Staying at a hotel near the airport overnight for a medical procedure Monday morning. We found this place on Yelp with 4 Stars and decided to try it since it was 500 yards away from the hotel. Bad mistake! Not sure what qualities of Mexican food the previously reviews were compared to, but this place was lacking in every way. We were greeted and seated right away. Typical Mexican Restaurant decor. 1st off, our chips were stale, sauce was tasteless. Our Server was polite and seemed helpful but there was a definite language barrier requiring several broken English translations. I ordered the Shrimp Cocktail with fresh Jalapeños and Ceviche. To my surprise, they left the tails on all the shrimp in the cocktail and I almost choked on the 1st bite. Now the Ceviche was very fishy, and really lacking in layers of flavor. Got the Margherita flight, Mexican corn, chciken fajitas, and sampler. Food was good except the chili relleno, which tasted like spinach with a processed cheese sauce. Ground beef seemed to be a lesser quality, as did the shredded cheese. Yet, the waitstaff was wonderful, and food came out quickly. The restaurant is fairly large and has a great ambiance. I did notice that the "suggested tip" at the bottom of the receipt was wrong. The "1" was missing. If someone purely went on the suggested tip listed on the receipt and didn't do the math, they would be short changing the waitress significantly. For example, on my $78 bill, the suggested tip was $2.48 , which isn't even 10%. I brought this to the attention of the restaurant, but please do the math if you come here. read more

I was staying at the DoubleTree across the street and decided to give Don Jose's a try and I'm really glad I did! It was a short wait for a table and service was great, chips and salsa were good and the top shelf margaritas were great. I ordered the cookout fajitas for 1 and they were delicious, the chicken and steak were served as a whole piece and they were very tender and moist, the shrimp a chorizo were also cooked and seasoned perfectly. The location is beautiful and it screams Mexican cuisine. You can smell the food when you enter the building. They sit you down very quickly and take your drink orders and return with chips and salsa. When we said we had not ordered it we were told it's their signature to give it to customers as a thank you for dinning thete. The waiter was always checking in and our drinks were always full. The chicken tortilla soup was hot and full of flavor. My granddaughter and I ate it all. The stuffed burrito, taco, and beans were delicious and it was so much we could not eat it all. My daughter had the steak and shrimp dish and was excited to taste so many wonderful flavors. It was by far the best Mexican food we have had in the city of Kenner. I've wanted to try Don Jose's forever, and today I got my chance. It was definitely worth the wait. We arrived, were greeted and seated right away. Our waiter arrived, took our drink orders and gave us time to look over our menus. Our drinks were delivered - my sangria was tasty and hit the spot, my daughter's Shirley Temple made her happy, and my husband's beer was ice cold. We placed our order and munched on our complimentary basket of chips and salsa. Good stuff. We had the ceviche - delicious and the portion was pretty large. My daughter and husband split the fajitas for 2 and I had one of the combo platters. I loved my food and was blown away by the value. My husband and daughter were happy with their fajitas. The service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. We never waited for drink refills and our table was cleared of dishes as we used them. Used to be a great place to eat. Had the worst plate of Mexican food today I've ever tasted. Could not eat it. Wouldn't even feed it to a dog. It was a lunch plate that had a beef burrito, shrimp chili releno, and a chicken quesadilla. I only took one bite of each item. The shredded chicken in the quesadilla tasted like chicken out the can, the shrimp in the stuffed pepper still had the shells on them, tasted old. I gave my boyfriend half of the quesadilla to let him try how bad it was..he agreed, took a couple bites and left it on his plate. When I told management that I could not eat my dish and wanted to send it back they argued with me and insisted the food was fresh and fine. They would not just simply take it off the bill. After arguing me for a few minutes she finally said she will have to charge me for the quesadilla since we ate some of it. I hope it was worth losing a regular customer for her terrible way she handled this. read more

Before I could say actually we can't see the tvs from here (my son wanted to watch the saints ) she ran off. Food was ready instantly (not fresh at all ) chicken in the quesadilla was greasy and cold. There was specks of something that didn't belong in my margarita. Table was dirty. Told waitress and she had to get two managers all for them to tell me they will talk to the bartender about the margarita and they been in business a long time. I left this review on Google Review but I'm leaving it here too... I ordered delivery through DoorDash after a really long day, and I accidentally put it through as pick up. I am a flight attendant on a layover with no vehicle, so there was no way for me to go and pick it up without paying for an Uber to do so. DoorDash basically told me there was nothing they could do. I called the restaurant and Alexis answered. She went above and beyond for me, calling DoorDash and telling them they needed to rectify the situation, and they did! She was absolutely amazing.
