I found La Puente Motors while browsing for my new Mercedes E55 AMG to replace my older model Mercedes. I found a gorgeous example on Craigslist, and called them up to confirm the car was still available. After a brief pleasant phone call with Amanda, I came by to see the car. I found a beautifully maintained E55 AMG in fantastic condition, inside and out. When I arrived, I met Johnny, the owner - and fellow AMG owner (his daily driver is a 2003 S55 AMG). He told me that he bought his particular example at the dealer auction - and I appreciated his honesty. Most used car dealers will try to claim it was a trade-in - but I've bought enough used cars in the past to know that 98% of what's on a lot of a small independent dealer usually comes from an auction. I took the car for a thorough test drive, finding it to be just as good mechanically speaking, as it looked - fabulous. Afterwards, we sat down and haggled a bit on pricing, and he was able to give me a small discount - the car was already priced to sell. In addition to the generally fantastic condition of the car, I found that he had installed new brakes and new tires on the car to prep it for sale. Kudos! He was able to also provide me with a thorough vehicle history, including details on prior service the car had received. This gave me extra confidence that the car was in excellent condition! I signed the paperwork on the spot, and drove home happy. The next day, I wanted to confirm that I had made the right choice of car, and took it to my mechanic for an inspection. Aside from a slightly worn suspension component (that was not a safety risk, and can be deferred for a long period of time), he gave the car a clean bill of health. I still needed to do some scheduled maintenance, but I expected that would be needed for the price - which was well below market value for a car of its age. I feel like I got a great deal, and I would heartily recommend anyone looking for a great used Mercedes at a great price to anyone. As Johnny owns an AMG himself as his personal car, he is particularly suited to spotting excellent Mercedes Benzes at the dealer auctions. The biggest pro about this place is that they tend to get rare/nice/hard to find cars. Lots of Benzes, BMWs, Caddies, stick shift sports cars... you name it. Nice cars for a good price. (That price comes at a... price... though.) To start... I had my own financing yet it still took almost two hours to complete the sale (without the test drive because I did that another day). During the paperwork processing they added an extra $500 to the cost of the car. They also tried to tell me that they had done SO much work with the car buuut... ... my first day with the car I noticed a smell so I took it to a mechanic. Apparently the car needs a new radiator, radiator hose, water pump, filter, spark plugs, fluid flush, a new shock, new fan belt, new this, that, and the other. +$2500 worth. (The smell was from the radiator leaking and the coolant burning off.) Yet they did several hundreds of dollars worth of work? Give me a break. And honestly, I expect that once all of these things are done there will end up being more too because the car makes a noise when it starts which I'm pretty sure isn't related to the above. So yeah. Lastly, they didn't even detail it... just kind of washed it and wiped it down. Poorly. The moral of the story is, if you're looking at a potential car here and you're REALLY serious about it, get it inspected by a mechanic. Yes, it can set you back a few hundred bucks... but that's less than a few thousand. Plus you should do that with ANY used car anyhow. read more

I'm giving them a ZERO I bought my highlander there about a year ago and have had nothing but problems. For 1 the check engine light went on the 2nd day I bought it. I took it in and they said is was because my gas car was not on correctly S THEY RESET IT, 2 weeks later it went on again! I took it in and they ran Diagnostics and they told me a hose was loose and THEY RESET IT!! Ran fine for 2 weeks and of course the light went on AGAIN!! Horrible and shady business. I had been in contact with the guy who answers the phone here over an Infiniti. I asked to make sure everything was clean on the car before i drove out for an hour and 30 minutes. So i show up and the whole front bumper is ripped off and damaged which was not stated or shown in the pictures as in photos it was fine. I asked why he lied about that and said that he just got the car when he had had the car for a week and he even said that on the phone. I would put zero stars but you need to put something. We went there about 2 month ago and there was a nice BMW for sale but I noticed that the valve cover gasket was leaking oil and the driver side visor was missing. So I called a friend and asked him what he thought about the gasget leaked. He warned me that LA puente motors is a super shady car dealer and what there probably going to do is say there going to change the gasget but what there really going to do is clean the engine and oil very good so when we go back the next day and start the car it will not smoke because the oil was cleaned up and there is no oil to burn. So I tell David to fix it and to get us a new sun visor for the drivers side of the car. He promised he would fix the gasget in 1 day and in 5 days he would have a brand new visor. We about 2 weeks ago the gasget starts to leak like crazy in the same spot and there is smoke all over the road as we are driving. $14,000 car smoking as you drive really and up to this day I never got my visor so it's going to cost about $800 for gasket job and new visor. I called Amanda over there asking if there going to be a professional business over there and make good on all this. I get no response and the act like I don't exist anymore. This place is horrible don't buy from LA puente motors you will mist likely get ripped off with the down payment or the performance of the car. read more

Went to this business to look at a car. They were constantly understaffed and even after agreeing to allow a mechanic inspect the car we were interested in it took 3 trips from Orange County to La Puente to get it done. After the inspection we found the car, 2008 Mazda Miata still for sale, needed $1000 in repairs, had no radio and the wheel locks were missing making it a challenge for the brake and rotor inspection. On the phone David offered to sell the car at $8500. When we arrived he raised the price to $8600 then added over $100 in fees to account for their time. Sadly we cannot rate them a zero. Thankfully we used a AAA local mechanic to check the car out. None of the issues were disclosed though we were told it was inspected before they put it on the lot for sale. Just like Nicole v., Michael K., Jesse N. here, this establishment is dishonest and engages in fraudulent behavior and it is best to stay away if you value your money. I saw a vehicle for sale on their website for $12,795. Amanda did the finance through State Farm: I was approved; told David I was buying the vehicle; David wrote a Deal Structure Summary, and sent it to me; asked David whether he wanted a deposit, told me not necessary; we agreed I would fly in to sign he papers and pick up the vehicle two days later. That evening, I saw the vehicle had been relisted for $15,495. When I finally got ahold David the next day, he told me that a check engine light had come on regarding a catalytic converter and that the vehicle was at a shop. I asked him to send me a picture of the check engine light and code as I told David I was coming down on Friday as we had made a deal. I asked who the owner was and he refused to tell me. My attorney found who the owner was and provided me with the individual to send a lawsuit to in Redondo Beach. I text Amanda and David to have Johnny call me. Johnny called me later and told me at first that they made a mistake on the listing price. When I told him David had sent me a Deal Structure with that price, he then told me that they sold the car, even though I had structured a deal on paper with them. I was lied to twice, and they appeared to engage in fraudulent behavior by apparently reselling the car at a higher price after we had structured a deal. I am filing a complaint with the BBB, DMV, and US Federal Trade Commission. Just like they did to Nicole, Michael and Jesse, they did to me. Don't be next - stay away. read more

Dear CGT, regarding La Puente Motors, I recently purchase a 2004 Corvette, after driving the car for 10 days, I received a call from John, I presume to be the owner of LM, and was told that I either had to bring the car back or get a co-signer on the loan. Now according to the contract 10 days was the allotted time allowed, for their request. The reason was that even though my monthly income was enough to qualify for the loan, my money is generated through government checks, and if I defaulted on the loan, that there was no way that the loan institution could get their money. That's fine, I guess I can understand that. However, after reviewing my contract to see if I had a legal leg to stand on I noticed that the numbers didn't add up right. First off, out of my own ignorance and because I hadn't had or even applied for a car loan in forty years, I agreed to a 21.99% interest rate.​ I didn't care for that. Here again out of my own ignorance, when signing the contract I did not go over the numbers well enough.. to simplify things for me I will round off the numbers when I write them. The price for the car, a 2004 torch red Corvette was $14300, my down payment was $3500 which should have brought the price of the car down to $10800. Now the interest should have been around $2500, bringing the total money financed to $13300. At 48 months the payments should have been around $277 a month, the contract has 48 payments at $450 a month. They had taken my down payment and added it to the price of the car, was this a mistake, I don't know, but it did change the dynamics of what the loan should have been. Was a 21.99% interest rate taking advantage of a customer who is not knowledgeable about loans. Shouldn't the salesman known ahead of time that I was going to need a co-signer before I took the car, that I really liked, home to drive for 10 days. I don't know. However, I do know that it was not a good experience to go through. Thank you for giving me a place to vent as I spent a lot of time to find that car, that year, with that color, and with a decent price. I found an Acura MDX on Craigslist from La Puente Motors. I inquired about the mileage since it was not listed in the ad. I explained that I would be driving from Lancaster, a 2 hour drive, and wanted to be sure that they had this car in stock and that the mileage was accurate. They assured me it was accurate and the car was in stock. Due to traffic, it took me 2 1/2 hours to get there. There was no parking anywhere and it took 15 minutes to get someone to talk to. They told me the car was getting a small tear in the upholstery fixed and would be back in 10 minutes. After almost an hour (conveniently when it was now dark) they take me to the car. However, this was not the car in the ad. Wrong color, 35,000 more miles, and far from the gem they described in the ad. I asked him where the car was I called about, and he said "this is the one we have." Needless to say I was furious! He didn't care....somehow he thought since I drove all this way I'd fall in love with the bucket of crap they showed me and still drive it home. HONESTY would have been appreciated, and now I will never trust La Puente Motors! BEWARE IF YOU CHOOSE TO DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY! Who knows what else they lied about! read more
