak frites, steak omurice, chicken katsu, smoke salmon toast and chicken udon carbonara. I recommend the chicken carbonara. The chicken may look a little pink, but has ham in it and seasoning is well infused into the chicken and the udon is delicious without being too heavy. All the egg toast and bakery section is a 5-star all around and we also got some bread to go. The drinks and desserts were also amazing. The steak dishes are probably the only slight let down. While they are perfectly cooked to medium in presentation, the meat was still a bit tough to chew through. So I'll recommend skipping the steak dishes. Overall the food, bakery and ambiance will still get me coming back for more. Make it a trip and hit up an escape room or VR game area a short drive away.
This place is so cute. Parking: there's a bit of "on street" parking. A lot on the side of the building (that extends behind) and what looks like a covered parking garage when you first drive into the area. I'm. It sure if the garage is free but the rest are, so it should be. Building. There's a few eateries in the building. They are all accessed from the outside. This place is both bigger and smaller than I thought it would be. I think that has to do with really high ceilings. This is a place where you really need to have reservations of you want to sit in. I noticed take out is very popular. Everything on the menu sounded delicious. We ordered a couple of things my absolute favourite? The Brussels sprouts. They were the best I ever had. Their pastrues and baked goods sell out quick but they have bakers working all day so if something is sold out just wait a bit and it'll probably be back in stock and super fresh.
Overall a really cute cafe. I think some of their items can be a bit pricey but I've enjoyed my food every time I've come. They have a lot of fancy and unique drinks. If you decide to go on a weekend, definitely book ahead of time as the cafe isn't super big. They only have one big table for large groups so if your party is over 6 I would definitely call ahead of time.

La Petite Colline is a restaurant and bakery that specializes in Taiwanese premium baked goods The aesthetic and beautiful interior already makes La Petite Colline one the cutest brunch cafes around, but most importantly the the food was great. My favourite was the Ham & Cheese Toast as the egg was pleasantly very fluffy! We wanted to order the Short Rib Omurice but it was sold out, and had to go with the Katsu Curry Rice. It was still pretty tasty, but didn't give me a wow factor like the toast. If i come back and they don't have the Omurice, I'll probably stick to ordering another toast as I do want to try them all. They're usually very busy, so reservations are a must if you want to dine in at this cafe! read more

We visited this place again and decided to have brunch there instead of just carrying out bread. We had to arrive a few minutes before the door was open so we could get seats. The food was phenomenal!! High quality and unique taste. I would definitely come back again next time when we visit Toronto. Highly recommend it. read more
Came by here after seeing so many instagram-worthy posts online. I ordered the BBQ ribeye toast and Sesame Sweet Potato Shokupan. The bread was amazing - the shokupan was so moist-one of the best bread's I've ever had- though slightly disappointed as the shokupan on display was sliced and the one I received was not-it was so difficult to share on-the-go. Not sure if they offer slicing but I was not asked. Ended up ripping bits and pieces throughout the day and it was a hot mess. The toast was also delicious - you get to choose bread (white/wheat/danish) - I picked the danish-very loose and soft. This sandwich is quite messy on the go though it looks almost too pretty to eat. Upon taking the toast out of the bag my meat had already fell off! Overall very delicious and def would come again for the egg toast. PS. Cash payment is 10% off. read more
If you're looking for delicious sandwiches and brunch fare, as well as Asian inspired French pastries and bread, you need to try this shared bakery/cafe. The bakery is named La Petite Colline, and the cafe is called Shan Shan Cafe. There is free three hour parking for customers of the café as well as some of the nearby restaurants. When I arrived around 4:30pm on a Monday, there were a few patrons dining in the café. The ceilings are high and the decor is contemporary but elegant. The tables are well spaced and there are some plexiglass dividers separating the tables. La Petite Colline had many delicious looking bread and viennoisseries samples in their display. Items include kouign amann, various Asian inspired bun flavours, almond croissants, and a small basque cheesecake. I found some of their loaves of bread to be on the pricey side. I selected a red bean custard danish in a small loaf shape ($5). This was a good choice as the danish itself was buttery, yet not too sweet and the red beans and custard imparted the right amount of sweetness. I cannot say enough great things about the ribeye sandwich that I ordered. They made it fresh to order and I waited about 10 minutes to receive my food. The milk bread was thickly sliced, buttery and lightly toasted yet retained a pillowy softness on the inside. The slices of ribeye were tender and perfectly cooked and topped with a savoury barbecue sauce and mayo. The egg was fluffy. Together these made for one of the most satisfying sandwiches I have had in quite a while. Initially I thought $8.50 was a bit steep for a sandwich, but hubby and I agreed that we would gladly purchase this sandwich again. After hearing much hype and seeing this on Instagram I figured I would give this place a try. We went on a Saturday, super busy and we were on the waiting list which had an estimated wait of 1.5hrs for 4 people. I knew this was the case and was warn a head of time but given the hype I wanted to try. After an hr and half we still did not get any notification and figured they must had forgotten about us or something. We went in and talked to the hostess who then estimate that it was gonna be another 30 mins, at this point it was gonna be a late brunch but we figured we've gotten this far might as well wait. 10 mins in we get a notification that our table was ready (talk about an exaggerating estimation). The restaurant's interior looked very stylish and modern, open concept with large windows absorbing the natural sunlight. There's a small bakery display case showcasing the baked goods and a large table next to the hostess stand that had a lot of take out orders. We sat down and water was quickly brought to our table, after scanning the QR code for the menu we were ready to order. There isn't any clear indications if we had a waitress or not she was just too busy running around handing out cups of water. Finally we got her attention and she took our orders down, by then I was pretty hangry. We got the short rib omurice, seafood pesto pasta, taiwanese pork teppenyaki noodles, the grilled pork loin toast and a basque burnt cheesecake. Presentation look great, taste wise not so much. The only thing that tasted pretty good was the short rib on the omurice. It was nice and tender, the rice itself was tasteless and sad (felt like it was just steamed rice with a few pinches of seasoning) the egg was a bit overdone as well. The pork teppenyaki noodles was sweet and spicy, felt like it was a bit too sweet for my liking, the seafood pesto was flat out disappointing, I felt like I could have taken a jar of pesto and whipped a seafood pasta without the expensive price tag. The toast was more bread than filling, presentation wise it was pretty but the egg wasn't as fluffy as what wonder egg does. The basque burnt cheesecake was honestly the most saddest cheesecake I have ever had. I like basque cheesecake but this was a ripe off, for $8 it was a tiny 2-3 bite piece of cheesecake that was not only overpriced it wasn't even good. I would be willing to pay $8 for a slice if it was amazing but definitely not here that's for sure read more
Shan shan cafe is a must go for sandwich and burnt cheesecake. I got the ribeye and egg with danish bread sandwich, the egg melt in your mouth and the ribeye is tender. It is the best sandwich in town, there is no comparison from other sandwich places. The burnt cheesecake is delicious, with lots of cheese flavor and creamy. It is a good size to share for 4-6 people for dessert. Overall it is a good place for sandwiches and cheesecake, and i will always come back for both items! read more

Run and don't walk to Shan shan cafe!! If you haven't been to Shan shan cafe to try their amazing brunch items or their scrumptious baked goods you must go ASAP! I had previously tried their much loved fluffy egg toast sandwiches but have not had the chance to dine in and try their menu items. The quality and aesthetics of all the food had blew me away and every bite was pure heavenly joy. Everything from the mains to drinks to appetizers were top notch and 10/10 for taste. Items featured Crispy garlic calamari rings (one of their newer menu items and so addicting) BBQ rib eye toast (MY absolute favorite toast. It is fully loaded with their fluffy eggs and generous portions of beef topped with creamy mayo) Honey mustard chicken toast ( filled with succulent and moist chicken and fluffy eggs) Taiwanese chicken teppanyaki noodles (I LOVE LOVE LOVE this dish. There is a nice kick from the pepper in the sauce and the sauce is also pleasantly sweet and the noodles were cooked to perfection with juicy chicken) Short rib omurice (short rib was so tender and well cooked and the omurice was so delicious with all the sauce) Charcoal grilled pork loin sandwich One of the newer items and let me tell you this thing was massive! It was bigger than my head and came with the most deliciously seasoned sweet potato fries. The sandwich itself was so packed and all ingredients paired so well together and gave such a fresh vibe) Iced matcha espresso latte ( Please do yourself a favor and get this!!!!!! This drink is soooooo amazing and I wish I could have a jug of this) Iced brown sugar espresso. I've seen a lot of good reviews and posts about this restaurant so always wanted to give it a try, but heard that the wait is usually pretty long. I was able to make a reservation for brunch the day before and didn't have to wait for our table at all when we arrived the next day! As expected, the interior decor of the restaurant was beautiful food was definitely above average as well. Between the 2 of us, we ordered the following items: - Lollipop chicken - Seafood Pesto Pasta - Cream Mushroom Pasta - Iced Honeycomb Espresso Latte - Iced Matcha Latte I also really wanted to try their sandwiches!! But we could barely finish our food already so maybe next time! read more
Let me start off by saying that the basque burnt cheesecake here is something that I will sit at home and suddenly crave and have to have. It is creamy, delicious and just the right amount of smokiness. I have tried the toasts as well and those were good as well. HOWEVER, I sincerely question the management here as I have never felt less important as a customer anywhere else. I preordered 3 basque burnt cheesecakes on Thursday over the phone for pick up on Sunday during the grand opening special weekend. It's my favourite and I coincidentally had a special occasion so I wanted to show my family why exactly this cheesecake was so amazing. My order was confirmed over the phone, excellent! I was excited all weekend. The morning of pick up, I received a call that my order has been cancelled and they could not fulfill my order as they were too busy with the grand opening special. I'm disappointed, but I tried to be understanding and asked if I could move my order for another day and if they would still honour the 30% off as advertised. So apparently EVERYTHING does not mean EVERYTHING. After asking the manager, the girl on the phone comes back to tell me that the cheesecakes were not eligible for the 30% off, despite their advertisement of EVERYTHING. At this point, I didn't want to argue. I could hear the girl on the phone was apologetic and offered to reserve something else for me but after hearing some other horror stories about the line ups for food, no thanks. This one star was basically because their food is good and the girl on the phone was nice, but other than that, I will not come back to a store that lies to its customers and will be on the hunt for another delicious basque burnt cheesecake. read more
LUNCH I'm talking to my buddy one day and he mentions that his gf loves to eat at this cool bakery cafe and I should go check it out if I ever got the chance. The next morning I'm scrolling through IG and all of a sudden an advertisement pops up for the exact place my friend had mentioned. Coincidence? I think not! It is divine intervention and God telling me to go and try it out, today and now! In a state of trance and not even brushing my teeth, I drive over to this place in my pandemic outfit, open my trusted yelp app to see what people are recommending. I decided to go with the smoked salmon sandwich and the ham & egg sandwich, with a side of yam fries. These sandwiches were truly blessed! Thank you to the RCMP, opps I mean God for recommending such a great place! Also, they must have worked out their disorderly conduct in other yelp reviews because my wait time was reasonable. No pre-order and waiting about 8-10 mins for everything out the door. Sidebar: If you are using google maps and travelling west along Steeles rd. turn into the plaza for Tangerine, you can access the food buildings from there on the right. Don't trust Google and make an illegal U turn on Steeles. Hint: Turn at the stop lights across the road from the J-town entrance. I will definitely come back to try their other offerings. What if I tell you I got the taste of a cafe and bakery in one outlet? Yes, the La Petite Colline/ @shanshancafe gives the best of two worlds under one roof. I could taste finger-licking appetizers, mains, bakery buns, juices all at this hidden gem . Let's see what made my lunch so special: 1) Drinks: I got to try the Iced Peach Soda and Iced Mango Soda. The presentation of the Iced Peach soda with a bubble on it bemused me. All the drinks are made with 100% fruit puree and are very refreshing. 2) Appetizer: Chicken lollipops have been my all-time favourite since childhood. The cafe not only has the crispiest lollipop, but also it's flavourful. The may is made in-house and has a tangy twist to it. 3) Toasts: The star of the lunch was the varieties of creamy toasts I had. Ham & cheese toast, Smoked Salmon toast, Creamy mushroom toast were on my plate, of which my personal favourite is the Creamy mushroom toast. Every toast had a tale of uniqueness and, fresh ingredients which are very filling and a must-try. 4) Pasta: Taiwanese Chicken Teppanyaki Noodles included crispy pan-seared chicken thighs, Taiwanese teppanyaki noodles, sunny-side-up egg, sauteed vegetables, black pepper sauce, which is a soothing wholesome meal in all. I could not finish it all up as the portion size was towering. 5) Buns: You Bake me crazy, goes true with the La Petite Colline. The large variety of buns available made it difficult to select. We got their smoked salmon toast to share and I like how they pair it with dill cream cheese now! I also tried their matcha oat latte and while it was good, I just found it a little pricey in terms of adding the oat milk option. The interior and vibes here are really nice! read more
1 HOUR WAIT FOR TAKEOUT. Definitely better to make your order online before you head over. I went around 1pm and waited outside for 20 minutes before getting inside to place an order for takeout. From there, it was another 45 minute wait to get my food. They are open for dine-in, but call to make reservations at least one day in advance! They were fully booked until 3pm for lunch. Aside from the wait, the food was AMAZING. The egg and mushroom on the toast was light, fluffy, and creamy. The toast itself was soft and buttery. One thing to mention is that only the top half of the sandwich has toppings. The bottom half (not shown in pictures) is literally just bread. Still amazing though! The omurice was very flavourful. The beef was VERY soft and juicy and full of flavour. The sauce and egg mixed together with rice was just amazing. Parking is free for 3 hours in the plaza and there is plenty of parking available. Less than 2 minutes of a walk. They do not have an outdoor patio. read more

Shan Shan Cafe is the new spot for Taiwanese food! You've seen the fresh bread and baked goods from La Petite Colline but now Shan Shan Cafe has a large array of rice, pastas and sandwiches. you know it is a good boulangerie when the fresh scent of bread overpowers the room. Captured in the picture Short Rib Omurice - Tastes exactly like the black pepper beef rice that you get at HK style cafes. The omlette on top was a nice textural enhancement as it was soft and fluffy. It was $17 which is a little pricy for rice but it waas a good dish overall. [8/10] Chicken Lollipop - These chicken lollipops were so tender and juicy. It was a great appetizer and was packed with flavour. I'm so happy that this place opened, like it's literally the highlight of my year. We've had a drought of really exceptional bakeries in Markham, and La Petite Colline has come to save the day. Okay, so it's not technically in Markham since it's south of Steeles, but close enough. La Petite Colline is across from J-Town, which is home to the well-regarded but truthfully gone stale (sorry lol) Bakery Nakamura. And it's fitting because yes, Nakamura has been a go-to spot for plain bread loaves for many years, but the moment I walked into LPC, I knew I'd probably never walk out of J-Town with bread ever again (cakes are a whole other story of course). From a presentation standpoint, LPC reminded me of the excitement that one should feel when first seeing a bakery's creative offerings... the feeling of wanting to try everything behind the glass. Being a premium Taiwanese bakery, LPC finds itself at an intersection between Taiwanese, Japanese and European flavours, which already sets it apart from bakeries in the area. This means, for example, you'll find Taiwanese staples like the delicious scallion buns and red bean buns (using Taiwanese red beans) next to some Japanese classics like the mentaiko baguette and fleur de sel butter rolls (which you MUST try). The kouign-amann, a French pastry, was also a delight; until I googled it and read the first sentence on wikipedia: "described in the New York Times as 'the fattiest pastry in all of Europe'." LOL... Other favourites are the coffee UFO bun (any PappaRoti fans?) and the milky filling bun. I've yet to try everything they offer, but it's only a matter of time! I haven't even talked about their loaves... they're amazing. You can't go wrong with the nama shokupan, but if you're interested in trying unique flavours, they offer innovative ingredients baked directly into their loaves. For example: red wine longan, or, for the lazy, the breakfast loaf (ham, cheese, onions). They seem to always be adding to their lineup and working on their craft, which is a good sign and honestly super admirable. As of this review their newest addition in October was the pork floss scallion loaf... sooo so good. Anyway, please do yourself a favour and check this place out. Order ahead through their website or phone to avoid a long wait. Final notes: - Try the egg toasts (my favourites are BBQ ribeye, smoked salmon and grilled pork loin). - This is a review for their bakery. I've been to the cafe but I think the bakery is so good it just overshadows the cafe. The cafe isn't bad, and the vibes are great! But I think the best things on the menu are the toasts, which you could just grab as takeout. I also haven't tried many of their drinks so I can't speak to those at the moment. Have been meaning to try this Taiwanese cafe for a long time and it definitely did not disappoint! When you first enter, you immediteately get hit with the aesthetic interior. It reminded me a lot of cafes I visited back in Taiwan that were European inspired. We went during dinner time and managed to get a seat immediately, but I heard it fills up pretty quick as there is not much seating. The Cafe also seemed like a pretty good place to study during the day as some of the seats at the back had outlets. In terms of the food, my sister and I tried the BBQ Ribeye Toast and Creamy Mushroom Pasta. We also got the matcha latte and Iced Bloody Peach Soda. The toast was very yummy and was definitely filling, and the pasta tasted as expected like a typical creamy pasta. The highlight was definitely the drinks, as you could tell they used ceremonial grade matcha for the latte! The soda was also very refreshing and paired well with the food. Overall, if you want to an aesthetic Cafe with good food La Petite Colline is the place to go! I definitely see myself coming again and super excited to try the bakery items next time. read more

I've gotten food here for takeout during the pandemic and was kind blown with the toasts and pastas. Got the chance to dine in recently and the food is even better - we got the short rib omurice which was my personal favourite and the creamy mushroom pasta which was also very delicious. Excellent portions, especially the creamy mushroom pasta. Food was worth the hype - creamy mushroom pasta was excellent as was the honey mustard chicken. Iced wintermelon lemonade was an added bonus - it was refreshing, unique and went well with the creamy pasta that I had. Interior of the restaurant was cute - loved the blue French theme. Also really liked the Japanese style cutlery and the fact that coasters were provided. Service was excellent. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy! A line outside the door and i would recommend you order online prior as a lot of their top products have already sold out. They only allow 1 customer inside at a time due to covid. I did receive an incorrect order however i got a special item that was supposedly sold old already so i wasnt mad about it! I really recommend their garlic bread - there is cheese inside and once you toast it in the oven the crunchyness of the bottom of the bread was perfection. It had some cream cheese inside as well. The cripsy cocoa was also really good. I also ordered the bbq ribeye toast and it was decent - the bread was soft and slightly toasted. read more
Now before I get to the food and service, I'm warning you right now that there is a wait. I was there before it opened at noon, and was too stupid not to line up. By the time I followed the queue, I was fourth in line. Despite waiting in fourth place, it took me around 45 minutes to obtain my order and I will tell you why! Once you go into the restaurant, you actually order via a tablet - controlled by staff. I have no idea why they couldn't do this outside or just ask us to order online. I was under the impression that if I lined up in-person, I could physically pick out the buns where physical distancing is possible. Anyhow, it's very fast for them to pack the pastries for you but holy cow, if you want a hot sandwich, you gotta wait another 15 minutes. Due to physical distancing restrictions, staff will ask you to step outside again and come back in 10-15 minutes. This is a little ridiculous, because they could just assign someone to get our number and call us back. Anyhow, the restaurant is new, so whatever. I think the pastries are fairly priced, the sizes are not smaller than the ones you find at other Chinese bakeries and they tasted great. Prices range from $2.25 to 6. For that price, I'd be happy to go back (if they solved their long line-ups). We tried their famous Nama Shokupan, and while it tasted fresh, I'm not sure this trumps what I've had at J-Town. I wouldn't say they were extremely fluffy; it does taste like milk bread but ah, it's okay lols. One thing I want to comment on is the decor. Came here on a Sunday and called in for a reservation around 3:30pm and was able to get a reservation. It was also surprisingly busy with constant flow of traffic and pick up for a Sunday afternoon. Service was great, there is a lot of staff so they can be very attentive, for a small place. Love the colour and decor, makes for a nice preppy cafe/atmosphere. The sandwiches are really good, I loved the smoked salmon toast and the omelette (anything with the omelette) is delicious. They've perfected it with the right amount of fluffiness and consistency. Best hot dish is the beef ribs omurice especially if you like mushroom, there's a mushroom deglace and it's impeccable! The short rib is tender and packed with flavour as it has been sous vied! The katsu curry didn't have enough curry for my liking and the pork was quite dry. I typically never order pastas at a non Italian restaurant and for good reason. The seafood pasta was okay, nothing to write home about. The meatball pasta was better, sauce was good and the meatballs were not dry, full of flavour. But I wouldn't order again. As for dessert, they make their pineapple bun differently with a cookie kind of component so I was not a fan. The ufo bun was not like the coffee buns I was reminded of when I saw it, I didn't like how the best part (the crunchy topping part) was only around the base of the bun as opposed to on top or a solid base (hence ufo). The fruit drinks say 100% purée fruit but wasn't strong enough, we tried the mango, lychee and passion fruit green tea. The honeycomb espresso with oat milk was delicious but it wasn't real honeycombs, it was the toffee sponge. I really enjoyed the roasted milk tea with oat milk, the nutty roasted flavour is so much stronger and authentic than chatime. Overall 7/10 would recommend. Definitely try the beef toast, smoked salmon toast and the beef rib omurice, I believe these are the best items on the menu! read more
Egg toast restaurants finally made their way uptown! I was looking forward to try them as the toasts are made fresh in house and everybody seems to be loving it! I finally got the chance to try them out. I ordered their smoked salmon toast with a matcha latte on a random Saturday afternoon. They're made fresh to order and took approximately 15 minutes before my order was ready. The take out order was carefully packaged with the sandwich in it's own paper bag, drink sealed tight and both of them put into a paper bag to go. I also love their straws for their drinks! The straw is made of paper yet it's strong enough to poke through the plastic seal on the drink and can be recycled! When I got home, the sandwich was fresh and hot! The egg was huge and fluffy, salmon slices were placed on the top, I wish they had some salmon at the base of the sandwich so you get salmon throughout. The toast was amazing! it was so soft and ends were crispy! It was extremely fresh and my dog can't stop eating it too!! The matcha latte was fine, I would ask them for less ice next time! It felt like 1/3 to half the cup was ice which is too much for my liking! read more
I've only ever gotten take out for La Petite Colline and it's been good! The truffle yam fries are a little soggy but the dip is great. Crispy chicken burger is very good but messy, and their egg sandwichy are stuffed and delish. My friend got the ice matcha ORANGE green tea... maybe don't get this one. It tastes exactly as it sounds lol Oh yea, and that cream bun is STUFFED with cream. So good read more
Have only been here twice and although the food is good, I do not recommend going. The first time I visited, I only got takeout which is the sandwich seen in this review. The sandwich was quite solid and I would definitely get it again, however... The second time I visited, I tried to dine in. It was a regular week-day after lunch time and the restaurant was not busy. We were greeted by 3 different people who tried to find us a table, please note the restaurant was nearly empty, and the last server who greeted us immediately turned us away. She looked down on us and mentioned there were no spots available and that the restaurant was busy. I was shocked as the restaurant was empty (only 2 tables were taken up) and at the time, you could not reserve online. I honestly think they turned us away due to the attire we were wearing - casual clothing. My friend was wearing sweat pants while I was wearing shorts. The first two servers appeared as if they wanted to seat us, but the third one really turned me off from her attitude and reaction. Love this Taiwanese owned French bakery. Have tried most items on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet! Easy online ordering where you choose the pick up time. We have ordered from them a many times now but keep forgetting to post a review because we always end up in a food coma afterwards. Every item is consistently delicious and @shanshancafe has so many yummy dishes to choose from there's something for everyone. Give them a try if you haven't already! read more
My mom gave me their Crispy Cocoa to try before La Petite Colline had opened because one of her friends knew one of the owners or something. After trying it, I was super excited for them to open. It's delicious, crispy, chocolatey bread goodness without being sweet. Even though I had known about its opening forever, I didn't end up going until last weekend because the reviews have not been the best. When I got there around 6pm on a Sunday, a third of their bakery items were sold out, Crispy Cocoa ($3.50) included :( Some hits and some misses. Their Longan Honey Bread ($5.00) was soft and fluffy, with a hint of fruitiness at the end. Loved this. Can't say the same about the Blueberry Custard Danish ($4.25) though. The pastry was hard to the point where it was a struggle bite apart and the blueberries were sour. It tasted a tad bit burnt as well. Will not get again. Also ordered 2 egg sandwiches to go - Smoked Salmon Toast ($8.99) and Grilled Pork Loin Toast ($8.99). I've had a few other egg sandwich around Toronto and this is probably my favourite one. One was too dry, another was too greasy, but this has neither of those problems. One of the issues with another place was that the ingredients were only filled to half the sandwich. Not sure what that's about but Shan Shan Cafe is not about that life. The ingredients are filled throughout the sandwich, the bread is good, the sauce is awesome. Love. Definitely preferred the Smoked Salmon way more than the Grilled Pork Loin though. I found the pork to be on the dry side and it was very heavy. I also didn't really enjoy the flavours. Would get Smoked Salmon again and again, but not the Grilled Pork Loin. Even though from the few items I got, I only enjoyed 50% of it, the ones that were good were really good. This new bakery has crazy line-ups even for orders placed online. The food is great but they really need to get organized with their order turnaround. The signature toasts are very fluffy with a good amount of egg and their signature spicy mayo sauce. I have tried most of them and like the beef one the best. The loaves and buns are also very good despite being a bit pricey. The milk custard toast is my favourite but the garlic cream cheese one is also pretty good. read more
Such a cute restaurant! Extremely clean and updated. This was my first time trying these sandwiches and the presentation is so pretty. I got the smoked salmon and bbq ribeye and they were both delicious. The bread was so soft and the fillings were very flavorful. A great price point too! The only downside is that the restaurant is very small and we waited 30 minutes for a seating and came after the brunch rush. read more
I've never had a dine-in experience here. However I strongly suggest you park close by and eat your sandwiches as soon as possible. The bread they use is extremely good. Soft on the inside but has a slight crispy texture on the outside. Highly recommend their smoked salmon sandwich. The egg will melt in your mouth and blend in with the salmon flavor. read more
My first time trying fluffy style egg toast and wow I'm amazed! this salmon egg sandwich $8.63, is definitely on the greasier because of the sauce but worth it not bad at all their buns are great too, my favourite is crispy cocoa, crispy outside and spongy inside but sold out most of the time during weekends make sure you order ahead online to avoid long wait times, due to covid they only allow one customer inside the only thing i don't like is the egg is only halfway to the bottom, so I had to finish the remaining sandwich with only lettuce add me on ig for more: yummeatca read more
