I was recently asked about our trip to Versailles and it made me think about the lunch we had at La Petite Venise. Wish I could say the food was great and it was worth it. But it wasn't, unfortunately. The restaurant is tucked away into the garden, a little walk from the main buildings of Versailles. We came right on time as it was specified on the ticket (lunch meal purchased with the ticket). They seated us outside and the service was just okay. I had the pasta from the menu (and a few other items they do charge extra for.) The tomato & tuna salad was pretty bland and the pasta just wasn't good. My husband was very underwhelmed by his option as well. The bread - we thought - surely the bread will be amazing. No, it was just a flat, dry, carboard-y kind of bread. It was awful. This was just pure convenience for us and should have expected a less than stellar experience. I would have chosen a better option upon arriving back in Paris. read more

Purchased the Versailles ticket that included lunch here. The restaurant is pretty easy to find but tucked away. The inside is cute. It came with a tea or drink, a main, and either a starter or dessert. I chose a starter and it was not bad! Didn't want to eat all of it so that I had room for the pasta. The food took a while to come. The shrimp pasta was very dry and under seasoned. The shrimp was slightly overcooked but the star of the plate. I wish the pasta had better sauce than a bisque. It dried up. The pasta was mushy and overcooked. No flavor. Honestly, it was not a very good meal. The inside was cute. The service was not bad but not exceptional. read more

This restaurant was perfect to cool down after walking in the gardens of Versailles. The area is super beautiful and calming. I love the aesthetic of the seating outside. The people were super welcoming and were able to speak English. The food was excellent. My group ordered the focaccia which was excellent. The bread was cut into cubes and then toasted. Some sun-dried tomatoes, capers, and other leafy greens added a great touch to the bread. We ordered the rigatoni with creamy mushroom sauce and the gnocchi with a creamy green sauce and spicy ricotta. The pastas were great and I highly recommend. The complementary bread was also great as it was fluffy and came with burrata. I also ordered the tea panna cotta which was super silky. Overall, I highly recommend coming here and I hope I can come back soon! read more

I wish I could say the food was good however due to their food options we were barely able to eat here. DO NOT come here if you have a peanut allergy. They have very limited options and are not accommodating at all. Also, be prepared to be harassed about a 5 Euro tip. Sharing this review so that visitors to Chateau Versailles know what to expect. Là Petite Venise is an Italian inspired restaurant that may be a bit harder to find for those who want a more sit-down experience. To find it, you have to head towards the Royal Canal and when you get there, looking for a path that leads you into a courtyard that may look residential. That little courtyard also has a gift shop in it. This restaurant is not your quick order and take food to go spot. The menu is pricier than any other place at the Cheateau except for Ore. You eat at Ore if you don't want to explore the Gardens. You eat here if you are going to explore the Gardens and don't want to make the long walk back to Ore. My wife and I ordered two appetizers and an entree to share. The two appetizers were the Crostini and the Sea bass. The sea bass is served sashimi style with grapefruit and orange. This may be a more seasonal dish. The entree was the mezzi rigatoni. I also had a glass of wine and we also had a bottle of still water. The entire bill came to 64 euros. The price isn't bad, but if you want quick simpler food, there are other nearby options. Crostini and Rigatoni was delicious, and sharing the rigatoni was a good idea because it is a heavy dish! The seabass was okay. I love seabass, but it wasn't as good sashimi style and J don't believe the grapefruit/orange pairing really worked. My wife agreed, but this may be more of a personal preference. Service is great. France has a slow eating culture which means that a meal running 1.5 to 2 hours is the norm. If you want to eat quick and get your bill, going here probably is not what you want to do. However, if you still do, make sure to communicate with your server. read more

After a long tour of the palace Niki and I came across this Italian restaurant. We looked over the menu and decided to give it a try. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We ordered the melon with prosciutto, spahetti, and vegetable antipasti. All were delivered in a reasonable amount of time. I have no complaint, the dishes were very tasty and the presentation impressive. I will definately eat here again. read more

This is the worst service I have ever experienced. Don't chalk it up to "typical French" slow/rude service, this was actually absurd about how terrible it was. We ordered an antipasti and two entrees. Our waiter brought out the antipasti and my entree at the same time. I felt weird eating my entree by myself so I attempted to wait a bit but eventually had to give in to my hunger and start eating. I ended up finishing and my husband still didn't have his entree. As we were waiting, the waiter told the couple next to us that they were out of the food they ordered, after they had already been waiting for at least 30 min. 20 minutes after I finished my entree, my husband finally got his. He basically sprung out of his chair to pay so we wouldn't have to wait 40 min for that as well. Our total time spent was 1.5 hours, and only 20 of those were spent eating food. Definitely avoid this place unless you're a total masochist. read more

June 29, 2012 While visiting Versailles, I stumbled upon this small and elegant restaurant nestled among the trees and paths of the Versailles gardens on my way to visit the smaller palaces of King Louis and Marie Antoinette. They were not opened for lunch yet, but let me come in to look at their menu and take pictures. I went to a nearby boutique and then returned when they opened. My waiter's name was Jean-Luc. Jean-Luc spoke enough English to help me with the menu, since I do not speak French. I ordered a nice white wine along with their chicken salad. While waiting for my meal, Jean-Luc brought me a plate of flat breads and olives. His gift to me. The salad was delicious, the chicken moist and included sun-dried tomatoes, tomatoes and shaved cheese. Jean-Luc recommended a dessert that included a cup with strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, a chocolate mousse concoction, cherry treat and a biscotti. Jean-Luc brought an Espresso with dessert, his treat again. If you visit Versailles, don't miss this little jewel of a restaurant. And ask for Jean-Luc, he was a delight! read more

Actually really liked this restaurant. I thought the service was great and everyone was very friendly. They give you a big plate of parmesan cheese at the beginning which is really delicious. Had the loveliest lunch here. It's hidden away in the middle of Versailles gardens near a little ivy-covered cottage. What a wonderful stop we had for lunch during our tour of Versailles! This place was exactly what we were looking for, a quick lunch away from the crowds of tourists. Some of the best food my boyfriend and I had in France. Stopped here after a long morning of visiting the palace. The outdoor seating is beautiful and rustic. I ordered pork loin with root vegetables which was cooked perfectly and delicious. I would highly recommend eating here if you are in the area. Excellent food to go along with an excellent day at Versailles. A trip to Paris fails without making your way out to Versailles for the day. With its massive size and beautiful sights this is a welcomed place that serves some delicious food. It's hidden away and subtle enough that it most definitely will not attract the hordes of people that are at Versailles on a daily basis. I had a pasta dish that was a perfect portion size and my girlfriend had a veal lasagna that was fantastic. The lighting was nice and the decor was beautiful. read more

If you only come for drinks, be prepared to be kicked out. We came in to have drinks. We sat down and did not have a waiter come up to us until 10 minutes later. When he did, half of our options were not available. He took our order, only to come back five minutes later and tell us he cannot serve us because they are full (only two other tables were taken) and we are only ordering drinks. Even though there were no signs stating this, they refused to serve us. Never coming back here. read more
