I've had both my hair cut and my nails done here and both experiences were very pleasant. The nail technician, I think, was more into being a hair stylist and had some trouble with a simple french tip manicure but got it done and was very nice. read more

This may be the most backward Salon in the world. They refused; for many years; to take my credit card information and mail one of their Gift Certificates to our daughter. They claim they cannot verify any information. Well, hop into the 21 century people. I have tried unsuccesfully for years to get them to send a GC in the mail. But, alas, no! They instead will send an email so that one might print out on lousy computer paper a GC. TACKY, TACKY, TACKY. read more

Avoid Tiffany like the plauge. I told her what I wanted. And yes it was my first time. Every PROFESSIONAL stylist I have ever met takes this into account. Anyway, I said what I wanted, and then she went to town with the buzzer. My hair went from naturally colored with some wings to completely grey on the side. I stopped her and asked for the barber immediately. Actually, first off I also asked for a beard trim and she said she couldn't do it, so I asked for the barber. Maybe she should have just given me to the barber? No, she went ahead anyway. Luckily, there was a good barber on staff who knew what she was doing. If you are a man, make sure you get the real barber. Anyway, I have vented enough. If you need a real barber or haircut there are numerous other places around here that seem better price and like they have been in business longer than this place. So go there instead is the best advice I can give. read more

I received excellent customer service yet again today from La Pomponnee! They really take care of their customers. I purchase gift certificates online from them, for a relative who lives close to them. Today we dealt with a lost gift certificate and they were fabulous. Worst customer service I've experienced at a salon/spa. Had to have my nails repolished when my nails kept smudging even after 10 minutes under the dryer, and an hour after that. When my nail tech redid them, I received nothing by attitude and she even scolded me for not staying under the dryer long enough. This is also not the first time I've sensed attitude from staff members at this location. I left feeling like I wasn't good enough to step foot in their salon/spa. Well, I probably won't after this experience. Does the management even read these and take to heart? Because the service hasn't improved, but declined in the 2 years I've been going there. Horrible. Both times I've gone here, the stylists don't listen to what you actually want. Just had a haircut and asked for a trim of 2 inches and some light touching up around the face framing area and specifically said no layers. And I continued to say this during the entire cut to be met with a "don't worry, it's going to be fine." Repeatedly. I ended up with 6 inches of my long hair cut off. I now have a glorified mullet of one layer of extremely short hair above my shoulders and a semi long layer. It'll be a great next 9 months trying to grow out this horrible cut. read more

Worst experience with a hairdresser ever, at this location. Made an appointment with Diane for a body wave. When I was sort of greeted by her she looked at my hair and said "You get body waves?" Yeah, that's why I booked one at your salon. Then she argued with me about when to trim, I wanted after she wanted before, and after five minutes acknowledged that it didn't matter, but FIRST telling me the perm "wouldn't soak in" on the ends unless she trimmed it. Then she argued with me about the rods. It's taken me over ten years to figure out with Aveda perm hairstylists what the perfect combo is. Diane knew better, but finally agreed. Then she proceeded to comb my wet hair, from the forehead back, scratching my scalp and jerking my head. That wasn't enough, though. She then started rolling it with the rods she thought I should have. I got up and left. When I addressed the problem at the front, NO EFFORT WAS MADE TO HELP me other than to offer coming back and talking to the owner. Yeah. Right. THAT'S gonna happen. I want to like La Pomponnee but I've had so many problems there. Most staff are unfriendly. The last time I went they were painting the walls and my "relaxing" treatment was not relaxing due to the high level of chemical smells. I even had to walk outside a few times. They could at least have told customers in advance. I went for a facial and there was jackhammering in the garage next door. Not relaxing. No warning. I used the same hair stylist there three times and each time she kept me waiting in between, color, cut and blow dry because she was running two clients at a time and her timing was always off. The last time I was there the waiting area was right outside the blow drying area and it was so loud. Now Julie does a great job on eyebrows and is friendly. Don't have a facial there. It is just a lot of expensive products applied and taken off one's face - not a cleansing facial. It looks like it should be a great place but it is overpriced and underwhelming in almost everyway. The owner is clearly more interested in the physical plant than the quality of the service and the experience. They need a better floor manager to check in with customers and ascertain quality and immediately handle problems. This is a place that clearly does not listen to client feedback. read more

I have been going to La Pomponnee for over 20 years specifically for massages. For many, many years I had the same massage therapist. Not any more due to the turnover which raises red flags. I called for an appointment yesterday and was told they could fit me in "tomorrow". Upon arrival I was advised they had me in for another day that was not "tomorrow" aka "today". Since it is quite a hike from where I live, coming back was not an option. They offered me a 1/2 massage or facial.to make up for my inconvenience. After much trepidation, I agreed to a 1/2 hr. massage but still had a 2 hr. wait which I left to run some errands. Upon returning for my 1/2 hr. massage, I was kept waiting 1/2 hr., only to learn the therapist was never told vocally that I was added to her schedule. They left her a note that she never received since she had back to back appts. When I got into the newly remodeled room, I asked about the changing room and robe. I was told they did away with it but if I wanted one, I could have one. Really? At that point I was so frustrated with what was suppose to be a "stress free" experience I declined. I felt like I was in a doctor's office not in a luxury spa. Fortunately, the massage therapist gave a wonderful massage, but the customer service of the front desk was deplorable making faces at me, to my face, as I expressed this dissatisfaction. For the prices they charge, they no longer give you the experience that is expected in a spa. It is very disappointing after having wonderful experiences here for over 2 decades! read more

this was by far my most disappointing visit to la pomponnee. they charge $45 for a pedicure which must be scheduled 3 days to a week out at minimum. overall the service was acceptable, but when i got out into the sunlight, i now see that the polish is noticeably thin and uneven in spots which looks terrible. i can also see the scrach marks on both big toes from the orangewood stick used to clean up the edges. now i will have to go elsewhere and pay for a polish change. from now on i will be going somewhere else altogether. read more

My children had purchased a large gift certificate to "spoil" me. I ended up using it to treat my daughter and I to a mani/pedi. Both Laura and Eleigha were wonderful and the evening was enjoyable. After we were done, I walked to register to redeem the gift certificate and realized that the tip would exceed the total of the gift certificate, so I did some quick math and wrote a check to La Pomponnee for the difference. Suzanne, the manager, turned up her nose and, in front of my daughter, and in an utterly snotty way, said, she wouldn't accept gift certificate balance for the tip - This was pretty surprising because the last time I went to la pomp, I used a gift certificate for my entire bill and tip (standard everywhere else - after all, who gives a gift that ends up costing $$ for the person you have gifted?) So I dug the cash I had out of my wallet and handed Suzanne the check and some cash - at this, and in front of my daughter Suzanne rudely said she wouldn't take a check because it was made out to la pomp and she wouldn't cash it out. I stood there just so surprised at her tone and asked if she would take a debit card, to which she said no. So I left, went to the bank for cash, and returned so Laura would receive her tip. However, after being treated with such disrespect in front of my daughter, I asked Suzanne for her name - which she provided and then loudly, in front of other guests, suggested that the policy regarding gift certificates had been in place for "oh, my, seven years." (with a tone that said, loser if you were a real customer, you'd know that). For what it's worth, the policy doesn't appear anywhere on the website - because common sense would suggest that people don't ordinarily buy gifts that end up costing the recipient $$ (and given the price of most treatments, tips at a standard 20% are pretty pricey). Second, being demeaning to a customer in front of her daughter over a situation that is clearly uncomfortable is just outrageous. I have another gift certificate, which I am going to return for cash, as is my right in Pennsylvania, and I will never return again - who in their right mind would pay to be treated with such disrespect. read more
