I love california taco shop! We have tried the shaler location many times but finally tried the wexford shop and were just as happy with the food! They have an easy to navigate online ordering system, and the food is always fresh and delicious. Their carne asada quesidillas are to die for. I also enjoy their chips and salsa! Husband didn't like the tripa or the lengua. The carnitas had a little bit too much fat on it for me and the fish taco didn't have much flavor. We discovered this great little spot shortly after they opened and were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was and how friendly the staff was as well. She Did not smile and barely acknowledged us. I asked if I could have my Enchilada combo with 2 chicken and one beef enchilada. She flat out said "no". The combos have to be all one meat. So I said I would have the chicken enchilada combo and separately order one beef enchilada on the side. Again she said "no".you can't get just one enchilada. I was shocked. A small mom and pop shop and she wasn't willing to work with me on what I would like to have. There was no convincing her at all and she was also very rude about it. We were so disappointed after all of our great visits and now we do not want to return. Restaurants need to learn that bad customer service impacts future visits and recommendations!! Heard great things so we tried it out last week. My husband got the California burrito and I got the fish, carnitas, and Al pastor tacos. We don't live super close by and had to do takeout for this meal, so by the time I got home, the fish taco was no crisp or crunchy at all...hopefully just due to the drive, which I'm sure was the case. The flavors were all great, a few fat/gristly pieces in the carnitas, but overall, I really enjoyed the food. My husband liked the California burrito quite a bit! We are always checking out new places when we are new areas. One of our vets isn't it in Wexford which gives us the perfect chance to explore. Today we go a variety of things from the California Taco Shop and devoured it all so quickly that I didn't even snap pictures. We got several different tacos, the rolled tacos, street corn, rice, beans, chips, salsa and churros. Everything was DELICIOUS. So fresh. So flavorful. We are kind of snobs about our food and are tough to impress, this was impressive. The street corn was probably my favorite thing which I know is bizarre to say. It was so fresh and flavorful. I think it might be my favorite salsa I've ever eaten too. We placed a large order and it was ready quickly. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. I will say it that it was pricier than other Mexican restaurants, but the ingredients seemed to be higher quality to justify those prices. We originally went to the California Taco Shop on Rte 8 and it was good. However, I think the new one in Wexford is even better. We've had a few different items on the menu. We love the guacamole. It's so fresh, creamy and delicious. My husband loves to have the chicken tacos. They're juicy and flavorful. I really like the chorizo burrito. Most of Mexican Restaurants won't put chorizo in the burrito. It's really nice they have one. The chorizo is so flavorful and so delicious. Best burrito I've had in Pittsburgh, hands down. I went in yesterday for the first time. I asked what came on the Carnitas burrito - she answered "pico and guacamole." I asked if there were any beans and rice, and she said "No - none of that stuff." The thing was just a cylinder of meat with a little bit of pico and guac. Pork was combination crispy and tender. Fresh tortillas, tried the chorizo, pollo adobo, and al pastor and all were great. Burrito was ok, but the cheese was not at all melted. The rest of the fillings were hot enough, that if I were driving someplace else to eat, the cheese might have melted. There was way more rice than beans too. My husband ordered the carne asada burrito and the al pastor taco for himself as well as the carne asada plate and the chicken quesadilla for me. The food tasted good and was fairly authentic. For example, the tortillas reminded me of my husband's Mexican grandma's homemade tortillas. Prices were reasonable and ranged from approximately $4 to $13 per item.
