    Salsa bar

What's not to love about a Mexican grocery and taco stand built from an old abandoned gas station? Here is the process: Go inside first. Grab yourself a drink from the cooler and let the cashier know what tacos you are ordering. That person will them give you a post-it note with a hand written number specifying how many tacos. Walk outside and immediately to your left, you hand the note to the grillman and let him know what tacos and if it is to go. Be mindful that the tacos have different pricing so if you buy the more "premium" tacos like Lengua (tongue) then you would pay like an extra dollar. He will tell you and may have to go back in and pay if your order was paid comensurately. Beyond that there is a covered eating area, the back left hand corner top your tacos with an awesome salsa bar. All in all, my favorite spot when around that area.

I just got some food here, died and went to heaven! My son and I were heading to his Riverhounds soccer camp after school crew practice and needed to find a place to eat fairly quick. He checked Yelp, and it was close by in Coraopolis on State. Best Yelp search ever! This is not American style Mexican. This was a trip back to the 70's traveling through Mexico down to Panama, street shop authentic fare. I had the Caldo de Res beef soup, and it was INCREDIBLE! It was OMG delicious. The flat bread was incredible. The lime and onion chili garnish perfect. My son was thrilled with his meal as well...a shrimp based soup. Oh, and the churro for dessert? Perfection! This find was wonderful! Go there, you must! This is the best Central American food I've had in literal decades. Never had better in the US.

This location sells ice cream and other Mexican style food, mostly fried. But no tacos.

So, I've read a bit about this place over the past year that I've been visiting the area and have been wanting to try it for a while due to all the positive reviews. I finally got to try it on a Friday, when they offer buy 2 - get 1 free tacos. Firstly, I went to the wrong location... turns out there are two restaurants across the street from each other; one is a grocery store with the taco stand and the other offers ice cream and a lot more items, like fried whole fish, etc. but no tacos there. So, be sure to go the appropriate location for the food you desired. So, when I walked across the street to the tacos stand, the guy at the outdoor grill told me to go inside to pay. When I did, I waited a long time at the register before seeking out an employee, who looked like he was stocking a shelf. He came over and rung me up and had somewhat of a bad attitude. The price was decent, only about $7 for the three tacos. Brought my ticket outside to get my tacos, the guy outside made them by heating up some corn tortillas and then added tons of meat to them, so you definitely get a very large portion here. They have a salsa bar (which is refrigerated, since it's outdoors) to fix up your tacos the way you want. I tried one pollo, one chicken fajita, and one carnitas. The two chicken tacos were just ok, not very flavorful and very dry. The carnitas was pretty decent. All of them needed lots of salsa to get more flavor to them and each also needed some lime squeezed on them. Overall, I can say that I've finally been, but I'm definitely not going back... I crave really good tacos and after this visit, these are definitely not "craveable" to me.

Came back after last weeks review in the fast station taco shop across the street (same name). This was an ice cream shack with outdoor window service. Excited to order the mojarra frita which was cooked perfectly. Super flakey with a plastic fork. Avocado and lime were nice additions...much needed as the rice and beans needed more flavor. The tortillas came in silver foil and super hot with nice char. I'd order this again for sure but wish I could go across the street to the salsa bar to enhance the rice.

Cool place! I like how you could add as many toppings as you'd like. The dessert you could buy in store was also incredible and everyone there was very kind. Some options such as the beef tongue didn't taste very fresh however. Even so, very affordable options and again AMAZING DESSERT!!

**When you walk up be sure to go straight to the cashier and "buy" your tacos in advance as the food cart doesn't handle the money** I learned that the hard way after I stood around for about 5 minutes watching other people get their meals and not getting called upon to place an order. Buying tacos is a fairly straightforward process but inside they also advertise tamales which is confusing because those you do pay for directly, but it's across the street at the ice cream shop...go figure... as far as I can tell the gas station side is for tacos (which are paid for inside), and the snack shack across the street is for ice cream and tamales and maybe other entrees for which you can pay at the shack. Due to this confusion I can't give this experience the full 5-stars I wanted to. Back to the food. Tacos are made to order and loaded with meats. Next to the taco cart are all the salsas, pico de gallo etc... that you can then select and add as you please. There are a few picnic tables around but I opted to eat right out of my car for ease. My wife and I split 4 tacos which were great, but not quite enough food to be satisfied. So we drove across the way to the ice cream stand and got a tamale and a flan for dessert. I'm a big tamale fan and this was my favorite part of this meal. It was a little spicy but I really enjoyed it. Flan was good but not super special in my mind. Though this place is a little off the beaten path for me, I wouldn't hesitate to come back for more tacos and tamales.

Get the Mojarra Frito...Amazing!! Crispy on the outside, light flaky and juicy on the inside. Hubby enjoyed Carne Asada and 2 Carne Asada tacos. Kids had Carnitas tacos and flan. Ice cream was also worth the trip.

Let's be honest, this place isn't pretty. It's a Mexican convenience store that's extremely compact inside. A great shelf of different hot sauces caught my eye and some coolers full of drinks. I bought a Mexican Coke in the glass bottle and paid for my tacos at the counter. You then go outside with a post-it note with what you paid for and hand it to the gentleman working a flat top under an tent. Takes about a minute to get your food in a to-go box and then you yourself get to load it up with different toppings like lettuce, onions, guacamole, hot sauce, lime wedges and salsa. Seemed like a majority of the people who were in front of me just took their food home, but I stayed and enjoyed my tacos on one of the folding tables in the parking lot. Not the most pristine setting to eat dinner in a dirty parking lot while traffic rolls by, but it is what it is. All of the tacos were great. Very authentic and flavorful. The hot sauce has a big kick so don't put too much on like I did! Thankfully they double up on the soft taco shells cause they give you a good portion of meat in each taco. I still had some blowouts while eating though cause they give you so much. A good experience and a great taco. If you are wary of kinda sketchy atmospheres then I'd recommend going, getting your food and taking it home, but if you have a small sense of adventure and know that some of the best food comes from less than picturesque places, stop by this hidden gem!

Coming from the desert Southwest, I know a few things about tacos. These are LEGIT tacos. Fast service, great options, fair price and DELICIOUS!!

Drove about a half hour to this spot after we heard about it on social media. It was delicious and totally worth the drive. We got chicken, pastor, ribeye and carnitas tacos. All were tasty, with ribeye having the least amount of flavor. After enjoying our tacos we went across the street for tamales and flan. The tamales were a little spicy, but really good! The flan consistency seemed to be a little "off" to me, not quite as custard-y as I remember from previous times. The flavor was great though!

How have I been in Pittsburgh for 2 years and I just found La Poblanita? I found a diverse group of people eating on the picnic tables outside. I ordered 3 tacos. It's the usual pay inside and give the cook your order. I had carnitas, asada, and chorizo. All 3 were very good. They had the full selection of self/serve toppings. Tacos were $2.50. 2 would be a meal and 3 will leave you full. The only comparable restaurant I have found in Pittsburgh is Las Palmas. Las Palmas has the edge on food, but La Poblanita has a better sitting arrangement, and La Poblanita has a an ice cream stand across the street. I'd give them the edge on experience. I will be a new regular.

An authentic Mexican taco stand. You can trust that because most of the signs were in Spanish. Great soft tacos cooked on the grill. Lots of toppings to choose from (including roasted jalapeno peppers. The guacamole topping was rather soupy, but that's my one complaint. There are picnic tables where you can sit outside, underneath the former gas station overhang. Some cold drinks from the cooler, mango or guava, and you are all set. You order and pay inside at the counter, and the cashier gives you a little post-it note to take outside to the chef. Nothing but a cool scene, and for an excellent low price.

    Is this an eat-in restaurant?

There are tables outside, but it's not really a restaurant with a dining room. I would characterize it as a taco stand with excellent, authentic food.

We had a conversation and she asked what I do for a living. I said I work for a Sheriff's Office. She said, "you know all cops are bastards right?' I told her my agency primarily works as a jail. She asked me how I felt about working at a modern day concentration camp and threw out some statements about how jails release people with nowhere to go and with no shoes. I told her I can't speak for other agencies but that my agency was very progressive and we don't do that. I asked her what we should do with violent people as an alternative to jail and she said, "that's your job to figure out.' I explained some of the services we offered to mitigate her concerns and how someone may make a mistake and end up in jail and how we offer wrap around services pre and post release to mitigate that such as programs and halfway homes. She said that was a good thing. Her fellow bartender asked her to make a drink for her and the bartender left for the backroom for 10 or so minutes. She came back but didn't seem interested in conversation so I left. Quite discouraging. You can't base all of your knowledge about jail and prison on Orange is the New Black, Oz and the Shawshank Redemption. We have people out there that care and genuinely want to make a difference and help people at their lowest.

Came here with a friend last week and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I want to lead with the best here: the bartender/server here provided some of the best service I have experienced in the last few years. So many people have come to expect poor service (including myself) that positive experiences like this really serve as a wake-up call to what the dining experience ought to be like. Kudos to Taqueria 304 for hiring the best! I can't omit the excellent food and stellar plate presentation either. My friend and I both got the loaded nachos as our entrees and they were as delicious as they were beautiful. As for the drinks, plenty of beers on tap and in bottles to suit your needs, particularly of the Mexican variety (fitting). Ambiance is nice with some clever furnishings, like the sideways doors carpentered to serve as an entryway wall. One thing I will mention is that open-concept establishments tend to have noise issues and this place is no exception; even still, my friend and I were able to hear each other on this occasion (no promises when the place is full). Parking here can be challenging due to all the construction currently happening in the area though there are spots available on both sides of the street which ought to be enough at most times of the day. All things considered, Taqueria 304 is a welcome addition to the area and I hope they stick around for a long time to come! Overall: 4.5 stars ---- Pros: - Outrageously good service, that needs to be commended in a world where such service is increasingly rare. - Excellent food with a skilled eye for presentation. - Great draft/bottle beer selection. - Pleasant ambiance with clever furnishings. Cons: - Open-concept spots can have noise issues, though it wasn't too bad during our visit. - Parking is tough but still available.
