(Yes, this is a thing for me.) Husband had the Crispy Flautas w/chicken, and I went for the Trio Plate with a chicken quesadilla, a pork pupusa and a beef enchilada with the green salsa as recommended by Rosalinda. When the plate came out, I thought I was in heaven! My husband enjoyed his flautas, and I loved what I ordered! I wish I had taken a picture because it was beautiful, but I dove right in. Each item was exactly one person size, so I ate without overeating and didn't feel like I wasted anything. Four stars is simply for the rice and beans being "lackluster," (maybe offer an alternative, like a salad or cup of soup?), and once people started coming in - and they did - service got a bit stretched. This place used to be good a few years back. I stopped coming here because I accidentally left $80 on the table once. I called the place right away and whoever answered the phone told me that they had found the money. When I came back the manager told me that no one found anything. So I assumed he took it. After tonight I don't think I am ever coming back to this place. The service was horrible. I waited 35 mins for 2 steak tacos and beans. When it finally arrived the food was cold. (I requested these items first) I also ordered a cheese quesadilla with a side of beans, an order of pupusas and a chimichanga. When I asked if I could have the side of beans, our waitress said to me: what beans? I said the side of beans I ordered with the quesadilla and then she responded with: that's not the type of quesadilla I ordered. I said ok, can I please have a side of beans, then she replied the quesadilla comes with rice and beans already. Alright! Then the waitress asked me if I wanted something to drink I said a sweet tea please. My tea never arrived. After we received our meals, she never came to check on us; after we finished eating 15 mins passed when my husband decided to load the kids in the car. Its a place thats been there forever and we never went until recently. So sweets is a picky eater. Basically a meat and cheese girl. She always orders cheese enchiladas. The cheese the used in their recipe shut my girl down. It was more like a cottage cheese consistency. It was mentioned in the menu but she didn't read it. So she kinda picked at the edges but didn't eat much. The server said they made their own cheese. Maybe so but it didnt ring well with her. I think I had a mole chicken? Not sure. The decor was authentic looking. Pleasant and cozy. During the covid so their seating was widely spaced though there was almost no one in there. I'm actually super bummed I don't live as close to La Providencia as I used to because they have really re-vamped the place and taco Tuesdays are WONDERFUL! (Way back when I used to go, tacos were $2 on Tuesdays and got beat out by El Patron's $1 tacos on Tuesday). This past Tuesday my husband and I were craving tacos, but an accident on I-10 towards Metairie had us heading towards the West Bank to avoid traffic (and to go to El Patron), but when I passed La Providencia and their $1 tacos on their new sign we decided we had to check them out again! Are we glad we did!!! Happy hour is from 3-6 and they had $3 beers so my husband ordered his favorite (Pacifico), and their margaritas are 2 for the price of 1 for larges or a $3 small margarita. I was tempted by their wide array of flavors (they even have lavender!) but their sign tempted me with their *new* mermaid margarita... I believe it's blue raspberry, coconut, and kiwi, and it's this beautiful aqua color AND IT WAS RIMMED WITH EDIBLE HOT PINK GLITTER SUGAR. I was in margarita (and instagram boomerang) heaven! It was gorgeous AND delicious AND the glitter was so beautiful and fun! We ordered the queso fundido which is served in a hot skillet, and it's bubbling cheese with chorizo on top and served with warm tortillas... Hot, melt, bubbly cheese is my weakness!! We also went ham on the $1 tacos, I tried one of each (steak, barbacoa, al pastor, shredded chicken, and shrimp), and my husband got a bunch of barbacoa and steak. They also allow you to pick tortilla type (corn or flour) and toppings (cilantro & onion or lettuce & tomato). We both ordered corn tortillas and traditional cilantro and onions and we both loved the barbacoa, which was super juicy and flavorful! Steak and al pastor was amazing too! Service was excellent, we were sat immediately and while it was super busy it never got packed, so food came out quickly and our waitress was super helpful and friendly! Will definitely be back because the food, service, speed and lack of wait on a taco Tuesday, and not to mention cheap! (Under $45 for 12 tacos, queso, 2 pacificos and 2 large margaritas+tip). We tried this place on taco Tuesday for their $1 tacos cause our friends told us they loved it but we weren't very impressed with them. We had them come in flour tortillas and they were really lackluster and plain even with the lettuce, cheese, and pico. Next time we might try them on the corn tortillas to see if they're better. The shrimp tacos tasted like they were straight from the freezer and the steak didn't have much flavor to them. The barbacoa was decent and probably what we'd try on the corn tortillas if we come here again. It's not bad considering they're $1 but I guess I expected a little more quality in them. We did have their nachos bravos and I'm not sure what made them so delicious but they're up there in some of my top favorite nachos that I've had. Possibly my new Taco Tuesday spot! I was on the hunt for another $1 taco special on the Westbank and a friend told me about this place so I had to try it out. I came in on the tail end of the lunch rush (1ish) and everyone was starting to leave. Every table seemed to be filled so if you're coming around noon, be prepared to wait. They have all the usual proteins for $1 street tacos.... but wait.... there's more! They also include steak and shrimp to the selection! I eat my tacos with only 1 of the tortillas instead of the two layers they provide. When I separate the tortillas at other places, it breaks apart and all the goodies fall out. However, this place was the complete opposite. Everything was intact and ready for my devouring. All the tacos were great and I will be back. Side notes: The salsa they provide with the chips have a spicy kick to it. (And I love spicy) They don't sit parties more than 6 people on Tuesday. I'm always looking for Mexican restaurants that are authentic without being too hipster or too chain-y and I've found one with La Providencia! It's located on a busy highway on the Westbank and is pretty easy to get to from just about anywhere (even "across the river.") There's ample parking right out front and the restaurant itself can definitely accommodate a crowd. I visited on a Friday night and was shocked at how few people there were in the restaurant. Not sure if they have prime crowd times but it certainly wasn't Friday night. Everyone was friendly but, like an earlier reviewer mentioned, they seemed slightly understaffed. It didn't affect my service but had there been 3 or 4 more tables of diners I'm not sure the small staff could have handled it. Also, the waiter asked to see our IDs before giving us the drink menu - weird, but my sister and I look young. Who knows. After it was established that we weren't two teens attempting to illegally obtain margaritas, the waiter was very friendly, attentive without being overbearing and helpful when it came to menu selection. I ordered the La Mexicana (which the waiter described as "juicier fajitas"...spot on) and it was great! The food was fresh, perfectly seasoned and spicy. I also ordered a margarita, which was STRONG but tasty. Overall, La Providencia has solid service, great food/drinks and is reasonably priced. I passed by La Providencia every time I go see my seamster. I had to go see him today during lunch and I got few minutes on my hand so I made a pit stop at this restaurant. As a yelper, I do rely a lot on other yelpers' reviews. I found it so odd that this restaurant had solid 4 stars yet when I scrolled down to read few reviews, there were tons of negative ones. I wanted to check this place out myself and write my honest review so here I am. There were only two people in the restaurant when I walked in despite the fact that it was during peak lunch time (noon). A waiter took me to a table and brought out the complimentary chips + salsa right away. I read in one of the negative reviews that La Providencia salsa was warm and that she hated it. Well it is true that it was warm BUT for that reason, I loved it! Warm salsa usually means it is freshly made. If you make salsa at home, you know what I am talking about ;) When I went to Mexico in mid-2017, I found out one dish that I had never eaten before in my life - Mole. I am a big fan of Mexican cuisine so prior to that trip, I had made frequent visits to Mexican restaurants yet I had never seen or heard of Mole on the menu before. It is usually grilled chicken with dark, rich chocolaty sauce and I just love it. When I saw Mole on La Providencia lunch special menu, I knew what I wanted to order right away. Their mole comes with rice, beans and tortilla of your choice but I opted out of all the sides and asked for salad instead. The waiter (only one in the restaurant) was kind to let me customize the order that way. Mole was a bit on the saltier side for me but again, I was supposed to eat it with tortilla and such but did not do so, therefore, that is on me. Sauce was a bit more red than my expectation yet it was still delicious. Chocolaty, flavorful and rich yet not heavy at all. I overheard another table folks asking the waiter who the cook was because they also enjoyed their meals as much as I did. The waiter said "It is my mom." That comment made me like this joint even more. Louisiana folks are spoiled with great food everywhere that chain restaurants do no good for us. I was glad to see a tiny family business offering a great cuisine to the community. The lunch special is all below $9.99 without tax. When you review and judge your food, keep that price tag in mind. I absolutely and of course had better Mexican food elsewhere, no doubt. But for the price and the amazing service I got at La Providencia, I definitely see myself stopping by in the near future. I honestly think the lunch portion is reasonable as I tend to not like feeling stuffed at work. If you want to pay a little bit more and have a bomb Mexican cuisine, drive few more blocks and dine at El Patron. I paid my bill and as I was about to walk out, the cook came out of the kitchen and saw me. I personally told her that I enjoyed her mole and she said she was glad with that "Smile on mom's face". If you are looking for excellent Mexican food, or just good food, on the Wank, please try this place! We eat here enough that my Dad's shorthand for it is "La Prov". FOOD: It may take longer than you're used to for the entrees to come out than in the average high-turnover restaurant, but (I think that) the kitchen has one or maybe two in there cooking. It is a family-run place. So, enjoy extra time for conversation and apps at your table, because the food comes out at the same time and is so, so well done. We have never had a fail here. I order the standard mixed fajita dish and, even if the shrimp is sometimes slightly overdone, the chicken and steak strips are perfectly tender every time. My daughter had the nopales with pork and said it was delicious. The burritos and chimichangas are huge and stuffed with meat. The guacamole is real. The large seems a little small at first but it is all avocado, no filler (unlike other Mexican restaurants that offer huge portions that are suspiciously bright green with whatever other cost-saving avocado-ish ingredients, looking at you El Patron). The salsa is indeed warm, the chips are crispy. SERVICE: The service is attentive and polite. ATMOSPHERE: The tables all have room for both the diners and whatever various plates are involved. You will always be able to hear yourself talk. You can linger over your meal and chitchat without any pressure to leave. If there is a telenovela playing on one of the two TVs, follow along (even if no subtitles and with high school Spanish like me). read more

THE SUPERIOR TACO TUESDAY JOINT ON THE WANK. - they have an incredible selection of margaritas that are $3 (for a small) on Tuesdays. I saw some really interesting flavors that I would like to try such as Lychee, Guava, Watermelon, and Passionfruit. Ok so I came here for lunch because it was of course Taco Tuesday , and this place does NOT disappoint! The young man who greeted me at the door was also my server and he was so polite! He was also very prompt. I ordered two tacos de barbacoa (seasoned and grilled meat) and two tacos de pastor (pork). Talk about a flavor adventure! The salsa that was brought out to me was WARM! Yes I said it! WARM SALSA! And it was phenomenal! Not too spicy and the temperature was a nice change from the normal cold salsa and chips you get at other places. I also had the Tamarindo juice which was fresh, cold and delicious! Oh yeah and my food came to the table lickety-split! I gotta say the only thing that made me cranky about this experience was that I ate too fast and I was staring down my last bite of food too soon. But I was only deterred by such grief for a moment because I ordered three more to top of the afternoon! This is a pretty basic burrito packed with pork, rice, beans and cheese and a side of "fixins"- sour cream, guacamole, lettuce and tomato. The burrito was pretty good, but nothing earth shattering. This is the most legit Mexican I've had since moving back to Louisiana. Houston turned me into one tough critic, but this place surprised me with its authenticity. There were dishes of never heard of, as well as the usual suspects. I ordered the Nopales with pork, bc I wanted to try something different. Nopales is prickly pear cactus. Cooked down, it resembles the texture of a poblano. It has a slightly bitter taste, but it paired well with the pork and the deliciously spicy (normal people spicy, not my own standard) sauce. My grandmother seemed to enjoy her enchiladas as well, devouring the entire entree after commenting that she'd never finish that much food. The service was also great. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The salsa and queso weren't my fave, but both were enjoyable enough. This will now be our go to for Mexican on the West Bank. read more

Tonight was maybe my fourth night dining at La Providencia; it was by far the most crowded as it was taco Tuesday. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences there- good service and delicious food. However, tonight was a different story, and I'm not sure I'll go back. Our group of four sat down, and we were promptly served by our server, Yanet. Three of us ordered glasses of wine and the fourth ordered a rum and coke... we were all ready to unwind. A few minutes later, our waitress informed us that the manager (and I can really only use this term loosely- no evidence of managerial skills) would not allow any rum to be served because they needed it all for margaritas. I'm not sure who the manager is, and I didn't want to ask- as much as I didn't want to ask why they were making rum margaritas. The food is consistently good which is why I graciously gave it two stars, but the "manager" of this establishment could use some work... in mixology, experience, and customer service. This establishment has lost a few fans- I'll gladly take my business somewhere that knows how to serve a drink. read more

This place is pretty solid. I came here with a large group unexpectedly after another restaurant couldn't accommodate us. A few of the people in our group come here pretty regularly and they recommended it. It was empty when we showed up. I like the chips and salsa here. It's more of a runny salsa, which is what I prefer at Mexican restaurants. Not only is it good with the chips, but it's also good to pour all over your food. I went pretty simple and got a chicken quesadilla. A guy in our group said the grilled chicken here is good, and he was right. I mean, at the end of the day nothing stood out about the quesadilla, but it was tasty. Someone in our group also ordered queso dip, and when it got in front of me I couldn't stop eating it.
