I was waiting to post my review until I drove my car a for a little over a month, to make sure everything was a-ok. Happy to say, all is good. I am a happy customer. I knew what I was looking for, I did my homework. The car I found at Preferred was clean, runs great, and I was able to buy with no hassle at all at a very fair price. I don't like taking chances on Craigslist or Auto Trader, but I had a strict budget, so a smaller dealer was the way to go for me. I knew I'd probably pay a little more, but I was OK with that. I bought a commuter vehicle, nothing fancy, that could run reliably for me and someday, for my new driver kiddoes. I must say, I almost bought a car from Phat's Auto up the street. Best used car dealer I came across during my long search for a clean Subaru WRX! This father and son ran dealership will probably be your last stop for a car if they have what your looking for. I initially spoke with Brian who was more than willing to tell me everything he knew about the car. In addition to pointing out the options and 'perks' of the car, he wasn't shy to point out the flaws. They really create an open and honest car buying atmosphere that creates a sense of trust and truly makes you feel like doing business with them. Please note that this dealership doesn't use any awkward pressure tactics or 'used dealer' non-sense schemes, just a solid stand-up place to buy a car. Continuing with the experience, Brian was upfront about their situation as a seller with the car and was willing to take a little extra off the top to help me get out the door within my price range. Easiest, quickest, car buying experience ever!! We live in Wisconsin and frequently visit SoCal. This past week, I was out for businesses and lined up several vehicles to look at through Craigslist and true to form, they all had their assortment of issues. (If you're wondering, northern vehicles start to show rust after a couple of years on salted roads, and then the body rusts through a few years after that. I like California cars.) Found PMC through a listing on AutoTrader and decided to stop in to take a look at the black Yukon. We spent longer test driving the vehicle than on the transaction. Super easy and Kevin is very reasonable and fair! The vehicle has been fantastic. I am still blown away by how clean the entire truck is, inside and out. Not professional after deal, deaf to concerns I had about an issue with the car. Numerous issues with car not mentioned and only coming to light of a day or so driving it. Get a mechanic, or thoroughly inspect yourself, drive it all over, pay attention to engine noises, because they will pretend they don't hear any issues. read more

Buyer beware! I had my eyes on a silver VW beetle of theirs. When I arrived, Kevin told me he'd be completely honest, and that the battery needed replacing. Then when we lowered the convertible top, it got stuck and won't rise again. Since I liked all else about the car, I gave Kevin time to fix it. It took weeks, and he never called me back. I was curious so I called him, only to get his son Brian on the phone, who said he'd call me as soon as the roof was fixed. He called me that afternoon. Weird coincidence. I went in the next day, thinking great, as soon as I have a mechanic check it out, I'll buy it. The mechanic told me the transmission was leaking!!! What a waste of time and money (the mechanic check up was $50)! I'm sure they knew about the transmission and just didn't tell me. Total used car seller cliches! Do your own research before buying anything from them. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. First off, I never write yelp reviews. I work in the service industry and I know how often people exaggerate stories for their online posts. I however strongly feel the need to post and warn buyers about this place so that someone else doesn't end up like us. My husband and I bought our first car together from Preferred Motors: a 2008 Mazda CX-7. We were so excited to get this car, everything seemed perfect. Only to have the check engine light come on days after our purchase. We have now owned this POS car for less than 4 months, and the engine light has come on 4 separate times for 4 separate issues. We sought out Kevin (the owner's help) to help us in which he did show concern and offered to take to his mechanic. We got it back with the light off and a $300 bill. He had never once mentioned us having to pay for this mechanic.. we thought hey, maybe he is doing us a favor since we have had nothing but problems. The light has since come on again, and he "thought" about helping us, but instead decided it wasn't his burden. His solution was to take it to his mechanic again to put yet another bandaid on this car until the light comes on again. We still owe thousands on a car that is unsafe to drive. I know that used cars can be a gamble, but for someone who pretends to be genuine, I sure would never trust this guy in my life. I submitted my credit app online late evening. Brian called me next morning, I was approved with a low interest rate loan which I was worried about due to past credit issues. Drove down and my very clean, low mileage, 2010 Jetta TDI was in the driveway waiting for me. Test drove it, came back and Kevin had the paperwork all ready for signatures. I bought a used 2002 Corolla. I didn't want a fancy car, just a simple A and B car. It was perfect. There was no pressure to buy and they didn't try to sell me another more expensive car (which is typical of car dealers). They gave me time to get the car inspected by my mechanic. Took it to the mechanic same day, said I was sold the car for a reasonable price. no issues with the transmission or anything. The only issue was the brake lights. If I could give zero stars I would! Buyer beware from these con artists. Sold me a Lemon which needed over 10k of work that needs to be done! I was dealing with Brian by phone, but when I was there dealt with his father. Told me everything was fine with the car no issues, brakes were good and so on.... it was a luxury vehicle with one key, asked Brian if I can get the other sent via mail which he did, but lets be honest, he knew damn well that wasn't the key for the vehicle. Those keys alone cost over 600$ to replace. On top of that I got the vehicle inspected, and that's where I found the brakes were no good, I had fuel leaking out from underneath which cost over 1600$ to fix. And the brakes! Wow his dad will lie to sell any vehicle to you, the brakes were horrible! The dealership I took the car to be inspected told me to return the vehicle asap, this is just one day after purchasing the car. But I couldn't because I've already driven over the 250 mile threshold. But I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt because I loved how exotic the car was (big mistake). Nothing but problem after problems with this car. Brian here's to you and your scum father for screwing me to get your pay check. And a big F U from the Bay Area. I pray that you guys get shutdown and go bankrupt and lose everything. To all you potential buyers, never in your life shop at an independent owned car dealership in your life, and if you must, please get whatever vehicle you're interested in inspected by a third party! I purchased a vehicle from Preferred Motor cars and I am not too happy. On my way home after making the purchase, a check engine light came on. I had a mechanic check the code and it turns out that I need to have the Catalytic converters replaced. I got a few quotes and it will cost me about $3500 to fix. I understand that I bought the vehicle "as is" so they are not responsible. When I called Preferred and told the older gentleman about it, he sounded surprised. I asked them if they could at least recommend a mechanic and they said no. Buyer beware.... buy from them at your own risk. When I test drove the vehicle, there was no light. They might just be resetting the computer to turn the check engine lights off temporarily. The light usually comes back on every 30 miles or so. Beware from buying from places like this that do no offer small warranties. I bought a lemon. read more

I really appreciated my interactions with Preferred Motor Cars, Kevin and Brian. They were fine with me pouring over the car pretty thoroughly for about an hour or so. I felt no pressure and Kevin answered my questions to my satisfaction. The next day I was allowed to take it to a nearby mechanic of my choice without any hassle, just a copy of my license.
